In the first design dilemma I would remove the TV from above the fireplace and place the TV on a TV stand under the window by the door side. And position the sofas in an L to have the back towards the dining room as you mentioned. And a credenza behind it to add depth.

I am just starting my renovating kitchen journey. It was my grandfather home and in was built in late 60s some updates were made but I hate the crazy tile on the counter tops . I spoke with someone today and on Friday going to look at stones I might like. This will be the first update and will ultimately guide the kitchen in a direction. I love macennas style just wish there was a macenna book that said do that don't do that :) I guess that's what I love about her pod casts :) Im a libra and hate being so indecisive all the time ahhhhhhhh

I needed this vlog. I am going to be redoing my small bedroom. I've chosen the paint color crackled pepper. It's almost black. I'm loving the matte but as a smoker, I'm thinking an eggshell finish. I am looking for a dark, moody and relaxing room. I'm trying to mix some modern with vintage and lots of greenery. Most plants will be fake but I definitely want a few real ones. My budget right now is nonexistent. I'm retiring in one year and want to give myself an oasis. Listening to this vlog has made me feel better about taking a pause and waiting until my income picks up again. Yes, I'm an educator so summer is here and I'm only working part time this summer. I rent from my youngest son so when I retire, I want to leave my apartment completely ready for him to rent out and give a more modern vibe to the place.
Really helpful episode. I'm trying to upgrade a late-70s home and am overwhelmed by how to make the rooms move into the present, reflect a different style than the home's original intent but not feel jarring, add texture, and feel cohesive but not too matchy. Thanks MaCenna 🙏🏼

You were talking about mudrooms, and I got to thinking about the fact that you now have a child, and may want to have more, yet do not have a mudroom. You do have a kitchen entrance, which is a great way for kids to enter in a pinch, but what if you opened a door through your stair landing in the livingroom into your garage? It would give you interior access to your garage and you might be able to create a mudroom wall down there if you added an exterior door into your garage from the other side of your house. Just a thought. :)
My opinion if it were my home. I would add columns and a pony wall with bookshelve to break up the room and divide the area, we don't see the built in many house's anymore but I love it!

I don't agree about the stone being such a statement because a) it's on the top. Not stood up like on show in factory..b) it's going to be covered with items on the sides..
