It's virtually all improv... Marty Short has some talking points written down, as he always does, but then they just wing it. Steve and Marty also know each other quite well.
@@DaveJOHAZ Ah, yes, the lesser known Third Amigo, who solved crimes, protected the President, and foiled the plans of megalomaniacal villains in the Wild, Wild West!
I think I’ve watched every Glick interview by now, and this extended cut, that last minute or so when Marty asks Steve if his instinct to “almost go there” is what kept him from the “big bucks” was priceless - then they both break character and laugh so hysterically - just made me laugh harder and louder than any Glick moment so far - Pure gold. Great chemistry. Love these two!
I think they usually edit it out. There are sometimes I think he breaks when the camera is not on him but we can hear him laugh. And I think he covers up real laughs with Jiminy's laugh or other vocal mannerisms.
I saw Martin Short perform in New York years ago. He’s hilarious. Kim kardashian was just becoming famous. He was providing the entertainment for a Broadway fundraiser for underprivileged youth that were artistically gifted. It was a pretty reserved crowd, kind of a tough crowd in the beginning. Out of nowhere he spouted out “Some people are born great while others have greatness THRUSTED inside of them....but enough about Kim Kardashian. “ I almost spit out my wine because I was laughing so hard 🤣😂🤣
the way Martin asks "are we running out of time?" like a hopeful little kid, his face looking like he's about to be sprung from detention for Summer Vacation is great. 0:50
Just a few hours ago 8/26/23 I was watching a video about Vegas that said Steve Martin And Martin Short would be appearing together to do a show in the next month or so. I didn't realize either of them were still performing. That would be cool to see.
So this is where the idea for "Between Two Ferns" came from. I'm not complaining at all, though, because this type of comedy is hilarious and I'm glad that somebody is still carrying the torch.
It wasn’t until 5 mins later after watching, did I realize how super clever/layered was Steve’s retort of “ask me again was”. I was to busy enjoying them both completely losing it.
0:45 - "There's so much more I want to talk to you about, but you know, I am on this United Flight and I just want to fly down and stretch out" - - I literally have a United Flight tonight and I get anxious flying and for whatever reason this quote always calms me down before a flight.
Brilliant. Check out how Steve Martin referring to the oversized glasses mentioned not one, but two "Cary's" who wore the big glasses but omits the most iconic and obvious, Harry Carary. I'm hoping this was all part of the joke and it's not just me appreciating an overlooked moment.
It's surreal watching Jiminy talk to Steve Martin about his role as Hotep in the Prince of Egypt because Jiminy's actor, Martin Short, played alongside him as Huy. I'm sure they did this on purpose.
So why edit out the part where Jiminy puts his hand out and makes a gesture that Steve was a gay as a cheerleader? It was the funniest part of the interview.
I looked up a foto of Carrie Donovan, NYT fashion editor, and Steve is spot on! The oversized black glasses are the same and the older Carrie had hair like Jiminy’s. So yes, somewhat obscure reference for many of us but after seeing a photo of her, I’d be shocked if Marty didn’t base that look on her.
“You were born at 4:55am...are you still a morning person?"
This is the Apex moment of everything Jiminy Click is. The peak of a tiny fat wave that smelled like rotten seaweed.
;)
Bro thats a Nardwaur statement
😂😂😂😂❤
When Martin Short is interviewing his closest friends it is pure unadulterated joy.
If this is improv, Martin is a genius.
If this is a script, Martin is a genius.
Which Martin?
David Jorgensen
Yes

Hard to cover up the love these two comic geniuses have for each other
Derek Gleeson not hyperbole at all
Feel like they were just trying to make each other break, especially short
@@rossdreizler4191 I saw that. And it's wonderful. Two good friends trying to crack each other up first, lol
Showbiz is a hella ting...
I’m so 😢
That "are you still a morning person?" line may be the single funniest thing I've ever heard
I once thought that as well. (Then I listened to the _rest_ of the interview.)
@@IslamicOrigins read the room
Really. The funniest ?
Them laughing together is priceless
This was a lot warmer and almost as incredible as when Jiminy asked Mel Brooks "What's your big beef with the Nazis?"
😂😂😂
“Oh…I think they’re rude!”
@@samfilmkid 'I guess'
This is so pointless
Exactly. Pointless and boring. Blah blah
When he strikes the dog and Steve's face, "he'll be out for a while" literally had me in tears

Only interview both actors completely forgot what they were doing.
2 amigos
"Cary Schwartz my dentist..."
Short is such an amazing quick witted comedian... So under appreciated
Most underrated comedic actor of his time.
He sorta played the straight role in Captain Ron. The synchronized swimmer on snl & SCTV stuff was classic
Steve Martin's smile is fab 😊
That’s the only time I’ve seen Short break character
I think he does at the end of the David Duchovny interview too, for about half a second
I was laughing so hard at that moment
I think they usually edit it out. There are sometimes I think he breaks when the camera is not on him but we can hear him laugh. And I think he covers up real laughs with Jiminy's laugh or other vocal mannerisms.
Nathan Lane got him, for just a second..😄
Check out his interview with Kurt Russell

Thanks for this share Daisy 😊👍
The honesty between them as deep and true friends makes this the best Glick interviews of them all in my mind.
"Do you know what i THINK?"
"Do you KNOW what i think?"
HE BREAKS ! WHEN THE LAUGH TOGETHER AT THE END!! LOVE IT!

OMG Steve Martin got Martin Short to break character at the end. So funny
I love Steve Martin's laugh. These 2 are gold together.
I've watched this a dozen times. Gives me a good laugh without fail. The two of them together....priceless.
Thanks for this. The back and forth of these two is unmatched!
The dog abuse moment is gold 😂😂😂
there's no wonder these two became best friends - they crack each other up endlessly
"You're not a wild and crazy guy" I laughed for more than a minute when I heard that. Martin Short is absolutely hilarious
The shorts he wore when cheerleading were Steve MARTIN’s SHORTs.
First interview I’ve seen Martin Short actually break character with that laugh. 4:04
almost broke character in the Jerry Seinfeld interview but it took his good friend Steve Martin to finally make him laugh
Watch Jiminy's interview with Illeana Douglas. He totally loses it, and since it was done live as a red carpet gig, it's not edited out.
Great performance /interview by Martin and Steve! They've got such chemistry. It's fantastic. Thank you for posting this!
that last exchange is so beautiful. There's so much going on there.
Ahah I love the last part where Jimmy is laughing ..I saw martin for a second
Watching Steve Martin crack up was priceless.
What lifeless monsters would thumbs down these geniuses? Madness.
Loving their shared laughter at the end
Not easy to crack up Steve Martin.
I wish he said: "Too dimensional? Should it have been less dimensional?"

This is the first time I saw Short break character for a moment.
Omg, where did you find this obscure extended interview? So awesome! Love it. Thank you!
I loved this. I wanted it to be longer.
This is a masterpiece
So this is where the idea for "Between Two Ferns" came from. I'm not complaining at all, though, because this type of comedy is hilarious and I'm glad that somebody is still carrying the torch.
Love both shows!
Fernwood tonight
Never thought striking a dog could be so funny!
He'll be out for a while...
"He'll be out for a while."
Short's agility in this character is amazing. World-class performances.
so quick
Thanks for the upload!
Kind of ironic that Short asks about Hotep in Prince of Egypt, when he played the character Hoy.
Coincidence of no consequence isn't irony.
It wasn’t until 5 mins later after watching, did I realize how super clever/layered was Steve’s retort of “ask me again was”. I was to busy enjoying them both completely losing it.
Knowing these two are amazingly close friends makes this all that more hilarious...
That was so good and I hated to see it end! Two highly intelligent and funny guys!
‘Carey Schwarz, my dentist’ 😂
They are just PERFECTION together !!!
I will pray for America.
Please pray for me.
God Bless you.
I love these 2 best friends so much
These two leave me happy every stinkin’ time.
Steve Martin had no idea that the mail plane would one day grow big balls.
Upvote for the Three Amigos reference.
Steve is enjoying him!
They're so funny, they can't get through it because they make each other laugh.
If I’m ever in a bad mood, all I need to do is watch five minutes of Steve and Marty! 😂
0:45 - "There's so much more I want to talk to you about, but you know, I am on this United Flight and I just want to fly down and stretch out" - - I literally have a United Flight tonight and I get anxious flying and for whatever reason this quote always calms me down before a flight.
Priceless and Timeless.
Bring back Jiminy Glick!!!!
Ali McGraw read from Homer!! LOL!
*I love how Martin ultimately makes even a legendary wit like Steve **_finally_** yield.* 😂
My brain thinks 'baseball' every time I see the chair Jiminy is sitting in. 😂
How is it that the huge glasses remind Steve of Carrie Donovan and Cary Grant, but not Harry Caray???
Of course it was Harry Caray, but they used that as an excuse to see how many others they could name
Miss them guys being more famous. They ruled the 80s.
" I would wear shorts and think....well maybe your right !"
Did you say...your WIFE, Dixie?
Yes. I did.
cool to see these two greats finally collaborate on something. I know I'm not the only one who's wanted to see it for a while.
They have a current tv show called Only Murders in the Building.
Martin Short does not break character ever... except with his best friend
Who were some of your great interviews?
Well this isn’t one
GOLD
I love how he made Marty break at the end. I think Steve Martin is the only interviewee who pulled that off.
Alec Baldwin got him to break, too.
I love them both immeasurably.
I like how he puts celebrities in their place with little humbling comments.
Famous sports broadcasting legend Harry Carey also had similar glasses.
Steve Martin could've been a great Joker with the smile.
Simply superb
Hahaha that moment at the end was great!
Hahaha! Martin broke! I love it!
And… imagine making Steve Martin laugh?
“Well this isn’t one…” goddamn he’s so good at the CUTS
genius.. absolute genius!..
I love how Glick casually puts his dog down for the sake of the interview. Truly no one cares this much about show biz anymore…
Martin, was charged with not keeping his hands to himself… he is a naughty man… banned from Town House in Manhattan
Lmao Martin asking "are we out of time?" and then seeming disappointed when the answer is "no" 😂
Martin Short is so quick!
2 Amigos!

laughing throughout this entire interview!
Just two very funny people trying to make eachother laugh. Very charming to watch.
This is the best. Watching Steve lose it is great. I’ve watched this many times. Jiminy might be the funniest character ever.

"...but I'm on this United flight..." 😂
My dad was a cheerleader-He gonna love this tidbit about Steve
It was Steve's collection of art that prompted Marty to ask him how he got so rich ["I've seen your work."]
you tell yourself just 2 or 3 Glicks... and then 2 hrs have gone by lol
"Modig...Modi...Moody Blues..."
Steve: “Who were some of your great interviews?”
Jiminy: “Well this isn’t one…

It's surreal watching Jiminy talk to Steve Martin about his role as Hotep in the Prince of Egypt because Jiminy's actor, Martin Short, played alongside him as Huy. I'm sure they did this on purpose.
Jiminy should have mentioned The Three Amigos too. Maybe ask him which one was his favorite
So why edit out the part where Jiminy puts his hand out and makes a gesture that Steve was a gay as a cheerleader?
