Thank you for this great series on drum scanning, Tony! I hope you'll share more in the future. Also, I have to compliment you on your setup, that cabinet solution looks so good! 🔥
It's nice that you are already working with your scanner, there is no better way to digitize our slides. I am excited to see how your system or workflow will continue, I only know my way around with my tangos. Cheers, Seb
Your experience is very similar to what I went through getting in to drum scanning using a Scanmate 5000. On the topic of SCSI cards, for people who want to get an older PCI based card working in a more modern computer with only PCI Express slots it's worth considering using an adapter. There are many affordable options which might work. For me I got an old 90s Adaptec card working using the adapter in a modern PC. How I wish I could find a mounting station as an affordable price but alas, I guess these are fully in the realm of DIY if you aren't using a popular brand like Howtek.
Hi! about windows XP file size limitation, is it possible to scan the film in small sections and then merge them in windows 10 to get a huge photo? I think that would be amazing!
That’s a great idea! Yes. You could scan smaller sections of the photo and merge them together on a modern computer to make a “super” high-res image. Thanks for watching!😎
I just purchased a Howtek 4500 with DPL. Can I ask you if when scanning you try to get a very flat image that you then tweak in PS, or if you try to set the levels roughly first in Silverfast?
Great question. I use Silverfast to obtain a very basic scan that holds the highlight and shadow information as much as possible. I scan all of my film as a color positive, then tweak in Photoshop. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
Look at that lighting 🤌🏽!
Thanks Ryan!

I have a dongle and probably the DPL 7 version for sale used on a Howtek 4000….
Hi Bert. I'm not sure that will work on the 6500. Thanks for stopping by the channel.
