  • Here I go over flathead dist timing, conversion to crab cap and vacuum brake issues. I remove retard disc to eliminate erratic timing.
Link to technical specs.....lots of excellent info on this site/page:

Thanks Oly! It was all trial and error....I've got an idea on how to improve the curve and make it adjustable depending on application. I'll be doing a video on it....

You forgot the brass ring that goes on top the shaft.

A stainless spacer was there and that's what went back on...thanks for your input...

Eliminating this plate, with this eliminate the need for the vacuum brake that comes off the intake and down into the timing cover?

Yes...The brake is to retard or prevent advance on acceleration to remedy detonation. But with today's modern fuels the detonation is not an issue. You need that advance on acceleration and that plate causes erratic timing. I bent the tabs in and removed the plate. Now mechanical advance is nice and smooth. You want advance immediately off idle all in by 2-2.5k rpm with overall timing @23deg.

@@piewagn okay cool I'm beginning to understand. So what keeps the weights from flying out of control?

@@JDvintagemi There are stops that allow the weights to go only so far...
