- The D-Day Squadron (DDS) has organised a fleet of DC-3 variants (mainly C-47s) to fly to Europe in 2024 to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the D-Day Invasion, and the 75th anniversary of the Berlin Airlift. During their stay in the UK, 4 Dakota aircraft from the fleet visited the Shuttleworth Collection at Old Warden in Bedfordshire on the 25th and 26th May. This video highlights the arrival and departure of the Dakotas and includes a tour of 'Placid Lassie' narrated by one of it's pilots, Ben Smith.
Nicely done Ben!!
I remember back in the 70s a DC3 used to fly over our house on the way to Staverton Airport , Think it used to fly to Jersey or Guernsey .
As i recall it came over on a Saturday or Sunday , cant quite remember . But it was low over the house and you could hear it coming .
I loved that plane .
Whoever the Camera person is great Videos all , thx .
Nice Video , done very professionally , great commentary from the Pilot .
