I was a student for a year at Mindanao State University (MSU) as a exchange scholar from my country in Malaysia way back 1968. I never thought of visiting Maria Cristina Falls! I don't know why? It was only in 2018 that I visited the place due to the persistent encouragement of my grandchildren. It was majestic indeed.

Mindanao gets more than half of its electricity from hydropower. Aside from Maria Cristina, there's also the Pulangui Dam in Bukidnon and the Agusan Dam in Agusan. But the island itself heavily depends on Maria Cristina.

It was a long drive but I insisted we stop there. It was closed then but I was able to convince them to allow us to visit. It is amazing. My daughter Zoa had turned six and was also fascinated by the cave full of bats 😊. Thanks for sharing and have a safe trip back to Surigao. This was clearly worth the stop. Thanks JunJun.

    Hello Jay, Sach and Story,
    thanks for visiting my hometown..
my family used to lived on a housing community near Maria Cristina Falls..
there was a time when you can stand on the plantform area of the power plant and you very near the falls and you can feel the mist and dew of the falls in your face, but now its prohibited..
you shouldve visited the spring pools in iligan called timoga and tried the lechon being sold at the area..
theres a falls called Tinago where you can take a dip as well, but itll be a journey cause you have to walk a long way down to reach the falls..
thanks again for visiting and promoting my hometown..

Thanks for visiting Iligan City, a small but perfect city to live in. I am from Batangas, spent my childhood in Tibiao Antique, and finally settled in this wonderful city now I called my homeplace. Maria Cristina Falls is one of the many waterfalls in the city, other famous falls nearby are the Tinago and Mimbalut falls. Maybe on your next visit, you can stop by the Timoga spring pool.
I hope you enjoyed your walks at Hinaplanon esplanades and your daughter enjoyed the river view and the fresh air. The stopover at one of my favorite coffee shops at Solana is just perfect too and it's actually just a walk away to one of the best state universities in the Philippines, the MSU-Iligan Institute of Technology.
Maybe a sumptuous lunch of Lechon and hanging rice (called puso!) and a swim in ice-cold mineral water like a spring pool at Timoga will complete your next visit. Daghan salamat sa pagbisita in one of the safest cities in Mindanao, the Iligan City.

I've been in Iligan for so many times but I never have a chance to see Maria Christina Falls, thought there were lots of beautiful spots that we've been through. Hope you could visit on one of them in Iligan.
    Thank you for sharing.
