- Hey guys!
We are so proud to give you all a tour of our tiny home that we have built on the back of a 4X4 Mercedes Benz Unimog u1700. Its pretty much vanlife on steroids. We thought we could complete this build in 4 months but ended up taking us about 2 years because we drastically under-budgeted and had to go back to work!
We fell in love with vanlife and tiny homes thru hundreds of "Full Van Tour" and "DIY Tiny Home" videos we watched and then, we got to work on our own. We did 99% ourselves from the tiny home design to welding to tiling.

The hole in roof is actually for when you fit the passenger ejection seat travelling far distances your passenger can become very annoying this feature is a must especially for any married couple 😅
Love the layout!!
Awesomeness
Excelente !!! es el mejor diseño que he visto . !!! espero tener algun día mi motor home. Buen viaje !
Gracias Amigo!! 🙏
One of the smartest expedition rig out there and full of personality. Excellent job 👍👍
With some builds, you just think to yourself, I can never do that, but with this, it looks amazing, works great and doesn't seem like an insurmountable challenge, thanks so much for the inspiration and have great adventures :) .
I have none is this on my 1995 Mitsubishi Delica which I am driving around Africa at the moment and I filmed the entire journey. I love this rig👌🏿👊🏿👍🏿
Thanks mate! We'll check out your adventures👍
@@slightadrift Hope you enjoy my journey
Such an inspiring build guys! We both love it and think you did such an amazing job. So many hidden details that make all the difference in a tiny-home. Chris & Ange
Thanks guys. You guys are going well above and beyond what we did so can't wait to see what you come up with! Good times 🤠
I was hoping The OutFit saw this.
What a badass floor plan. Killer features and great use of space!! Love the movie mode too. The plants do wonders. Super sweet!!
The best vehicles, machines and I were 50's made!
What else could be better than cruising around in your mog surfing and just exploring having a good time. Don’t ever loose faith in that journey because it’s the ultimate 🙌🏻
Very wise words 😊
Loved it guys! Absolutely incredible build. You two should be so proud. Mogs has the coolest features all put together so well. Coolest rig we’ve seen.
Loved the edit at the start too! ✌️😊

Tymon /Bex .It's been great watching the progress of your build .You've put alot of thought into the build, and done everything to such a high standard .Wine cellar could do with a nice kiwi sauvignon blanc .Safe travels .
Hey Guys. Very impressive set up. The layout and construction is commendable ! Thank you for sharing your impressive Unimog.
Thanks for the positive comment rob! 👍
What is it with kiwis living in Australia and awesome mogs 😂
Bloody amazing build guys, you should be very proud. It’s a stunning build, love all the details
Love the deck
Nice conversion, I will take some ideas for when I start to build our own. I am starting with an Isuzu single cab, currently 2wd and it has a freezer on the back that is 4.9 enters long inside. It has been sitting in Perth for the whole of the pandemic and I live in regional Victoria. Waiting Waiting. I will definitely use some of I have seen work in your conversion. Esp. your kitchen and outside storage. Golden!
Great build, love the deck, extends the internal space, very nice set up 👍
Thanks! 👍
I love Unimog rvs but this one is the best have seen so far, nice guys and much love from Kenya
Wow Kenya! Greetings from Australia! Thanks for the kind words 👍
genius setup. what an awesome home you two have created. I love your home entertainment cherry on top. very clever craftmanship. the open design ideas are inexpensive and very desirable. the hand pressed esspresso is a nice touch. you two are what the WORLD NEEDS as (influencers)
Very kind words. Thankyou so much
What a great build. You csn tell you put a lot of thought into designing it to fit your life.
Yeah David, that's the beauty of a custom build... It ends up being perfect for your particular life! Thanks for watching mate 👍
Well laid out Mate, One of the better ones I have seen for the space available.
Cheers 🤜🍻 Thanks for watching!!
Per day...😁😁😁
Well done guys, great build!
Thanks mate!
Thanks for the tour, want to build a similar truck, but then in a smaller and more lightweight version. Have fun with the beautiful rig! Greetings from the Netherlands
Good luck with your build! Greetings from Australia 👍
We love it😍 But you knew that already ;)
Such a great build! Can't wait to see your sail boat😇
Cheers guys! Oooh yeah boatie Mc Boatface coming soon! So excited
@@slightadrift so does that mean that the Mog is to be sold?
Barry Wilson.... yeah bud you want to buy him?
@@slightadrift sorry I couldn't afford him and I'm in England.
Good luck with the sale.

Great video?tour - well-edited - Hell of a build.
charge drawer - brilliant.
big sink - all day long
gate hinge - great idea
Deck - OMG
Nice windows
Thats' a proper home on wheels
Thanks Terry! 👍
@@slightadrift I went the other way. From a van to a more offroad Hilux/Tacoma with an Alu-Cab Canopy Camper to be more offroad capable - lighter (by 1,500 lbs - Shorter by 2 feet for my trip to South America. & more steathy and able to maneuver the tight roads on Latin american towns & cities.
If I would be doing Austrailia for a couple years - I would love your rig. Contact me in 3 years when you tire of it and sell it to me so I can do just that. ( after my SA triip-:)
That InMognito /stealth. lol , Lookin good .Later from Texas ,usa.
She’s a beauty. Truck’s not bad either 😉
Saw your truck parked across the road from my place at first bay Coolum last week. Nice one 😁
Haha awesome! Yeah for an army truck he definitely doesn't blend in!
I’m here from gumtree
Have you taken it through a maccas drivethru yet?🤣
You 2 have done an amazing job :) ! Should add rain capture off roof and winner well oven
Thanks mate! Great idea! We considered it but never got around to it. Have a good one 😋
Great build! One thing - the vent fan on top, it looks like it should be turned 180 degrees. But if it has not caused you any problems then no need to change it.
Good spotting Jai! Yeah it needed to be that way to fit everything else in. I was worried about it initially but it was absolutely fine... Even the times we forgot to put it down 🙄😋
Fabulous build really like the room design! I would interested in the weight of the build?
Thx and greetings from Germany
Very nice guys I really enjoyed it and thanks for sharing it. I have a question about your windows, do you have a video about them? Did you make them or were they ready made?
We had our windows custom made by uptons so they were the prefect size. Have a look thru our videos of the build and you'll see the install 👍
This really is the best self-build box truck i have ever seen, maybe it's more of a personal preference, anyway I love it so much❤ also what a lovely couple you guys, living the life just as you wanted, the positive energy and the satisfaction and happiness from living with the nature and ocean... so jealous😊, it has make me realise i must push myself harder, my motivation just boosted after watching your video!
Question, what's the cost for building this beautiful home on wheels, if you don't mind telling!?
Hey katarinia! He cost about 110k, AUD obviously. I think it was about that, it was a while ago. And about 4 months to build. Glad you got some inspiration from it👍
Tymon
Hey legends
Mogly is amazing we love it there are some super cool ideas in there 😃 can I ask what type of window the concertina window is besides your bed and the fly screen on the rear door
Happy travels
used a company in melbourne i believe called uptons.com.au
Thanks for watching!! 🍻🤜
Is that a commercial box truck body you have on the truck? Did it come with doors? I’m looking at both, commercial and military boxes.
Love the entertainment center setup and the deck!
Just a pantech box... I would think a military box would just be a perfectly sized container? Might be a bit heavier?
Pretty amazing build you guys have. I miss the mogs they were so much better than the trucks we have now. What mattress are you guys using and what are the dimensions of the body? Is it just the standard tray?
2.5 x 4.5 x 2.5. We had the tray lengthened a little too make it 4.5. We had a guy make our mattresses so they were comfy as! 👍
Awesome series guys. One question, did you guys get Mogs registered as a truck or as a motor home?
Initially as a truck then once we jumped thru all the hoops we needed to we registered it as a motorhome and only had to pay half as much rego!
I would like to find out if you built the box on the back of your Cab Chasis and if you did would you have a video of your build step by step from start to finish and how long did it take to build??
Hey mate, I got it (the box /pantech/ shell) built by a truck builder and got ripped off in the process. Cost me 14k and it was quite heavy
If I had to do it again is just either buy the fibreglass panels or even do the fibreglassing myself. Lighter and better insulation 👍
Great build. Who made the folding window?
Uptons.com.au
i believe that was them 👍
Jacksy tap😂
Love your work! Just curious whats the fuel economy on your mog with current setup?
The mog is sold bud... Never found out what the fuel was... But it was lots
Turbocharged, diesel Mercedes four wheel drive with a ?sunroof!
love it!
some thing not mentioned like the bifold window, is that a purchase or did you design and build it yourself?
thanks, if it is a purchase can you provide a link or at least a brand name?
thanks!
Hey there. I used
Uptons.com.au
They were great... But heavy 👍
@@slightadrift that link just takes me to a dry cleaning website
Haha sorry... Talk about spam
Try this one
uptons.net.au/product/aluminium-bifold-windows/
Which one is comfortable to drive, hilux or unimog. I m trying to decide to buy pick up or unimog😊
Well, our hilux is old but a newer one would be more comfortable. But the mog is way more of a beast.... If you need it 😊
if you dont mind me asking, how much did you end up spending on the camper? regards from switzerland!!
We will do a full video on $$$ in the future bud. Stay tuned 😊👍
Do you have a video or link to the costs associated with this build? I would love one of these! I am retired and will be traveling fulltime outside of the US (my home country) now that I've finished going to all the states.
#026 How much did he cost? 💰
czcams.com/video/GBQroUFQgKc/video.html
Check that one out mate 👍
All nice, great setup to enjoy freedom and life, stay, in touch with nature but... 🤔 Problems with plants, serial houseplants accumulators? Even in the bathroom!
One of the first things all the other unimog owners do is soundproof the cabin. I don't recall you guys doing that?
Na we haven't done that. Good idea tho. I drive with noise canceling headphones on 👍
@@slightadrift Look at another Aussie couples channel - called "The OutFit" to see what they did for noise deadening and it seems to have worked. Also check out "Thabo and the Unimog" channel - he did sound deadening too.
Will do bud!
@@slightadrift 😂
I’ve your layout. What is the dimensions of box? Also what brand of windows did you use?
Thanks mate! Box is 2.5H x 2.4W x 4.5 and we used uptons for our windows 👍
I’ve never heard them called “Mohgs” and I say that coming from a military family. “Mogs” yes
Hey Fu! Our truck is called "mowgli" like off the jungle book. Affectionately know as "mowgs". Thanks for watching!
@@slightadrift ahhh.
66 gallons a week? Wow, I use aporox. 3-5 per by myself...
Hello what's the bed called so I can buy it.
Where do you keep your two-man deep sea diving bell ?
In the butlers pantry 😉
@@slightadrift I hope all this gear gets you closure to nature and at one with yourselves.
How did you support the deck?
Deck is hinge welded to the tray then just supported by those two side ropes you can see 👍
The Mogs are rated for a total of 24000g - 6500 basic Mog, 5500 in the back and can tow 12000. I don't believe you can tow 20000 with them. That is how mine is placarded. Also, your Jerry cans of fuel, are you aware that diesel lasts between 6 months to a year before it no longer becomes use-able. You need to be cycling through so it doesn't go bad
Oh right! Yeah we know the diesel is bad now... We just haven't gotten around to getting rid of it. Thanks for watching ric!
I drove one from Sydney to Coonabarabran for a mate as he didn't have an MR licences.
One thing about the Job is your not going to get booked for speeding
I think I got 95 flat out.
I like the engine brake, got all the way from Clarence down to Lithgow without using the brakes.
Oh and what luxury a snipers hatch
I forgot to mention 21litres per 100klms
I have a unimog u5000. Want to sale it. Any tips
Not really mate sorry
How much does a tank cost to fill up?
At the moment.... About just under $200 for a full tank
thats a great weapon 😍 how much it cost ? $$$$$
Cheers! $$$ coming in a future video 👍
@@slightadrift I can be there in 1 hour I bring the Check book
