This is late game area, it's optional, you can go there after farum azula and have fully upgraded weapons, so I don't get what's the problem. If you don't skip content, getting to 120+ is really easy, you don't need to go out of your way and farm runes to achieve that level, just play through the game. If you went there before doing farum azula, well that's on you, this area is scaled for the very late. And I can get behind calling summons, magic and bleed a cheese, but powerstancing 2 glaives and doing jumping attacks? Yes, he was dealing a lot of dmg, but that's just a decent build, not a cheese.

Same, its because the fight is poorly balanced and mainly revolves around one move which is RNG. Hopefully From Software will work on that in the future. They did nerf Radahn but tbh I never thought Radahn even needed a nerf. They need to focus on the important bosses that need balancing such as Malenia.
@@EldenLord. the fight is not poorly balanced. I'd say they need to make it easier to fully dodge her flurry when you're close range, but everything else is fair. The problem is when you screw up it's incredibly punishing because not only do you take damage but she also heals some back. The flurry move is just a side reason why the fight is hard.
@@EldenLord. in case you're unaware, you *can* use a greatshield to block the first two flurries and dodge the rest when you're in close range, but yeah that's not a great answer because she heals back even when she deals no damage. Honestly some tweak like her getting no healing from dealing no damage could be enough.

@@LtSMASH324 I honestly would much prefer it if her healing works like her Great Rune does. Meaning they could give her a small window where she would be able to heal back a little bit after the player deals damage to her. If she manages to hit you that is.
Having beaten Malenia myself, and watching others, I think I know why she's so tough: She's a goddamn Sekiro boss in a non-Sekiro game.

@@Doofens there are loads of attacks in sekiro with crazy tracking so you have to block in sekiro but there’s no stamina bar so you could more or less just block all of her attacks except this is elden ring where you have limited stam and block

Every second of pain is worth it for that Katana, fully upgraded it just cuts through everything and the effect where you fly through the air is so cool
Yeeee it satisfying as hell especially when the enemy is grouped, but the dumb part is that you have like 0 damn poise when you're in the air. Mf could sneeze on me from a far and I would still get flinch and cancel the skill
truth be told, her first phase is scarier than the second, as long as you can avoid her bloom (didnt know you could just run forward), youre mostly in the clear.

Her damage is insane. I had to put Radahn's armor so I can tank her hits more. Plus it's more poetic because of their lore together.
Ironically I beat her naked with only my weapons equipped. I find that light roll is so much better than having heavy armor to tank. Her lifesteal makes dodging everything much preferable to tanking.
@@Rayden440 I`m playing Elden Ring in 2023 and didn`t they nerfed this so it doesn`t matter anymore fighting naked or with your armor, it`s all the same in case of agility and dodging, at least that`s my information so far and my impression too.
As a player who likes the melee playstyle in Elden Ring I like General Radhan`s Armor set and the Veteran`s Armor set, ok, I have to keep an eye on a higher Endurance value to be in "Medium Load" to be agile in combat and to avoid "fat rolls" when dodging, but that`s not a real problem and it works fine for me even with a colossal weapon like my beloved "Heavy Greatsword (+25)" plus "Lion`s Claw".
@@MrJueKa Last time I played, every roll has the same time. So you’re invulnerable for the same length of time . The only difference is the recovery time… you can do a follow up action (another roll, attack, drink) much faster on light compared to heavy and you roll much further on light

Something weird for me is that I died like 4 or 5 times to her flying clone attack and only 2 times to the waterfowl dance. I eventually found out I could just spam roll to dodge the clone attack though which is what let me beat phase 2.
He didn't get waterfowl dance in the second phase. That was so lucky.
Agreed and he is using 2 +10 somber stone weapons. I did this fight with claws only, no greater rune, AFTER they buffed her, this was done before the major buff to her aggressiveness. I wanna see him do it claws only under level 75.
Not sure if they fix it but I remember the host backstab malenia right at the moment second phase happen and instantly killed her in second phase. It was beautiful

Eh, everyone is mostly overleveled with a +10 or +25 weapon vs her so that's normal. He traded more damage for less defense.

I beat her with Rusted Anchor + Spear Talisman. Due to counter damage, you can sometimes out-trade her depending on what she does. With Endure weapon art to be able to actually trade with her anime combo if you can't get away fast enough and then heal up later. You still lose the trade but she doesn't heal a third of her health bar like she usually would.
Phase 1 is doable with this but Phase 2 becomes a horror as you don't have the flasks and she becomes more aggressive, and its harder to tell what shes doing. Just happened to play out of my mind in Phase 2 in one attempt - this is the hardest boss of the Soulsborne series. I also tried parrying and gave up after i saw iot took 3 consecutive parries to get a riposte.
the parry thing is pretty stupid considering that if you fail, you either die or she gets a significant chunk of health back. The risk completely outweighs the reward at that point, so why even make her parry-able in the first place?

Super lucky she never did the 78hit combo in the second phase. This was the hardest fight for me, my version of Asmon’s deathbird was the 8 legged guy that spits poison and never lets you heal in a tinyass room under the ruins next to Iji the giant blacksmith in the northwest of Liurnia just south of Carian Manor. It’s a BRUTAL fight if you’re doing melee. I know they are regular enemies, but for my level and weapons, it was a nightmare. Also no summons allowed.
Those things are called Revenants and if you cast heal on them(12 Faith at least) you do massive damage and pin them to the Ground.
Works also on their less annoying buddys

I struggled with this chick a bit, not as much as the endgame boss though. I came back to her in NG+3, after running the basic big hitting mage build for my first 3 journeys, with a fairly maxed out rivers of blood build instead. I absolutely melted her. I mean it wasn't even close. I did use my Mimic +10 but I don't think I even needed it. I think she has weakness to frost and blood.
yeah, I definitly struggled with radagon/elden beast a lot more than with malenia. Her attacks other than waterfowl are super easy to dodge, (as opposed to radagon's attacks which to this day I still don't really know how to counter/dodge.)
the best part about this fight is what asmongold is demonstrating is that he actually understands his build (especially his choice of weapons here) and what it is capable of and not so capable of! He knows that there is just damage that he is going have to take here and there, but his output is so massive that malenia's healing becomes a non-issue. Going for jump attacks for the potential poise damage on top of the heavy damage that jump attacks provide is the quickest way for him to do big damage without taking too many risks.
tl;dr: Asmongold demonstrated pretty solid understanding of the kind of gameplay and utility his build provides! NICE JOB! :)

@@griffin1182 It's all the one mechanic she does with the relentless attacking that got Asmon 80% of those 74 deaths. He actually did fantastic with patience and drive to defeat her. It was fun to watch!

@@8TDK yes. I was doing the same and couldnt beat her, but I was way more aggresive and actually rolling to her not just running away. Then switched to rivers of blood build and use mimic tier and 2 shot the boss

Mage users like me spam ice spells while saving the infinite mp flask that lasts for a few secs to kill her in the first few seconds of her second phase. Every class has a cheese that's worth using for saving your sanity. I also use mimics as a dmg sponge.

Fastest run I've seen lasted all of 15 seconds. Dude 1 shots 1st faze and 1 shots 2nd faze as Melania is dropping to the ground at the start of that faze

Nice grats on clearing her no summons or magic cheese.
Though being a bit overleveled and correct use of gear to buff jump attack spicy 1700+ hits. I did do this fight as a challenge no summons, no magic RL 100 9+(23) (for the pvp aspect) uchi and Metorite. It was a struggle but also a bunch of fun as she could just breath on me and I'd die. Took me about 10h to beat but would do it again against another boss too tbh. Oh also try up timing her. You can cancel her attacks with your own and roll those you can't. Makes it intense ^^
If Malenia didn't heal on every hit the damage she did to you, she wouldn't be a bad boss.

I don't mind the heal mechanic, what bothers me is that she can also heal off of hitting a 100% physical damage reduction shield which makes blocking useless.
The only change I would make to her is healing on block. This shit is so dumb

I've seen a lot of interesting builds that I, other streamers, friends, etc. have used in Elden Ring, but he is the only one i've seen that runs back to jump power attack that aggressively over and over. It gets the job done, but man that seems like a boring playstyle over hours and hours of gameplay. It even got him in trouble with some bosses like that birb. To each their own I suppose, but Congratz on the well earned victory!
Asmon said it he couldn't roll well to dodge that attack, and he wasn't a fan of using shield, so running away from it became his best method to deal with it.
I personally really loved this boss fight, since most of the fights before Malenia were way too easy, except for Mog. Tho Mog was much more annoying and somehow harder for me, maybe because of the tilt i got fighting him.
I just got through both bosses today. Mohg was 2nd try, 1st try died not knowing what the red rings around me did 🤣 But found it easy once I realised I could heal through his blood-loss ring things.
However Malenia took me like 100 tries but I honestly love the fight. Currently doing the 2 headed dragon, Its a super epic fight as well!
@@Stewart.george I think Mogh was aslo a problem because of FPS loss i got in fight with him. It was not stable, so finding out when to dodge was kinda hard. Two-headed dragon was very cool, i was kinda upset by all dragons sharing same moveset, so this fight was very pleaseful.
Now that people have found out how to dodge that move at close range, this fight is S-tier

i had a much easier time with her and ran through her first faze in ab 20 seconds flat and the second faze in probably two minutes im a level 157 with maxed out rivers and uchigatana with seppeku so the bleed is insane im guessing this is why my encounter with her was much easier then this?
Why not use rivers instead of sepukku

Despide of some of his....less likable traits, one thing I really respect about Asmon is that he understands the concept of facing the challenge and doesn't just want to see the game end credits. Sticking until the end to the self-imposed rule of no summons of any kind, especially for this tiresome fight, is worthy of respect.
Most people don't understand this and they react like they are attacked when you tell them that it's a better experience to not use ash summons and one-shot bosses.

i agree that it is a better experience but most people dont say "better experience". they usually say something like "yea but you used summons.." or "did you really beat the game if you used summons?" in a very belittling way. so thats why they take offense cause they're being talked down on.
A better experience is w/e they enjoy and honestly asmon looks extremely op compared to every person I've seen fight this boss so far from the amount of damage he does and hp he has.

His playthrough of DS:Remastered is the most cringe yet entertaining thing ever. When he fought o&s the first time he did it for about 7-8 hours non stop raging the entire time because he refused to learn and use the most basic mechanics. He still makes the exact same mistakes and uses the exact same tactic, roll backwards and spam heavy attacks. It's hard to watch sometimess but hilarious when he gets pissed off.

The thing I don’t like about this fight is the health regen mechanic. It just tilts you in a way no other boss could. Also it feels like you have to look up how to beat this boss, just to see how abs where to dodge any of her moves and what’s safe to punish or not. That being said after my 6th try I got tired of it quick and summoned, instantly killed her.
Chadagon on the other hand is fun.
