- Good Thursday my dear friends! So in light of last week's cover (More Human Than Human by White Zombie) a comment came up comparing the beat to Primal Scream by Motley Crue. I thought "Well YESSSS!!!" so I spent the last 3-4 days learning this particular tune. I continue to feel that #mötleycrüe and Tommy Lee were entering their writing prime so it is my honor to try and do this song justice (or just have fun with a #drumcover LOL!). Lars made the Double Bass famous after “…And Justice For All!”, and Tommy looked so cool with the stick twirls-and is probably the grooviest 4 On The Floor Rocker from the 80’s. He always played with a sense of delay and space in Motley Crüe’s music. Always will be one of my favorites-ALWAYS!

Dude, did the White Zombie one last week and the second I read that comment that said it had a Primal Scream feel, I immediately said the same thing. It's one that's certainly a hit but not as huge as some of the others. Drums and bass in it are tits. But even doing the drum cover, I remain a Mick Mars fan and say he has to put his stamp on these tunes. I fucking love the guitar in this.

What up Doug? I sure appreciate that. I'm here to hopefully just entertain folks and pick some songs ppl on here like. That said, it's always fun when a Crue tune comes up. On this one, I already know there are other covers of it with huge views. I typically stray from the more well known MC tunes just because there are so many well done covers already out there. But every now and then it's fun to at least do one like this because the songs really are fun and I do sincerely love Tommy's playing from that era. Plus, I never end up note for noting much of anything so (hopefully) it's got its own vibe......or as much as a cover can have its own vibe. Yep, I've just been going down memory lane. See, to me, I immediately think 80's but it was fascinating to look back and see this was 1991. So while I don't really remember it as clearly as I'd like, I was jamming Pantera and so called grunge movement was right behind this. First of all, you can see the joy in your face as you play. Your playing has such fluidity. If I didn’t know better I would have thought you wrote the drum parts lol. You own every single stroke. Tommy plays such tasty licks throughout the song and you nailed them! Killer man! One of my favorite Mötley songs!
Hey Rob!!!! I'm digging that so many ppl are commenting this is one of their fav Motley tracks. I picked this and honestly didn't know. That's a long way of me saying "Whew" 😂😂. Man, if Tommy's style had a DNA, there would be an entire generation with that DNA. And he was ideal for a young drummer to emulate (still is in my opinion). Some of his earlier tracks aren't overly technical but he has feel for damn days. To me, his strength has always been that he plays for the song and he's the only guy for that band. Sadly I don't think many ppl have ever really listened to him on the 94 release because if you really listen to that, he's showing how influenced he was by Bonham and he really highlighted his own identity in a big way on that album. And what's so damn cool about it is that it's "his" version of the Bonham style. Anyways, SO sorry for blabbing. I sure, sure appreciate you 🙏🙏🙏❤💪👊🤘🤘🤘
Absolutely agree with ya TREY, that damn 94 record was INSANE and no shits here,till this day My fav rock record of all time,its rare when u buy a record and from the opening riff right thru that 12th and final beauty of micks acoustics,I was floored how good the album came out and yes man the very,very FIRST thing that grabbed me was TOMMY LEE'S drumming,just so far ahead of anything from him on earlier albums,we got to see how much of a F'N KILLER this dude really was,when being able to open it up and the whole band was on 10,NIKKI even sounded pretty good,but yea bro definately my fav DRUMMER EVER!!

I've had a soft spot for this one since it came out. Like you said, there are so many mega hits that this one (to me) can get pushed down the list but I love what the drums sound and feel like on this. Plus it was that turning point when they were headed for that '94 sound and it's entirely a personal thing for me but that's when I just loved what Tommy was doing. This one was a fun tune. When they released this, I wasn't expecting much on new songs but was super happy with this one. Thought the direction of the band was looking really cool. Well.........it was 😂😂😂. Three of 'em went on and took this sound a step further where Vince went his way and took it back to party rock - and he really did put out a damn good solo album. To me, it was a clear indicator that '94 sound with Corabi was coming. All I can guess is they had no intention to do anymore borderline pop stuff on the album after Feelgood. Appreciate you dude! 🤘🤘

I had friends saying no matter where they went on CZcams my video was showing up everywhere. Guess I just hit the bullseye 🎯 with sounds of silence. I honestly.thought I'd get more negative comments than positive in fact, I seriously considered disabling comments at launch. I think that you are in a league of your own, I'm surprised you dont have millions of subs and contract offers from well known bands. The youtube algorithm is a strange thing that's for sure.

Great cover as always Trey! I think this is the first cover i've seen you do with Neil on vocals. Everything sounds so so good. The Bell tone is crisp and the floor toms sound so deep and cool. And of course your snare and Bass drums are always thunderous! Big like.
Yo Robb!!!! So you got me curious - I went back and I've got 3 Vince ones. Did Live Wire, did Shout At The Devil 97 (which is kinda Vince but the whole tune is different) and then I did one track off Generation Swine which is barely Vince. The reason for that is the classic Crue stuff is just drilled on YT. So, so, so many great drummers who have covered all those super well known songs. On stuff like that, I'm happy to still cover them but only if I think I can entertain folks on this channel. And for me, I got a littler burned on their catalog years ago from doing a Crue tribute. But I do still very, very much love all of SATD, dig most of their 1st album and I actually dig the hell out of GGG. Feelgood is a groove filled commercial masterpiece. But I ultimately lean toward what Tommy became in the 90's. I'll stop now LOL! I'm so sorry for blabbing dude. Hell, back to the point of all this - thank you my friend for just being so damn kind and supportive.

The first time I saw you I showed the video to my wife and said...this guys hits so hard and has all the stick tricks down pat....he's like Tommy Lee. You are more fun to watch though, because of all the different bands, styles and creativity you have. Like doing the Lido shuffle ....Arianda Grande metal cover and that upside snare effect a couple weeks ago. Creative & Fun!!

The ride surprised me in this one. I started going from underneath to mic it just to save floor space and avoid another stand. For whatever reason, it came up tight in the mix on this one. Holy shit I can't believe I missed this one Andrea - I am so SO sorry. Dude, this was the precursor to '94 now that I can look at it in hindsight. This song kinda tells the story that they could have written that album with Vince as long as they kept it right in this zone - but, not to be. I'll always be glad for the Corabi album just because it was musically my favorite Crue record dude. Still is BUT - I agree with you. This is their heaviest track with Vince from that time frame to me.

Mr. MIKE! Man, this era of Tommy is my fav by a pretty fair margin. He was turning into that big pocket drummer more in line with his version of Bonham and guys like that. I always thought the early stuff, he pulled alot from Mick Turner of Sweet. But he was this mix of that and Zepp. I remain a fan of his drumming style my friend. I don't follow Motley too much nowadays but they sure made an impact on me 🤘🤘🤘🤘

This was a cassette for me as well!!! I remember I got Feelgood on CD but this one I had on a cassette. I think it must have been because it was songs they'd already released and I didn't expect much but they wrote a monster tune on this. Plus, I can hear it now and the drum / bass approach to my ears was already telling people they were changing to that '94 album style. I'll always like Tommy's work overall but his stretch from around '92 through '95 is a man at the top of his game. He was a creative and MASSIVELY hard hitting drummer. Appreciate ya!

Great job bro,as always man!!I feel like this tune right here was the beginning of that 94 album sound,Tommys drums have that similar production here and it may also be when he went from PEARL to DW and man what a crisp,pop on that snare and urs as well bro!!I remember in Aug of 91 being 17 yrs old a HUGE crue fan and THIS MONSTER came out and I was like oh shit,this is pretty heavy and actually love EVERYTHING bout this tune,lyrics are also more personal and closer in that same direction of CRUES 94 BEAST,so it sure seemed to me they were already gearing up for a Heavier sounding record before Vince got FIRED!!sorry for blabbin brotha,great sound my man!!
You ain't blabbin in the least. I could not agree more and sat her saying "YEP" as I read what you wrote. The move over to DW is an element I've never thought of but there's some studying to do on that! You are 100% spot on - the timing of that lines up exactly as you said. To me, DW drums have a different sound. Please understand I'm not dogging Pearl because Pearl has some PHENOMENAL sounding kits. I've had to absolute pleasure of playing them along the way and they can make them some drums. DW has a sound I feel like I know though and that's entirely due to personal preference. Now I know Tommy enhances his drums and reinforces with sampling / doubling / whatever was available, but the man could hit like a damn train. And this to me was the dead give away to what was coming. This feeds directly into their 94 album. Appreciate ya Ray!!!!
