The chances of you seeing this comment is slim. But I needed to post it.
My friend Claire.... you met her this year in Brisbane. A lovely 24 year old who adored your music to her core. She passed away two weeks ago after a long battle. I've not been able process it yet, but just then, as I watched this, I felt an amazing sense of joy that Claire is no longer in pain.
Your music touched her and helped her on her journey. I only wish she'd have had more time to hear this one ❤Whilst I was always a massive fan of yours, for also helping me on my health journey, today it connected with me on such a deep level that I'll never ever forget.

I heard you the first time on the radio singing "Mary Did You Know". My husband passed away November of 2019 so, it was the Christmas of 2018. My husband and I were delivering wholesale candy to the resorts around the Phoenix area. He loved changing the stations of the radio. When I heard even one note I would say,"Leave it there, leave it there!". You guys make music heavenly, truly awesome. The harmonies haunte they shoot straight through someone's heart.

Yes often the others are more recognized, even though as "under dogs" of the group since scott sometime is seen as the lead singer and obvious. But actually that way kinda makes Scott a underdog and might make him being less acclaimed. Also in "Come along" and "waving through a window" you can hear is great vocal range.

Crazy how Avi is able to sing such low notes like if it was child's play. You could clearly see that Scott has a harder time hitting the bass notes, moving his head and stuff, but it's still very impressive how he's able to do it. Bro has crazy range

It's acting, unfortunately, as they're all lip syncing for this performance. I hate to say it, and I don't want to believe it, but facts are facts. It's Avi's bass line they're using from the studio version, and they're all lip-syncing - just watch Scott's bass line, it starts when his mouth is closed 😪 They re-recorded Scott's intro but the rest is identical to the studio version
Still, we thank PTX for this arrangement and for providing a live performance of it, even though it is lip synced

To all the people who think they're lip syncing you are completely wrong Scott changed his part with a bit of vibrato in a couple of places and his voice goes raspy at 03:22 I have seen them live and seen Scott cover the bass on Standing By which Avi sings the lead on. They are amazing better than any other singers I have ever heard sheer vocal beauty.

Specifically, the Up On the Housetop performance.
It's sort-of give and take. There are moments when they're undoubtedly live, like when they switch from person to person that has their own specific verse. Scott, Avi, Kirstie, and Mitch each sang live (at least for their start). The chorus and in-betweens I believe were lip synced along with most of the A Capella beat. The end/climax is also live. I'd say it's equal parts live as it is lip synced.

They are killing it because they are layering in pre-recorded backing vocal tracks just like they did on the recorded version. Avi's voice is uniquely identifiable and while Scott did some good lip-synching his voice in it's lowest registers, just doesn't have the bone chilling heft of Avi's. MOST of the singing was live, but where the sound swelled out so "next level" there was some recorded backing vocals that sounded note for note identical to the recorded version. That's because they WERE the recorded version. Don't get me wrong, I love Pentatonix. But come on people , be real here. They are great but nobody can sing two, three, or four tracks simultaneously. It's still a great performance.
Are you a singer? Are you a musician? Didn't think so. There is no "lip-syncing" in this performance. They ARE an acapella group and RELY on their incredible vocals to perform. I am a singer and musician. You can CLEARLY HEAR that this version is not the recorded version, it has far too many variations. Your post should have been just your LAST TWO words. Have a nice day =]

"Scott couldn't do those bass notes because he doesn't have that range." Actually, he does, and whenever Avi has solos in any other songs, Scott takes over.
"It sounds too perfect." Highly possible that due to a combination of great mic balance (usually absent from their live performances, excluding their concerts of course), maybe a little tweaking/sharpening to make it prime-time TV ready, and pure talent, it sounds perfect. No reason to assume it was lip-synced though.
"Kevin's stomps don't match the sound." Kevin is an amazing beatboxer and in this case, the stomps were most like used for visual effect. He really only needs his vocal chords. Go watch their performance of Aha (there are many live versions available on CZcams too)- he does an extremely complicated and fast beatbox sequence with nothing except his mouth.

"They were over-dramatising their singing." Is that even a valid argument? They're singers, and they're singing with emotion.
Besides, you can hear them take audible breaths that match their movement on camera. I'm not completely denying the possibility that it could be lip-synced. I'm just saying that the above arguments aren't valid, and that I highly doubt it was.

If you look at some comments above you can tell some parts were clearly lip synced, it's mainly because of the major prime-time TV setting but theres no denying it.

I know a lot of people don't fully understand the lyrics, but I remember reading Hozier's interview about what his meaning behind it was and how I felt the lyrics were interpreted to myself. Being that he doesn't mean to "forbid" institutions, it's more of the ideal behind them and likeness of other organizations that can make you lose yourself due to it being "bad". But that song wouldn't be a "politically correct" song for Pentatonix to cover as it is directed towards who you really are or what you enjoy can be shameful or a sin (sex, sexuality, etc). So, my earlier comment about a satire and not going to church, it's like you could do as a dog is told, but you'll be judged and they have tons of their own lies. This was longer than intended... LOL

Hi Carliza, just a very friendly FYI, it's called lip-synching when people synchronize their lips movement to a song but don't actually sing. It's what Milli Vanilli got in trouble for in the early 1990's because someone else was singing/recording their songs but making the public believe it was them by lip-synching pseudo-live performances. It was a huge scandal. LOL!
Anyway, I must agree with you... Pentatonix is EXTREMELY TALENTED and real!!! I'm so glad I found them. I will be looking for more. :-) :-) I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE their cover of Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody and Hallelujah. Absolutely brilliant! :-)

It's definitely Scott. They're open about adding some production elements to the official release of some of their songs, but they stress that all songs are arranged to be sung live. So Scott was always planned to fill in for Avi when Avi sang lead.
That moment when Avi's solo comes up, and you're listening to him kill it, but then you notice the bass and think, "Damn, Avi is killin' that bass line!" And it suddenly clicks.... Holy Shit, it's freakin Scott!!!! Ugh, why are they all so crazy talented like that!
