If you end up moving into a building without an elevator or laundry services, doing laundry can end up being tedious especially in a walk up building. Amazon sells portable washers/dryers that you can hook up to your kitchen sink via a hose (reasonably priced)😊. Another nyc tip is that these older buildings can have roaches or mice. As far as roaches/bedbugs go I recommend buying more of a professional brand spray at home depot & spraying arnd your place 1x month as preventive maintenance.

FYI Hells Kitchen is a super safe hood. The worst you’d deal with are annoying tourists and crazy homeless if you hang too close to Time Square. There aren’t really any ‘unsafe’ areas of Manhattan, even with the recent uptick of crime. NYC is the safest big city in the country.

I was looking for comment about her saying she didnt feel safe in Hells kitchen. The only place in Manhattan that I really feel is dangerous is Harlem. And even so Harlem really isnt as dangerous as people make it out to be. Besides shootings and gang violence (which barely occurs) and the amount of homeless people (who are mostly by the main streets: 116th, 125th etc.) thats pretty much it. So it was really surprising hearing her say that Hells kitchen made her unsafe.

I'm now convinced New Yorkers are mentally insane.😂Do understand the kind of house... yet alone an APARTMENT that you can land in Louisiana or Florida for $2500 a month? $2500???? you'd be fully gated, full kitchen, 3 bedroom surrounded by nature parks and a block from the beach year round. Not a concert jungle.

The way that the second hell’s kitchen apartment was dirty was not from a tenant. That was neglect for years and years from the landlord. They weren’t going to clean that before you moved in. Cracked tiles? Good call on not renting that.

So you must have an $80K annual gross income to rent a $2K monthly apartment. The cosignor must make $160K annually? I would move to another borough or Long Island. Rentals in Manhattan are crazy and seemingly dirty. To move in, you need the monthly rent x three (security deposit, first and last month's rent). Broker fee can be negotiated. Not worth it.

the list of requirements in the video is pretty standard. It can vary somewhat, but I don't think that staten island is going to be completely different than what is in the video. For people thinking of moving to New York City, I would usually recommend taking a look at a co-living solution, or an AirBnb, preferably close to your desired neighborhood, so that you are able to get a feel of the neighborhood and can physically view apartments.

Well, with all due respect, Emilio was unemployed, at that time, even though he had had interviews. Did you expect all landlords to not follow NYC rules for you (no shade intended)?

spend more, $3k, if two are working that is not hard to cover $1500 each/mo.

What about living just outside NYC? I grew up in Westchester County and right now you can rent beautiful apartments in that price range close to the metro. Those apartments were in terrible condition.

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! I feel bad bc I would never recommend anyone to live in lower Manhattan unless you had a huge budget and even then, why would you want to. I wouldn’t even leave my house to view any of these tiny apartments, especially to share with a partner. Manhattan honestly sucks unless you’re upper Manhattan but then again, I’m black and a guy from nyc so I feel a lot safer than you probably would in most neighborhoods and it may be too much of a culture shock for you as well. The MTA exists, there’s literally no reason to require walking distance to work in Manhattan especially with a small budget of $2.5K for two ppl.

Ok, I live in Belgium and oh my God, are Americans super rich or what???? 2000-2500 $ a month???????? That's basically my whole paycheck, and here in Belgium that's considered not bad. I could never ever afford 2000-2500 $ a month! 😱😱😱😱😱

No this is a New York thing - not an American thing. America is HUGE and what you see in New York City is very different than the rest of the country. 🥰

Dear God, I'm from Europe and to me this all seems very expensive for a small square meter you get for that money......And such a difficult battle to get a contract for an apartment is like a fight with bulls. New York is really a very expensive city ... for that money I get 60m2 in the center of Paris

40x the annual rent?!?? So for 2,000x12 months = 24,000 rent annually… you therefore have to be earning 24,000x40 = $960,000 a year 😮😮 is that right or am I confused?!?
Because I earn 110,000 per year and can afford 2,000 a month so that seems crazy to me.
Maybe you mean you have to earn 40xthe monthly rent annually… so therefore 80,000/year? Lol sorry for being confused.

I’m sorry but it’s NOT worth it. NY has so much negative energy. I lived here for over a decade and I’m honestly working on leaving. It’s fun while you’re in your early 20s. The things that I have witnessed and experienced being here has changed my mind. It’s a love/hate but honestly it’s not worth the stress and anxiety. Everyone is on edge and are irritated, especially commuting on the subway. There are too many sacrifices to be here. Working in a hamster wheel for what? It’s smoke and mirrors and the prices are criminal. I’m leaving as soon as I can.
