Italy can really be cold in Winter, it certainly was in 2023. I would recommend travelling in Italy from mid-April to end of June, then from very end of August to mid-November. Unless you want to ski, where I would favor January/February perhaps. But there is of course no garanti, especially now with Global Warming… at the height of the Summer season, you may experience extreme heat, higher prices and mass tourism. The problem when going off-season, is that a good half of the coffee shops, restaurants etc. are closed. I think you mentioned about it. You also mentioned about how nice people in Southern Italy are. This is so true… Nice video.
Loving that blooper at the end.
I am currently going round Italy with my car since last Winter, taking photos, which I post on my Instagram account, for those interested. A bit of self promotion here :)

I accidentally deleted my reply, so here it is again. We agree with your assessment about the times to visit Italy. Winter is way too cold for us there (although we did have a nice trip in November 2019 when we visited over Thanksgiving. It was cold, but we enjoyed being there over that holiday). We lucked out this summer when we visited Genova and Torino in mid/late June that it wasn't sweltering. If you avoid the beach towns and places that locals use as second homes (e.g., Lecce), you'll have much better luck in the off season. I just subscribed to your CZcams channel and Instagram! I give you a lot of credit. We try to avoid car travel as much as we can, but I'm sure you get to experience wonderful places that we miss. Thanks for watching, and you might want to watch our Italy series of videos, which I've linked below. It includes a second video from Lecce called Frozen in Lecce! -Judy

Thanks for the extra comments and tips. As a full time traveler weather is an issue. You both seem to be adjusting well!

Absolutely our pleasure, Erin! When we realized how much we didn't say about Lecce, we needed to record an additional episode to do it justice, even though it was from Assisi! And we do feel as though weather is an additional character in our stories. We're currently dealing with the heat in Egypt, and that's been especially challenging for Kevin and his fair skin! Thank you so much for watching and commenting. We always love hearing from you! -Judy

I'm so fascinated with walled cities/Citadels. Can't wait to get overseas to explore some of them with my own eyes. These videos are so fun. Thanks for sharing your experience! Keep up the great work, folks!!
+1 to trying that Frise Di Orzo! Sounded wild (as someone that loves making bread)

Thank you so much for watching and for taking the time to comment! And we appreciate that you stayed until the end for the outtakes! Lucca (not to be confused with Lecce!) also is definitely worth seeing. The top of its walls have entire parks, and great paths for walking or biking. @@FindingGinaMarie we will be driving around Puglia for 22 days. I hope it won’t be too cold. We are staying in Bari (4 days), Matera (4 days), Monopoli (3 days), Ostuni (2 days), Martina Franco (4 days), and Brindisi (4 days). We will be taking a lot of day trips from those towns so we should be able to see most of the region. After that, we are heading to Rome for 4 days. It’s been any years since I’ve been to Rome so it will be nice to visit it again.
I’ve been enjoying your videos and have picked up some great tips!

@@deenaparker8689 This sounds like an amazing trip! We really would love to hear about your experiences with each of these cities when you return since we barely scratched the surface of Puglia with our visit to Lecce. We hadn't been back to Rome since 2017, but we had to go there for vaccinations in February, so look for our "Rome In A Day" video coming soon. As you know, Rome deserves significantly more time than a day, but we were surprised how much we could cover on a day trip! Of course, for someone's first time there, lingering is required! Thank you so much for watching, and we're delighted we are able to provide some helpful tips! -Judy

Hello both :) Thanks for this video, I live in the province of Lecce (54 Km to south) and I really enjoied it!
Usually I go to Lecce because is the most complete and beautiful city we have in Salento (Salento is the area between Brindisi, Taranto and Lecce) and I can say that this is a very well explained video!
Other nice and different cities are: Gallipoli, Otranto, Castro, Alessano, Tricase, Galatina and the whole coast from east to west!
Hoping that you will enjoy your stay in Salento, thanks.
    Matteo

Hi Matteo, thank you so much for watching. How lucky you are to live in the province of Lecce! We definitely would like to visit this region more in depth in the late spring or fall (before snow weather!). We appreciate the suggestions of places to visit, because Italy has so many places to explore that it's hard to know where to begin. You might want to also check out our other Lecce episode if you missed it (just to see if we got things right 😉) -Judy
