    I trust your opinion Max. I ordered one last week after watching the video for the first time. It was supposed to be delivered Friday, but haven’t seen it yet. These young delivery guys are afraid of a km of gravel road.

    Cheers from AZ. My buddy's a welder from west oz. Like the no bs approach. Thanks for hooking it up on mig. That's what I was curious about. Not bad on the 3mm. In the states .125 sounds like it'd be the cutoff for single pass, which is perfect.

    Nice review, these small welders are super handy to carry around for random jobs, iv been very happy with all the ones iv tested. And don’t worry about posting the occasional review video, one of the perks of doing what we do is getting sent some cool stuff sometimes and when it’s a decent product it’s nice to let people know about it

    It's getting to the point that little welders are like angle grinders. Rather than swap consumables, just leave one set up with each of your commonly used ones, and grab whichever you need at the time. I know one welder (guy, not machine), that has 8 angle grinders on a rack and they've paid for themselves through saved time pretty quick.

    I'm about to buy a mig just for .023" wire. I'm tired of switching back and forth with .035". It's not available yet here in Canada. I have tried some new welders and they are impressive compared to the old school stuff. Thanks Max that was a great review. I'm sold. They should have made it available before sending one to you.

    Good review Max, You sternly gave it a good flogging and it came through unscathed. An upgrade to the stinger is probably in order. Looks like a nice little machine 👍

    G'day Max. Quite a good review, arc & mig welds looked reasonably good & weld flowed quite nicely. I didn't see any fluctuations in the amps or voltage, so job well done 🎉😊

      No variations is a problem. The should be variations. If it’s not showing them, then it’s not showing output, but rather just showing the settings.

    Handy light weight machine that appears to punch above its duty cycle pretty well.
    I wonder if it could swap out the liner and run alloy welding wire?
    I have a longer term plan to one day maybe weld up another aluminium hull perhaps (20 years since the last one).
    I think this would maybe be too light duty for welding 4 &5 mill alloy plate tho.
    Probably just change my old 3 phase CIG machine with traveller over to a push pull handpiece and liner probably.

    Small quibble: in stick & mig welding, the amps and volts display shows only the set point, and does not flip to showing the actual amps and volts delivered during welding like other up to date welders do. This won't matter a dot for experienced users, but the actual voltage delivered can tell beginner operators if they are holding a stick electrode at the correct distance or not.

      You would not be able to see it anyway . The majority of welding machines that i have used , even 500 amp machines often have just number settings not amps .

      @@swanvalleymachineshop : I have done oxy-acetylene welding for about 50 years (yep - I'm well past Centrelink pension age and probably slow to learn new things, but still working), because I work mostly on light gauge stuff for which oxy-acet is better adapted than traditional arc welders eg the old CIG Transarcs. But 2 years ago I bought an up to date Transmig 185 Ultra stick/MIG/TIG welder, which can handle 0.6 mm MIG wire and has been fabulous for that light gauge work, enabling me to do good quality welds and not spend a lot on acetylene 7 oxygen preheating to avoid the distortion you get with oxy-acet.
      It has a display that holds the measured volts and amps for about 10 seconds after welding stops, so you can read it. I also had someone call out the volts (while stick welding) or amps (while MIG welding) and that has enabled me to master the technique and do good welds within an hour or so.
      Once you have learnt the technique, you don't need it as I said, and of course while actually welding, you can't see it.

      @@swanvalleymachineshop You seem to base your thoughts on obsolete equipment.
      Number settings on old transformer-type welders was sensible as the regulation of transformer welders was pretty uncertain.
      But with the electronic invertors used in modern welders, the regulation can be and is precise, so displaying amps and volts setting is now sensible, and thus is now common. And you can switch from different welder to different welder, knowing that the same amps and volts will do the same job. With the old transformer welders, you had to remember that each one worked best with a somewhat different setting. Easier to remember a switch position.

      I was taught to do the same when stick welding thick metal to thinner, say 1 inch to half inch using 7018 electrodes.
      The heat stays in the metal more than the metal rod and helps with penetration (so I was told, that was 20 years ago though 😂)

    Hi Max, interested to know the approximate ambient temperature in your workshop when you did the test?
    I stay away from fluxcore, messy and like you the fumes can be hazardous, watching Oliver and Kurtis they always wear there fan forced helmets.

    I just received this welder. You can press the dial to adjust either wire speed or voltage i'm not sure which one it does haven't figured it out yet lol

    Item description on Amazon says tig torch is included, but it's not. Kinda false advertising

    Good video max but I think your duty cycle calculation is wrong. If its 60% then you wait for it to cutout while welding and the cooling time will be 40% of the time spent welding.

    Does it short circuit detect? (makes it easier for beginners) I suspect it doesn't, as a 145 amp machine should not need a 15 amp plug.
    You said it is very easy to start an arc in stick welding - this indicates it has the common trick of raising the voltage until it detects substantial current flow. If so, does it have the safety voltage reduction on idle, as required by international safety rules but not in the USA?
    Did you test on a fairly cool day? The duty cycle it can cope with may be dependent on ambient temperature.

      Ambient workshop temp was around 25 to 30 deg C , about 35 outside .

      @@swanvalleymachineshop Thought so. If you were to use it outdoors on a Swan Valley hot day, say 40 C, you might find it shuts down a bit sooner. These sorts of things, ancillary to essential function, are generally subject to manufacturing tolerances too. Just because one unit significantly exceeds the spec, it doesn't necessarily mean another unit will.

    Almost everyone puts the switch on the rear. My ESABs do it as well. This looks like a MiG version of the Harbor Freight 125 amp flux core welder sold here. I find the duty cycle hard to believe. Maybe it will do that the first time, or so. Otherwise there’s no real circuit safety. Despite any overheat switch, these small machines just won’t last. I’m just suspicious as to how a small cheap machine can do that. There’s no magic to this. Be aware that if you want to buy other leads, the standard 50 size connector doesn’t fit. This is the same one cheap, lower power machines use, so you need a 25 size connector. Another thing is that I don’t trust that display. There is no way a welder won’t have variation when welding. Just not possible. If the display is static, it’s displaying the settings, not the power being used. With these caveats, it seems like a nice little machine.

      In my, admittedly limitted, experience, the main dissadvantage of these cheap welders for hobby and small-shop welders is not that they won't last. Its that they are harder to learn on and have less features. For experienced welders, they work just fine.
      For example, my neighbor bought a cheap stick/mig welder, because it was in fact cheap. He had never done arc welding before and soon found out it is not as easy as it looks. After trying for several hours over several days, he gave up.
      I then brought a stick/mig/tig welder from a major well known European brand. Of course it cost a lot more. I had never done arc welding for >45 years. I astounded my neigbbor, because although my initial welds were crap, within an hour I was doing pretty good welds. I then offered to teach my neighbor - he was very reluctant, saying he had bought a dud. But after learning on mine, I could do nearly perfect welds on his too.

      I know ! It was a sort of pre release version . As far as i know , i think they supply a tig torch now but don't quote me ! I only use it for stick , so it's no drama . 👍

    Needing a 15 amp socket is a limitation for many people, and surprising for a welder rated at only 145 amps. 185 amp welders that need only a 10 amp outlet are now common, due to advances in inverter design. For most hobby welders, the cost of getting a 15 amp socket installed will completely swamp out any cost saving in this machine.
    Being restricted to only 0.8 mm wire in MIG welding is a notable limitation - many hobby & small shop welders use MIG on light gauge steel, 1.6 mm or less, for which 0.6 mm wire is best.
