- I originally was going to put this up a month ago when everyone thought Mark Gatha died after Lucas Gilbertson tweeted he'd passed away on twitter before finding out Lucas is actually just slightly dumb. Decided I didn't want to let this go to waste.

For those who aren't aware. G Gundam was re-released in HD on blu-ray back in 2018 with touched-up animation and much better colors while leaving the dub completely intact. shame the same couldn't be said for the Hobbit VHS but this was easily one of the best gundam series ever

The “hot-blooded hero” archetype in Japanese anime is somewhat hard to replicate for English-speaking audiences without appearing cringy (apart from Kyle Hebert as Kamina), but Mark Gatha managed to evoke that vibe brilliantly in his performance.
Seriously. Sucks he didn't make it into a longterm career because his performance was excellent.
His Mega Man X isn't too bad either...unfortunately to this very day he's still the best X...it sucks that like Tony "Eddy" Sampson, Gatha chose to quit voice acting and try something else.

Ehhh, listening to this over 15 years later, it's definitely pretty cringy at times. But Mark really did do a great job saying the lines.
G Gundam is the kinda show that never took itself seriously english or Japanese. But if it still gives you goosebumps it did something right

Mark Gatha managed to take the cheesiest and campiest dialogue in all of the Gundam series and deliver it in a way that was hype and in the same vein as the original Japanese without coming off as cringy. That takes talent.

I always choke up whenever Domon activates his Shining Finger/Sword and has his "This hand of mine glows with an awesome power!" line. I miss this show so much. It's so good!

Mark Gatha really bringed emotion to his character portrayals. The Erupting Burning Finger sequence is my favorite.
Look up TFS Trunks with his sword. They use the same music and mostly close line.
I'm happy the voice actor became a doctor, but goddamn, do I miss that amazing voice!

I’d love to have an anime where Mark Agatha and Johnny Yong Bosch are fighting and doing their hot blooded hero voices and the raw manliness melts the tv.

This MC’s VA is one of the few able to keep the emotional delivery that the japanese ones all seem to nail, without making the english lines sound super campy, cringey, or childish. Its such a subtle difference, you can hear it in the scene with the girl towards the end of the video. Something about his delivery is just so incredibly captivating to me. Ive never watched the show, but each scene on youtube makes me want to go lift weights or fight someone on the street. I wish we had more like him in the industry.

Believe it or not he only did voice work to pay for medical school. Dr. Gatha really gave it his all in a way few English VOs can. He loves the work he did too, I remember him saying he'd like to redo lines for the first season if it ever gets remastered.

@@7F0X7 well, I must be a bit older than you. I like both, don't get me wrong. Why else would I be here lol. Gundam wing was the first big gundam hit and nothing afterwards caught the same attention. Wing was definitely a first. You could walk into most ordinary stores and actually buy imported Japanese wing model kits. I do recall getting at least a couple g gundam kits before they stopped selling them.
Edit: also, I literally just bough both deathsycthe and wing gundam figures at Walmart just a day ago... no g gundam in sight. Just saying.

A lot of people remember the HANDS OF MINE lines and such but he even nailed the awkward but truthful love confession Domon gave.
Now that shows a true understanding of the character.
I love the music that accompanies the entire dialogue. Brings chills down my spine. Every time that guy talks I get a huge smile on my face and get super hyped. He is such a good voice actor.

Toonami showcased this gundam series before any other REMBER WHO PAVED THE FUCKING WAY. Yes it has its bumps but what do you expect when you give it half the care your meant to. Dude this mofo has the MOST intense voice out of any anime from my childhood. I love it.
I hope Mark looks back fondly on his work in the VA industry. I'm still re-watching G Gundam and playing MMX8 and MMXCM, twenty years later, and I still love and adore the earnestness of his performances in those roles (obligatory "REDIPS!" reference).
He's doing bigger and better things with his life than entertaining us plebeians; he's actually healing and bringing comfort to people in a meaningful way, and bless him for achieving his full potential in that area. So, I can live with him walking away from the industry. Still, there are few who were/are able to bring the same honest intensity to their VA performances that he does almost effortlessly.
Our time together was short, Mark, but we appreciate what you gave us; red-hot intensity and a "burning" desire to do your best. Keep saving and improving lives.

It's actually Tenkyoken. It's a combination move with his Sekiha Tenkyoken, the Sekiha Love Love Tenkyoken. It's basically a straight translation of the japanese move name word for word.

Actually, fun fact, I found this series through Rockman X8, and Maverick Hunter X. I saw everyone making references to G Gundam in the comment sections bc of X's VA, and talking about the very obvious ref to it in the X OVA... I eventually looked into it, and in turn I fell in love very quickly.
Mark Gatha was such an amazing voice actor, and I wish he was still going at it. He'd be one of the big name ones for sure.

@@SkylineGTr1627 all Gundam shows I’ve watched are very good but I wouldn’t say G Gundam was childish, the very concept of giant machines fighting each other isn’t very realistic since they’re often to big and heavy to function in reality, this show knows that and plays it extremely well creating a over the top narrative that rarely slows down and always entertains.

This show is so ridiculous looking back at it now, but I still love it. When the actual King of Hearts appears in the final attack I laughed because he I was expecting him to charge with a sword or something, not just stand menacingly. I kind of want to see an edit of the Burger King in that spot instead. You know, that creepy one who appeared out of nowhere and would present people with food.

G Gundam was a really refreshing section of the gundam series, with enough camp and over-the-top antics mixed in with its usual messaging. Like, up until this point most entries in the Gundam series were the same "space/earth colonies warring" with themes of why war is awful and such. G Gundam does the same though its more environmentally conscious kinda thing, if you take the Master's words to heart.
Anyway that said, stepping back and realizing these are big crazy armor machines and saying "yeah you know what, that is kinda crazy, isn't it?" and just doing what you want with design lets it be wholly free and unique.
Also Domon's english VA sounds like he's giving it everything and it's amazing

Tried playing dynasty warriors Gundam, couldn't main the Burning Gundam because Mark Gatha left.. Domon, X and Irvine will never be the same..

It's pretty funny just how similar megaman x is to g gundam. X and Sigma are basically Domon and Master Asia right down to the voices in the final days of the series and zero is x's kyoji just without the betrayal (well, I guess unless you count x5 or the zero series in that). God I miss Mark's voice so much, it's a real shame he doesn't do VA work anymore.

For a 90s dub this is a list voice acting. For 2020 this is ok. If they every decide to do a reboot/ update I hope he comes back to voice domon. He really brings a lot to the character.
