- One of the standout vehicles at the 2021 Auburn Cord Duesenberg Festival was the impeccably-restored 1937 Cord 812 Phaeton once owned by American aviator Amelia Earhart. It was a fitting vehicle for the 65th Annual festival given its theme, "Celebrating Women Behind the Wheel". This Cord 812 became famous because it was in her publicity shots in front of her Lockheed Electra 10E Special. Jack & Laura Smith of Elkhart, Indiana are the current owners of the vehicle.
It's a self propelled piece of art! As an engineer I wonder how they have built this to this level of perfection with complicated steel panels and body lines back in 30's without any form of computing power when manufacturing
Not to mention that front wheel drive setup.
Beautiful car! Back in my 30’s I worked for Mr.Cord’s son in Los. Angeles. A very nice man and family.
So happy to see Amelias engine in Amelias car! Glad it has found a new home since Mr. Foster reunited the pieces.
Fabulous fabulous car with an exceptional provenance, I would love to own it
I’ve caught pieces of the history on this Cord. To find most of the original parts to finish the rebuild of rolling art is just amazing! Amelia acquired this vehicle not long before she disappeared. I hope maybe one day we will have the answer to her disappearance.
Magnificent work of art.
Stunning!
An internet search claims she and her husband bought the car in September of 1936. She disappeared in July 1937
A real piece of art
Absolutely right!
Amelia had guts and taste just like this car some saw her as a plane Jane but to me she was real sassy and sweet!
Фантастический автомобиль !!!
Show up to cruise night in this bad boy and it says yeah I got taste and style. 😊
The woman had good taste.
Did someone check the trunk, just to make sure she's not there ?
When things were built in America 🇺🇸
She must have been a very wealthy lady.
She's in the trunk
