    In this video, The Ambiguously Gun Duo tests out many common .223 Remington and 5.56x45 rounds against an AR500 steel plate. Also going up against the AR 500 steel target are 7.62x39 and 5.45x39 7N6.
    Many matches ban the use of ammunition with steel jackets. Almost all steel-cased 223 ammo has what is referred to as a bi-metal jacket. Bimetal is just a marketing term meaning a mild steel jacket that is washed in copper, in lieu of the traditional copper jacket. We test Tula 223 55gr and Wolf 7.62x39 123gr ammo using these steel jacketed bullets.
    Also, we test Wolf Gold .223, which is imported from Taiwan and produced there for the Wolf company by the same plant that makes M193 for the Taiwanese military. Unlike Wolf's steel cased ammo imported from former com-bloc countries, Wolf Gold is brass cased and uses lead core, copper jacketed bullets. It seems very similar to real-deal M193 in many respects, and we compare Wolf Gold 223 to M193.
    It wouldn't be an ammo test without some steel core ammo, so we include the dreaded 62gr M855 5.56 and 53gr 5.45 7N6 rounds.
    And finally, to contrast these rounds we also send some 75gr and 69gr match ammo downrange. Everything gets sent from 200, 100, and finally 50 yards.

    So M193 was shot out of a 20" barrel and was stopped by AR500 plate at all distances from 200 yards down to 50 yards. I guess I feel pretty confident with my Spartan Armor level III plate.
    And M855 to 100 yards.
    In a SHTF situation I dont intend to let anyone closer than 100 yards. What's your thoughts?

      Oh yeah, for body armor it's fine as long as you have some kind of spall protection.

      @@ShadetreeArmorer yes, I bought the plates with full coat on them. I am thinking of purchasing level IV plates due to being lighter. These plates weight 9#11oz. Almost 20# for a set.
      Thanks for this video. I was doing research and finally found your video.

      I'd say get yourself a decent plate that can block up to 7.62 NATO. You never know what might happen in a combat scenario.

      M193 will punch ar500 level 3 plates from a 16 inch barrel you need level 3+ remember it’s only 1/4 inch thick on armor plates

    Have you chronographed the wolf gold and the M193?

      Most people say wolf gold is actual M193 but they have to say 223 for import purpose I have wolf gold lake city XM193 and even full power CBC M193 from 2009 and honesty they all feel the same but wolf gold just seems so consistent

    Target thickness?

    • @ShadetreeArmorer
      @ShadetreeArmorer  Před 6 lety

      3/8", but it doesn't matter for 223 if you go to 1/2". The divots are the problem, not any actual penetration.
