  • A MAGICAL walk from VILLEFRANCHE to ST JEAN CAP FERRAT including drone flight over Rothschild Villa.
A spectacular coastal history walk from Villefranche to St Jean Cap Ferrat via the point des Sans Culottes. I've discovered how the Russians influenced Villefranche. Why a propaganda film was made by the US Navy about its most famous restaurateur, visited the Rolling Stones Villa Nellcote and taken a drone flight over the Rothschild Villa.
These are key points on the walk:
    Where I started: goo.gl/maps/6hsHRaQGuxHBxNqy7
When I arrived in Villefranche: goo.gl/maps/Zjj5Gdbd37MAUfRy5
    Restaurant: La Mère Germaine goo.gl/maps/qZAdoSsHtwhRnueg8
How to get to the Rolling Stones villa: goo.gl/maps/vwWchrDYh185nEvs6
Where to turn for Villa Rothschild: goo.gl/maps/crh2SDEgZ7NJgPsHA

Hi Tim. What a shame ( for us😉) that we missed you filming, doing the very same walk last week too. We wondered what what was behind those big black and gold gates, now we know 😁. We also made our way to Mont Alban following your footsteps of last week. Just as you said , the views were absolutely incredible. Wonderful to be back in Villefranche , if only for a few days, to enjoy the sunshine and the clarity of of light. Back in the grey of the UK now, bracing ourselves for winter☹️ . Can wait for another visit before to long. Many thanks for all the info.

It is several years since I last did the coastal walk and now my health prevents me dealing with all the steps. It is such a pleasure to see all my old haunts through your eyes. Though I must admit to missing many of the sites/sights that you have not included. Despite this your walks are excellent and deserve a much wider audience.

Isn't it funny how bits of poetry can stick in your long term memory half a century or more after you committed them to memory? Coleridge was my favourite poet as a lad, and I still remember stanzas from his works (Kubla Khan, The Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner). So when you said "like a painted ship upon a painted ocean", I immediately recalled one of the preceding stanzas, but was unable to remember the lines in the couple of following stanzas leading up to the famous painted ship quote:
    The fair breeze blew,
    The white foam flew.
    The furrow followed free:
    We were the first,
    That ever burst
    Into that silent sea.
    Beautiful, isn't it?

Dear Tim, Thank you for your magnificent video, a sublime feast for the senses that takes me back to the place on the planet I love the most. I had been visiting yearly until the pandemic stole four years. Now, having discovered your magical channel, I feel that I am almost there! I just booked my ticket for September and can't wait to take it back. There is a little sun-warmed picnic bench waiting for me at the end of Plage de Mariniere's crescent of sand--I'm sure you know exactly where. From there I will head up the path to the left and walk the most jaw-dropping route in the world, a stupefied smile plastered on my face, gratefully inhaling every long-awaited moment as if it were my last. So finally, here is my ask: do you mind sharing the location of that most perfect turquoise swimming spot designed by the God of Cap Ferrat where you swam every day during lockdown? My last trip, I promised myself, I would finally swim the secret spots on Cap Ferrat -- I always happened upon them by happy accident, dazzled, unprepared, no towel, such a waste. I swore I would do it right the next time I came and research well in advance (your video, to wit). If you'd rather not share, I completely understand and will sign off by saying if one day you see a diminutive sixty-two-year-old lady with a towel round her waist and stupid smile on her face, that's probably me. I am going back to your video and dreaming of my return. Thank you Tim from Suzi in Montreal

just a bit of trivia but the Sans Culottes were actually the common people who took part in the French Revolution -they did wear their underwear just not the fancy pants they upper classes did. (I guess that's where the term fancy pants comes from???) The upper classes wore knee breeches or culottes and the lower classes long pants hence "les sans culottes". I only know that because I studied it in year 12. I absolutely love your channel. Thank you.

    Bonjour from New Zealand.
I was compelled to send a wee message.
Just stumbled across your site, looking up all things Villefranche, as we are thinking of staying there next year. I have watched quite a few of your delightful posts, really love how you intertwine researched history of the area, with what's happening in your part of the Riveria with a fun, personable delivery.
Have to say, surpasses a lot of other travel posts as some can be a bit vapid and all about them!
    Keep posting.
    Warmest Wishes to you both.

The swastika symbol, 卐 (right-facing or clockwise) or 卍 (left-facing, counterclockwise, or sauwastika), is an ancient religious icon in the cultures of Eurasia. It is used as a symbol of divinity and spirituality in Indian religions, including Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism. The Swastika, a Sanskrit word meaning ‘conducive to well-being’, is drawn in two ways: left-facing or right-facing. The right-facing version of the symbol is what is commonly known as ‘Swastika’ whereas the left-facing version is called the ‘Sauwastika’. Both versions are widely respected especially by Buddhists, Hindus and Jains as an important religious symbol.
Most likely the villa represents the symbol for it’s true meaning.
