Good explanation, I’ve been a boundary surveyor and coal mining surveyor. We would use fluorescent orange, we would put hack marks with a machete on the tree and then spray the marks. Two marks boundary line, three marks boundary corner you can tell you been down here in Wv. Good teaching video.
Thank you for the information. Very useful, I want to say thank you for being awesome people at the bunion show. You all letting us sit in the tent with you guys and stump jumper on Friday then we went out to eat. Sorry I just up and left but I was actually getting sick and did not realize it till then. I have 4 weeks of recovery left from an emergency surgery that occurred 3 weeks ago so I have been watching a lot of your videos to pass time for the knowledge and know how. Once again thank you!
Nice job informing others. Professor Pete. I always like the foresters that mark dots on one side then the next one on the other and you spend your day looking for dots

Great vidja , explanation one mark you should add is an arrow pointing up the tree meaning there's a widowmaker in it. You should be looking over the tree before you cut anyway but just to give precaution foresters or whoever is marking will put an arrow up
With our harvest color meant as much as anything. Blue was property border, red meant interior boundaries, purple marked a riparian zone alongside the crick and trees with orange were to be cut. I think that pretty consistent in our area.
The one county we have cut in uses yellow, the reason why I was told was they had a processor operator that was colour blind and he could see yellow. I like FL orange and FL pink
I have a mixture blazes and rings for boundaries on my property. Seems to mixed among foresters between rings and slashes. Big money if the tree is numbered.
Pete… that makes perfect sense to me. But, I have one I haven’t figured out for sure. What about those trees that have a wet base and dry above. Normally discovered as your neighbors dog walks out of your timber. Does that also mean boundary marked?
I use orange and red alot of the time because i work alot in the winter months. Because summer month's normally due to wildfire the bc wildfire services and provincial government prohibit cutting and found those two colors work great. But i do agree with u nuts 319 normally i don't recommend those colors u mentioned either cause yah not alway's easy to see.
Complicated markings - have you ever marked a block that was already marked by another cutter and the owner was just getting a second opinion on the value of the timber. Cheers
@@nuts319 I mark ours with black paint because it shows the least. But it is sure hard to locate in the winter sometimes. Our local utilities use baby blue. 1 dot is trim and X is a removal.
central Pennsylvania here. guy logged ours used some pink circles not dots but o's near the property line i was wondering if it meant over the line but i dont think it is over. only on 2 smaller beech trees. any idea what it means?
Come on it would help stop that virus tree herpes on my arm. No just be safe it sucks. You better get out muskie hunting, daves son has had follow ups 3 times on those Lures, they love little dogs. I heard back in day they used small ducks. Only at HAATS LURES HA HA LOK
Good explanation thanks for sharing.

Did they ever harvest from the riparian zones? Is it a seasonal flooding label as well as a stream border zone?
Up here they mostly use orange for boundary. 3 strips property change and 2 strips for sale boundary. Good video.

Thanks for doing what you do. Maybe one of theses day we might be able to work together.

We see a lot of Blue paint come in.
I'm a timber cutter in ky and I like to use letters for Mark's on the tree because I'm color blind easier for me to see it
Go information!

I jest did a sale and it had 2 strip marks all over . It had SMZ marked that were not relevant to the sale. I wasn’t sure how that could be.
All the time I just use a different color than they used
I kinda wanted you to paint Fred... 😆
Won’t lie to you there’s a few times I’d like to paint him to
Should be marked the same world wide...It would sure end alot of confusion!
Yes!
