super helpfull
Clear instructions, no background noise or unnecessary music, you speak in full sentences, no vocal fry or uptalk….. Such basic things but many youtubers create videos that are horrid and so absurd with this stuff they are unhelpful. Thank you!
Thank you for the video. Straight to the point without goofy music or excessive drawn out instructions...perfect!
This is actually one of the few videos that does suggest to remove the lid/cover of the fabric triangular/funnel shape filter. Thumbs up! I recommend vacumm the inside of it and to use a brush to loose the dirt trapped inside. Never to run water inside the filter as that will push dirt further inside increasing the likelihood of clogged filter. If filter to be washed, flush water only the outside of the filter.
Thank you so much for sharing this; for me it was cleaning the back filter which fixed the pulsing problem. I've realised it's not pulsing - but gasping as it can't breathe properly!
It's a bit of a design flaw that you have to wedge a screwdriver into your x hundred pound Dyson, ruining the plastic, just to change that filter.
Great video, straight to the point, direct and logical. Tyvm
Absolutely brilliant. Repair, don’t replace! I rang Dyson helpline who advised a new motor…. Bit of DIY & a few ‘words’ & it’s fixed! Thank you
I took everything apart and I still get pulses, maybe my motor is gone?
I love dyson. Theu just sent me a replacement battery and head attachment. Very happy with their warranty and cs. Its rare to deal w a company that does roght by you. That is why I'll always have dyson.
Absolutely fabulous...i thiught I would be buying new vac,,but followed your troubleshooting instructions. And unscrewed the "mystery filter" and mine looked just like yours, washed it and let it dry..and voilla...perfect suction..you should get an oscar...fantastic..
Thank you so much. You've just saved me a few hundred pounds. Took the blue filter apart and it was FULL of dust. We used to regularly rinse the filter, but had no idea it came apart - wish they'd put that in the manual!
Fantastic video, straight to the point, no waffle. Thanks mate.
Thank you. I followed another cleaning tutorial (just washing in the sink without taking the long filter apart. When I put everything back together after drying out, I started getting the pulsing right away. When I took the filter apart a big wad of hair was wadded up in narrow part of the filter. Once it was removed, it ran like a champion! I thought I had managed to damage something during cleaning, but this did the trick. Thank you for taking the time to share it!
your welcome
Glad to watch this video in 2021. You saved me a replacement. I have replaced two batteries until I saw this video. The second battery was not necessarily dumped if I had seen this earlier. Thank you!
This video popped up on feed and is exactly what I needed to see. My Dyson is starting to pulse. Thank you for sharing!
Very comprehensive and straightforward mate, cheers. Dyson boasts of their technical innovation and prowess, maybe they should watch these videos and think again about how to prevent these problems or make it easier to deal with them. But of course they won't because people buy new ones.... sooner than they need to. Dyson's laughing at us...
Excellent video essential for critical maintenance of Dyson by the owners. Thanks for your efforts and dedication to film it. ❤
Thank you so much. I watched your video which helped me clean all the filters. Some I didn't know existed
Thank you for this! We just bought a new vacuum because our Dyson v6 was pulsing. But before I dumped they Dyson (which as been rubbish for ages) I found this video on CZcams. I have given the Dyson a reprieve and now we have two vacuums, both of which are working well.
Ll
Just completed this task.thanks for the info, saved me getting replacement Dyson.and I love fixing things as apposed to renew.Roger
You saved my vacuum. I found it far easier to actually take off the round part on back of motor first then bottom clip on handle pulled right out. Once cleaned dirty filter runs on high no problem now. Thanks for good video.
Finally found the video with ALL the answers I needed!
Thanks!
Thank you! I didn’t know about the second filter.
Thank you so much. I was looking for a video like this a few months ago. I bought new purple filters but I could not get the back off to see what was inside. I figured it was so difficult it wasn’t meant to be removed so it must be the battery. I was about to buy a new battery when I stumbled on your video, followed all your instructions and now it’s working perfectly again.

Help! I took the back filter off Dyson DC59, the middle one had perished into bits on removal. I can't seem to find another replacement online? Any ideas, thanks, Sharon
Thank you, my son gave me his dyson as it did not work. However, after watching your video it is now very clean and works fine, thank you for the free hoover!
Thanks for this. I've been fighting that end cap all day after cleaning everything else. The lego tool for stubborn bricks works a treat.
Good video. The stripped-down tubular/sock filter sometimes needs more than a clean under the tap. The dust really does get impacted at the bottom and needs worrying out. What a fine piece of design Dyson has made of the filter housing sitting over the controller board! You made flipping the cover look straightforward, but I ended up with a few nicks along the edges: a simple notch at the join under the screw would've done it, or make the end piece separate with a partial twist catch. If it is not a user-maintainable part, then that is deliberate built-in obsolescence because the dust does build up and you get the short circuit error light which renders the unit unusable. (Hopefully the new UK Right-To-Repair legislation will put paid to that nonsense.)
It has ended. The design flaw that you speaking of is no longer there. Dyson have totally changed the design of their cordless machines. The control board is now nowhere near the filters.
Japheth Stevens: I am a 73 yr old woman, who owns a Dyson stick vacuum. Watching the difficulty and force required to get into one of the filters is not impressive. Dyson should redesign that product or set up a team to whom we can periodically send our vacuum to be properly cleaned. But I guess, that could prolong the life of the appliance, which means less sales?
on the later v6 and onwards the rear filter was a twist off and replaceable filter.
Fix Dyson carpet vacuum with the worlds filthiest carpet as a background, some people just want to see the world burn.
Brilliant instructions, not shown by Dyson. Thank you
You'd think Dyson could've made it easier to remove the second filter...
Thanks for sharing this.
Thanks Sir very helpful
They want you to buy another million dollar vacuum 🙄
@@bigred4379 l.
It's not designed to be removed. It's there to catch carbon particles that are created from the motor spinning. If the pre-motor filter is looked after properly and bin isn't constantly filled past the max capacity then this won't happen.
@@walruspolish and good luck getting that MF back on without effing the trigger.... DON'T DO THIS!
Thank you for video. I have a similar problem with my Bissell Pet vacuum. It's great but I had to get creative on maintenance.
Thank you for taking time to do this ! Awesome 👏
Great Thanks! Fixed my Dyson, thanks to your help!!
Now here's a video that, until today, had escaped me. The commentary is succinct, straight to the point, and clearly spoken. My thanks. A little tip that I use is that when I am giving the dust container a clear-out, I use a small garden blower (a Makita cordless) to blow out the dust from the large filter. Thanks once more.
My Dyson V6 has been pulsating on max for a while so I could only use it on low. I almost threw it away and bought another brand, but I thought I would check You Tube and I am glad I did! Another video I watched first showed me how to clean the long blue center filter. But your video went even further and showed me how to get into the long blue filter as I was having huge chunks of debris coming out of it and couldn't figure out how to get inside the filter. Thank you for a very thorough video. I just washed the filter now I am going to take it apart and make sure all the debris is out of it. Your video is great.
so glad it helped you out.
Cheers - brilliant. Didn’t know about the 2nd filter. 🙏🙏🙏
Very helpful! Easy to listen to - no background noise. Thanks!
I bought a big barrel Dyson in 2005 and fell in love with it. It was a revelation after the regular one I had previously. 12 years down the track and it went kaput so I bought a V7. Worst mistake I ever made. It is dreadful. Doesn’t pick up anything that is larger than dust or possibly rice sized bits and pieces, gives 6 minutes of good suction before it throws in the towel so you have to use low suction mode to get the house done and it’s a bugger to clean properly. The battery died about 6 months ago and I have just bitten the bullet and bought a new one at $89. I am very grateful for your video but once this one dies permanently, I’m getting a different brand.
Thank you, i knew they had a second filter, now i know how to clean it.
Thank you for these invaluable videos! Saved my vacuum!!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH! Finally! An easy to follow and helpful video! Thanks again!!
Fantastic,, I never new that it had that secondary filter!
Mine has been pulsing for bloody ages!
Thank you for this video. It does take a certain kind of confidence to try to get the bigger filter off, though. I would be terrified of breaking something. It doesn't seem as though it is meant to come off, even though it clearly is.
It was never designed to be serviced in this manner. It was designed for manufacturing (life of the machine). That's why it's so difficult to take apart.
@@HODIUSDUDE Well, that certainly makes sense. In a strange way, it's almost comforting, and makes the whole enterprise feel less frustrating!
Exactly what i needed-to clean the back filter
Superb video, opened my eyes to how easy it is to fix problems with the Dyson. As others have said, a real money saver!
Thank you, this worked. For me it was my filter on top, I washed it and let it dry and no more pulsing!
Was about to go get a replacement!!! Top man
Excellent video, why don't Dyson customer service provide this instruction when you call them advising that your main overhead filter is clogged? Just saying!
BTW Thanks heaps.
Good video thanks for keeping it straightforward. Love this vacuum sometimes but other times it won’t even pick up sand on the lower setting and my eye starts to twitch 😂
😂🤣😂 I’m so glad someone else knows how I feel about this too!!! That analogy was hilarious!
Great video, super helpful. Didn't know there was a filter on the back.
Excellent 👍 I just wish I'd watched this before buying my new dyson - oh well at least I've got a back up now 🙄😂👏👏👏
Thank you so much for the video! Because of your guides and tips, I got my Dyson v8 to work!!! Thanks so much!!
But the V8 design is quite different to this. Especially the post motor filter.
Brilliant! I didn't realise you could dismantle the filter. Ours was completely blocked with months of gunk - I wouldn't work under those conditions either ;-)
Gee whiz, I threw my old Dyson out and got a new one as I had no idea how to do this!! I am sure I threw a perfectly good one! hahahaha.. ur a genius!
Thank you so much , brilliant ,love direct approach of the video .
Why don't Dyson tell you about the second filter? Oh yeh, so you go out and buy a new Dyson!
And they don’t sell spare ones, told me to upgrade, won’t ever buy another Dyson.
That’s a very old Dyson. They’re much easier to clean now and it is in the instructions
@@debbiethibault9846 They’re only better if you buy one with a HEPA filter
The new V8 have 2 filter now, it super easy to change the back one. You juste twist it.
@@andrewwhyte3979 Yeah but they're one of the best vacuums out there
Very much helped me out‼️ no one mentions the two rear filters ….. I’ve just subscribed and liked - you deserve it
Thank you do much for these little secret cleaning methods, now away to clean my dodgy Dyson ❤
Awesome tutorial-Thanks
Thank you for the video. Very useful even in 2021. Cheers
Thank you! Never knew about the other filters
Thanks for the location of the second filter. Amen to previous commenter on the nicks getting the back off - I mangled mine pretty good but cut the damage off with a utility knife and sanded it smooth. In the end my back filter was not very dirty confirming that a new battery will fix it. It is pulsing and does not seem to hold a charge. That's consistent with having owned it for many years but only giving it light use. Given the cost of new ones here in Australia, I'll consider a Mikita stick vac - which lacks the rotating head, or take a punt on one of the US$200 stick vacs on Ali Express.
this new video will help you out with a updated rear filter. czcams.com/video/e3H6-RDHuIo/video.html
Awesome video, when I turned on my Dyson it would blow dust in my face from the second filter. Your detailed vid showed me how to fix it, Many thanks!😊
best demonstration to clean Dyson V6 V7 v8
I have a V6. I knew about the tubular filter (though wow! what a struggle it is to extract for cleaning! - the other looks no better) but had no idea about the other one. Thanks. I'm off to wrestle with it now....
Thank you so much for the video - My V6 is working great now
Thanks for this ! The hot air was coming on smelly on my vaccum ( bought it used ) and I was trying to figure out how to get to the back filter
this new video will definitely help you out then.
czcams.com/video/e3H6-RDHuIo/video.html
I did not know about that filter in the middle just give it a good clean, so thank you for that information 👍👍👌👌
Great information. I would never remember how to put it back together without the video. Lol
Much better video
More complete
Shows additional filters to be cleaned and referenced the pulsing which was our failure mode
Thanks for this video as my dyson started to paulse but after doing what you showed on video all good now t.y
wow, Great video, I needed to learn how to do this!
Good on you mate, very useful tips for maintenance. cheers
Thank you for saving my vacuum!
Great easy to understand video but even the expert finds it difficult to take the machine apart - what a terrible, user-unfriendly design of vacuum!
i don’t think you need to take everything apart. owner’s manual only shows the basic clean.
Agree hate this dyson
@@kirstieb8025 YES! You DO!
Try it once and you’ll know why. You cannot believe what’s in there.
@@rosemarymay3914 I feel you Rosemary. I hate it daily .. call it “fucking Dyson” LOL!! The design is terrible.
I haven’t found a cordless that cleans as well however
I was very fussy washing and keeping it clean, they sent a new brush bar , but then it stuffed up again, they are a crap machine, so just bought the new Sharp , its a lot heavier but it's got a lot of great reviews
Great my Dyson has easy to reach pull off filters. Lots of work for you mate. Cheers!!
After every use, I give cleaner a really good dust out using leaf blower.
Still going like a champion after 6 years
After every use? Really?
Or by another brand with greater durability that doesn't need nursing

Great video, properly cleaning out the pre-filter stopped my v7 from pulsing. Thank you
Great to hear!
Thank you. I just moved to a new home and the previous owners left one on the wall that looked like it belong in the landfill. Now it's refurbished.
Glad it helped!
i installed a rear motor housing from a V6 with the HEPA filter. now i upgraded mine to replaceable rear filters. pretty cheap on Ali :)
Very helpful and informative video. Many thanks 😊
I’m just sitting here with my jaw dropped to the floor here’s why I have a Dyson v6 always pulsing bloody had enough of it then without doing any searching on you tube or watching any other content from this guy his video pops up on my feed and solves my problem, I’ll give it a go and let you know thank you so much.
All brilliant 👌 👍
I will open the motor bay and give few brushes and air compression
I found that after cleaning the first filter it wasn't working still, then I found that there was a bit of stuff stuck where the motor unit attaches to the stick/wand part. It wasn't tightly packed in but it wasn't budging, once I removed it it worked like new again. I'm glad i didn't mess around with the second harder filter.
It's not a filter as such and isn't designed to be removed.
@@walruspolish it definitely didn't look like it should be messed with, and I'm glad I didn't.
on the later v6 they fitted a replaceable hepa filter as released it gets clogged up. now the v6 is getting on the Early ones with the foam filter shown are getting very clogged up. I'm going to do a video showing how to upgrade to the hepa filter next week.
So incredibly helpful!!! 👍👍👍
Thank you for this video, it was really helpful! We have a V7 and even after the filter had been washed it was still pulsing so I said to hubby there's bound to be something on CZcams and I found your video so sat down with the blue filter and managed fairly easily to prise the top off now that I knew what to do. There wasn't a lot of gunk in the bottom to be honest but I took out what there was and replaced the top in seconds. I then decided to have a go at the 2nd filter and found the V7 is slightly different from the one you show (the V6?). The V7 does not have a joint that goes down the handle. the cap is purely on the round end so it was fairly easy to prise off with a flat screwdriver. On inspection there is only one quite thick round sponge filter inside, not the 2 shown, and in my case it was quite clean, so I easily replaced the cap and we were good to go. Btw I'm a 68 year old retired lady so if I can do it anyone can, you just need a bit of firmness and stick with it and it will all come good - beats having to go to the expense of buying a new filter or even abandoning the machine altogether! Thanks again once more for your very helpful video. :-)
I'm a 68 yr old retired woman, as well. Before the vacuum, I'd repaired things like my dryer, and my car window that wouldn't roll up. Never hurts to try and I really enjoy learning new things (retired science teacher)!🤔
Hi, another 68 year old female retiree here! I’ve dismantled and “fixed” my dyson and my daughters many times thanks to CZcams. I also replaced a part on my dishwasher following a CZcams video. My methodical enquiring mind enjoys the challenge. When i think of what I could have achieved and the money I could have saved if I’d had the support of these wonderful informative CZcams videos over the last few decades!! Go on, have a go.
Thanks short and to the point.
Let's just start out by saying I was wearing a white robe when I took apart my v6, lol. I've had my v6 many years and I do clean it every so often, but I never took the back filter off covering the circuit board. It was pristine, nothing like the dirt yours had. I use it almost daily too...strange. Good video, I enjoyed it!
Thank you for the instructions.
The second filters on the newer models are much easier to remove. They simply twist off.
Excellent to give this knowledge
great presentation thanks for sharing your knowledge
hi thanks so much for the info. on the 2nd filter the long one round the edge i cleaned but the small middle spongy one fell to be all sticky so can not find a replacement for that will this matter ? no pulsing anymore new 1st filter added .
Looks how hard Dyson made it to clean. Jeez. They’re the Apple of the Vacuum world
the rear filter wasn't designed to be a serviceable filter. on later models it's a serviceable filter.
this is why i prefer a bagged vacuum (miele) over dyson. even though you still have to do a comprehensive clean up of the miele, it's probably not going to be as often due to how well filtered bagged system like miele works. im helping an older person cleanup their dyson as i typed this.
Thanks, fixed my problem!
Great video! Thanks.
Thanks, very helpful 👍
Great tips mate
Thanks for that. I had no idea before
Thanks for the video. I did not know about the filter in the motor head. Have a nice day.
check out my latest video to get your dyson working like it did the day you purchased it.
Man that is great video, I just had a v7 i finding in dumpsters the only part missing was the charger in expecting by mail had some charge In the battery so work, uts was a piece of plastic blocking the motor head fix it Now I can give a good maintenance too it. Thanks
