Monster 2 piece from the Monster soundtrack. Composed by the great Ryuichi Sakamoto. This is the last project of Ryuichi Sakamoto (January 17, 1952 - March 28, 2023) for the Japanese Horror movie Monster.
More than the film was directed by the critically acclaimed Kore-Eda, what made “Monster” even more special was that it was the last scoring project of Japanese composer, Ryuichi Sakamoto. It featured a haunting score by Sakamoto.
Kore-Eda described his collaboration with Sakamoto as a “longtime wish that finally came true”. Sakamoto used songs from his new album “12” and old songs to compose the whole scoring. In the end, he submitted two piano pieces, as per the request of Kore-Eda.
Sakamoto was known for winning international awards including Academy Award for Best Original Score and the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score.
It can also be remembered that Suga of BTS also tapped Sakamoto for his debut studio album, D-Day.
Two months before the release of Monster, Sakamoto died on March 28, 2023, after a long battle with cancer. R.I.P. legendary composer.
Also when I just started out playing the piano I played quite some material from Ryuichi Sakamoto. The Last Emperor cue is phenomial and the Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence, Babel (Bibo no Aozora) are just a few amazing themes from this amazing composer. Also watching the maestro playing his own material on the piano is very inspiring for me!
This Monster piece is actually a great piece to start mastering if you just starting out playing the piano!

Such a simple piece, but the depth of emotions that it holds within it are so powerful.it takes me back to moments in my life where I lost loved ones, endlessly walking in the rain to heal a broken heart but always found a glimmer of hope.
