I've also tried several approaches now with packing my FJ for trips. I've had drawers, found them too heavy and clunky. Then moved onto storage boxes. Much lighter, easier to pack/unpack. Now I've just switched to bags/cubes similar to what you are showing here. I think I like this best so far. It's light, easy to move around inside and outside the vehicle, easy to stack/pack/stow away because they sort of mold around other items. It's easy to get carried away if you are into the 4x4 world but from first hand experience I've learned that simple is often best! Thanks for showing your setup, I got a few handy tips out of it!
Thanks for taking the time to comment and share your thoughts. This set.upnis exactly how I have done all my 4wds. Its simple and works. In my GU I had a shelf with plastic under bed storage tubs tney worked well too. I have a video on this too. Canvas code style.bag work really good as you mentioned too. Cheers Thanks for watching
Thanks mate, it does vary a little but I feel I have it all sorted. I have tried a few different variations with the FJ so far. I think a shelf would really add to the versatility of it.
Cheers for the video mate. Just looking at getting into solo camping or camping with my little one so looking for practical ideas. Also you mentioned at the end regarding a rear shelf for your FJ. A company called Kaon in QLD do one it pairs up with their light weight cargo barrier. Hope that helps and keep the vid’s coming.
Solo camping is awesome mate, from a young age I took my girls away from the VHC to the outback I looked into Kaon gear but I don't want the cargo barrier. I have there rear mount uhf bracket fitted fney seem to make quality gear. Thanks for watching. Cheers
Ive built a box around my fridge. With a carry box strapped to the top with some eyelets to hold it down, also allows you to put stuff beside the fridge and window space and have the fridge operable.
That is pretty much how I had the set up on my GU. It worked really well but I did have a fridge slide fitted to that one. In the FJ I dont have the slide installed. One reason was a saving of heaps of weight approx say approx 15kg of steel. I know there are lighter options on the market now. My slide i have I bought back in 2005...gee that's a while ago 🤦🏼♂️🤣 Thanks for taking the time to comment kt os much appreciated.
@@OffroadTouringLife ahh I see. I use an ORS (off road systems) slide which uses the lip to mount a chopping board to with a couple of cut tent legs as support, acts as my table.
Dont wait for someone to make a over priced product you won’t 100% like. I cut up a old security door to make a cargo barrier to the roof and fridge cage, then built up off that. The fj already has a massive handicap with size in the back, but with some problem solving you can make yourself a cargo area that works for you
I have been chatting to a company about the shelf Idea. I'mm all for keeping it simple and the prices down. great idea with the door. Thanks for taking the time to comment!

Nice one mate, it pays to be organised and pack a similar way each time. Awesome 😎

Yeah a cargo barrier would be handy ❤
It would definitely. I always had one fitted in my GU. I do at times need to drop the seats for the extra room which is the compromise.
Nice and easy mate. Cheers Steve
Sure is mate, I'm currently editing my next video too!

Do you carry any spare parts and oils for the car for longer trips ?
Only on the more remote trips. I also have pre trip servicing and expecting done IE betls, hoses.
Thanks for watching
Doesn’t leave much room for my gear 😂
We will find a spot mate 🤣
I'm really looking forward to that trip!
