Blacks in Russia are mostly university students so they are perceived somewhat differently from the West. Most Russians, especially the older ones have notion that they are highly educated and skilled. Also because racial discrimination is highly forbidden in Soviet doctrine whereas it was still institutionalized in most of the west during the 20th century.

Pushkin, the greatest Russian poet, was the grandson of a black slave. That is deeply engraved in Russian collective psyche and therefore blacks are seldom seen with fear or disdain. You're right in that in Soviet times most blacks in Moscow were students at the Patrice Lumumba University and obviously highly educated people. But nowadays, for younger Russians, most blacks are associated with models, actresses or sportsmen.
On the other hand, there's racism in Russia, but mainly directed to migrant workers from Central Asia or, in some cases, people from the Caucasus, which is still associated with the Chechnian War by some old and middle-aged Russians.

We can joke about the color of your skin, but this does not mean that we despise you or consider you below us. We have an Orthodox culture, it is customary for us to treat people who are different from us well. But we have a very bad attitude towards foreigners who are aggressive towards us. Girl I get stared at like that in America since I was young! They say I have an exotic look and trying to figure out what ethnicity I am. So that’s probably why they’re staring at you! You are beautiful take it as a compliment ❤

It is 2023- You are a very pretty young lady, so just take it as a compliment. You are probably correct- they have never seen a black person. I am an old lady now. No one has ever wanted to take a picture of me. (ja, ja) So, one day when your beauty fades you will miss these times. (ja, ja) Be blessed, young lady.

Funny, I have been to Ghana once.
Similar experience. For some strange reason all of the people were staring at me too. I especially "suffered" from it when I would go away from Accra to the countryside and there ALL the kids and the old folks would just STARE at me and actually want to touch me. I wonder why... They did not try to convince to take a pic of me though. May be that was because too few of them had a camera or a smartphone, or may be because I am not a pretty and exotic looking GIRL (like you).
When I was in Jamaica, too. Since I was there in mostly out of the beaten (touristy) path areas, people did tend (for seemingly no apparent reason) to stare at me quite a bit, especially when my Jamaican born wife WAS in "the picture"...
I simply think that people of all races are always curious about the opposites, obviously I do know why they did it, and so should you.
You can't blame them for doing that. You(!) are probably the first black girl they ever see (as you may have noticed that most of the black people you see in Russia are men) and it is you are the one who is infringing on the (Russian) territory, so you are the Fonzie here. Deal with it girlfriend. There are many people who would give up a kidney to get half the attention you are getting there.
It is not as bad to be a head-turner (for others) as you make us think it is :)

We simply admire beauty. We live in beautiful cities, we have beautiful nature. Our people take care of themselves. This is why we see and admire.
It is the stupid modern laws of the West that have decided that looking at a woman is sexually harassing her. Looking at a woman is looking at a woman. That's all. Why are they so beautiful, why do they dress, put on makeup, take care of their bodies, if you can’t look at them?
Black, white, yellow, red, what's the difference? Beautiful = beautiful.
In India they took pictures with me right on the street. Constantly, everything.
Like I'm not an ordinary person, but a rock star

I watch a lot of these types of videos from Black American ex-pats, and I have to say as a Black Brit myself there seems to be a lot of romanticising of Europe and Europeans. There is just as much racism in Europe as there is in America. However, there is innate privilege to being a black American in Europe as opposed to someone from say, subsaharan Africa . I'm glad that you are happy and safe though.

"Xenophobia" is the term that denotes automatic hatred against everyone and everything, even for no reason, and that's sick. ... The term "racism" is poorly translated, and its meaning is distorted in today's scientific field of language. A racist is someone who defends his own race. Someone who wants to preserve the characteristics, culture and customs of their race or ethnicity that comes from this race. A racist can be both a white and a black and a yellow and a red and a brown person. Anyone can be racist if they want the environment they're used to to be preserved and not assimilated by another culture. I have no problem with any race on the planet. Nor with ethnicity, religion or culture. I am Slavic, I am Slovak, I am white and I want my culture to be preserved as in the last 1000 years. If I am a racist peacefully defending my nation and ethnicity, that is good because it is a legitimate reason. ... If I hate someone or something for no reason, then this is a mental defect. And this defect can be as white as black or Asian. ... Europeans ' opposition to Muslims or Africans, in my opinion, is conditioned by cultural differences and the natural aggressiveness of these ethnicities because of living in a violent environment.

@shushanna1986 I’m Russian but my childhood was in regions:Mari El and Tatarstan(there are a lot of local nation people), I had some racism there too, but not a lot I guess it’s okay in childhood 🤷‍♀️ Cause children trying to find anything they can use for blame: one time I was blamed for nose, next time in different ages for skin problems , so it’s not really a racism, that’s childish and that’s from all nations in our country no matter you black or white or Asian 🙄

I just finished watching a video with about 10 different white women living Japan who said people try to take pictures with them all the time.
Also, my wife is a black Dominican woman and she immigrated from the DR, when she sees white children with blonde hair and blue eyes she stares at them like they’re an angel or something. I have to tell her to stop.
