A year late but you can run the imei through an imei checker and check the carrier and lock status.

Sarah Kinz buy certified refurbished from Apple! At least they use their own parts and you have nothing to worry about. I bought a 6s plus from Apple 2 years ago and it looked brand new. Just different packaging.
