Sometimes i feel that kaeya and i have far too much in common for brothers who aren’t even blood related.
Perhaps that’s why i avoided alcohol for the longest time. Knowing that i would lean into it...that i would become just like him.

K: it’s dark down here.
Master Diluc, You should have taken a candle with you before you slunk down here
D: …
K: it’s alright though. Starling, do hold this for me, will you? I’ll go fetch a matchstick.
D: there’s no need. *thanos snaps fingers*
*candle lights up*
K: very convenient. Thank you, master diluc.
D: go away, kaeya. Father didn’t make a mansion of this size for all three of us to be squeezed in this cellar.
K: and you wouldn’t mind if i took starling with me, now would you?
D: i wouldn’t.
K: fine, let’s go then.
[[footsteps start, but falter]]
K: ah, master diluc, your face changed.
It was a small change, almost imperceptible, but i saw it when the candle flickered…
For a second there you aged a hundred years…
D: …are you done with your dross? I thought you promised me peace tonight.
K: yes, quite, but i only said i wanted to take the listener to mess with you. The truth is, you want their presence, don’t you? You don’t truly want to be alone, Master Diluc. Not after everything that happened earlier today.
D: you promised that you wouldn’t mention that anymore tonight. A liar and a cheat as always.
K: it’s in my nature, and for that i apologize, though that must mean nothing to you.
D: an apology from a liar is like smoke from a prop gun.
[[silence]]
K: *sigh*
We are worried
I sent listener down here to check on you.
I started pacing upstairs, but couldn’t shake the nervous edge off myself. So i caved and came down anyway.
D: [[cynical]] worry.
K: master diluc, blood is seeping through the bandages. Is that why you prefer to hide in this dark corner? So that no one, not even you, will have to admit how badly wounded you are?
D: …
K: i’m not here for ripostes. Please let the starling check on you.
D: …fine.
[[rustling of bandages. A scowling sound, but begrudging]]
[[silence]]
K: there. That wasn’t too hard, now was it?
D: thank you, starling.
*drinks*
[[you apologize]]
D: ah. No. You don’t need to apologize for getting me into alcohol. I don’t normally end up like this. And most of the time, I can very much control myself. Better than alberich can.
K: that’s fair. Say whatever makes you feel better while you recover.
D: *tired of his sht sfx*
[[listener speaks]]
D: starling, it’s ok. It wasn’t your fault. We weren’t expecting the rain to come down so hard when we went on that walk. We weren’t expecting a fatui ambush. And i wasn’t expecting to…see those things.
D: If anything, i should be sorry. I even…held a knife up to your throat. If alberich hadn’t been there, i…
K: but i was there. The starling was very kind to invite me, and for now i should like to stay invited to anything that involves you being around them, master diluc.
D: that’s fair. They would be safer like that. But it’s only a temporary arrangement, you understand?
K: of course. Here to the favonius headquarters is a tedious journey each morning, i wouldn’t want to stay forever either. But for now i have to. And for you, it’s time to look back on those antipsychotics don’t you think.
