Star wars and dune are just a cinematic inspirations. The movie is inspired from Kalki Purana, which is an ancient Indian text describing the last avatar of Lord Vishnu - kalki you will come at the end of Kali Yug to save the world. It is written that Ashwaththama, Kalkis guru played by amitab bacchan is waiting for Kalkis arrival for eons. He passes on all his knowledge to Kalki. Kakli then worships Lord shiva who blesses him with Devdatta - a horse and a parrot represented by the futuristic car and robot that talks with an fun attitude. When you get all these contexts it just gets 100X more amazing.
Kalki and kali is the real persons from future 2898.
Kalki is the saviour and
Kali is the destroyer.

4:56, the movie was in production for over 5 years or so. So im pretty sure dune wasnt in picture . But the director acknowledged the star wars influence
true, but the Dune book came out in 1965 before Star Wars, and Star Wars is veryyyy inspired by Dune but so are a lottt of modern sci-fi stories and stories in general

I'm not saying this has anything inspired by the Dune movie's visuals, I'm just pointing out some possible similarities which could easily happen on accident as well. Since there's a lot of things out there which actually reference the Dune books without even knowing that's where things originated. No doubt Kalki 2898 looks extremely original and I'm excited to see how they blend Hindu mythology with futuristic sci-fi elements

Dune, star wars, C3Po, bb8 all that is fine.. But this teaser strongly reminded me of an indian movie called Cargo starring Vikrant massey and Shweta tripathi. That movie had similar aesthetic and retro futuristic vibe. It unfortunately didn't do well but it was a good story. Its on netflix.

Its like this movie finally got the itching imagination i once thought....what if there was a depiction of a dystopian sci fi world but set in India in the far future. So far nobody did it till now.
There is one Bollywood example that kinda tried the future sci fi setting but it didn't work at the time....called "Love Story 2050" featuring Priyanka Chopra.
