    Fine and sensible direction. Who is the conductor ?
    Pretty Yende has a true potential and did a lot of progress since the first time I heard her in Puteaux Bellini's competition from where she won the price. But I just regret some bad choice in vocalizing which has not intimate resonance with the inside world of Bellini. Too much notes are not here necessary because it kills the music and the psychology of her character is not enough dramatically studied. I saw her in Paris in Lucia, she was pretty good..

    Incantevole! Secondo me, una 'vera' voce Belliniana! Non capisco i dissensi di alcuni commenti letti!... È così che va interpretato Bellini: non è necessario avere grandissime voci e grandissimi temperamenti... Siamo erroneamente abituati a troppe ed altisonanti 'grandi voci' del passato che, spesso e sovente, hanno generato nella Lirica disastrosi atteggiamenti da 'fuoristrada'! Questa giovanissima interprete possiede una gran voce ed una eccellente personalità musicale: chi non è in grado di capire questo tipo di vocalità, dovrebbe ancora studiare molto e, specialmente, provare ad imparare a studiare Canto Lirico!!!! Salute a tutti.

    Wow people in here are sooo mean! "singers in our time..." yet the only signer you can relate to is Callas and her performance in her prime! Maybe the first time Callas sang this, was way worst than this performance. Maybe that singer was incredibly stressed out to sing in front of all these people one of the most difficult area. Maybe she had a lot of guts to stand tall in front of all you giving those horrible random critics, who didn't even have to press the play button in the first place. I respect her heavily and congratulations, you're on the right path!!

    • @LaDivinaLover
      @LaDivinaLover Před 3 lety +2

      The first time Callas sang this for an actual audience was recorded and is one of the finest renditions available. She’s used as an earmark and measuring stick for other sopranos for a reason. Technically she was sublime both before and after her weight loss. The voice not showing decline until ‘58/‘59. Now, some people may not care for the colour of her voice or her sometimes strident upper register. That’s understandable, that’s personal taste. And Callas herself admitted it wasn’t a traditionally “pretty voice” a la Tebaldi but it was certainly legitimate and effectively used. Her brief career made her a paragon of operatic voice in spite of the severe criticism of her style. A paragon not just of the 20th century but in all of recording history, something which is also not solely my personal opinion. All accolades being well deserved.
      Perhaps had she not had such severe private health problems ( private in that it was not publicly admitted until after she died. Both A soft tissues disease called dermatomyositis. It effects the vocal cords !especially! as well as the muscles. She also had documented severe heart trouble as early as 1953 ) she would’ve had a much longer career.
      Regardless of Callas, pretending she never existed, Yendi is objectively inadequate here. Sounding like a 3rd year conservatory student. Also, not my sole opinion.
      And to the person who is acting like Callas died over a century ago. It was September of 1977. You very possibly were alive when she died possibly even an adult.
      Either way, one doesn’t need to have listened to Callas to know this sucks.

    Dear Madame Yende you need to rethink this aria. Potentiallly Elvira is there, what is missing now is sadness and melancholia in your voice. In the cavatina the long lines should be more connected, more legato. Listen to Callas, and you will understand what I mean. Also, the cabeletta is to elaborated, it destroyes the lines. Anyway, more is always less. Another thing that you have to chance in your technique is your way of joining notes in your coleratura, like you are yodeling. Our Dutch diva Deutekom did this, that is why in Italy they called her the Dutch yodeling cow.You do not want people to say this about you too I hope. But very impressive singing.What Giavanni De Santis means by understanding is feeling the depts of what she is singing , bringing across the emotions of the text more.Has nothing to do with how many languages you speak.

      Dear Melusi, the singer is pretty fluent in english, IsiZulu (useless in operatic context) and probably in french. For the italian, please try to understand the issue: the pronunciation is average (sorry, I'm mothertongue... no other comments should be provided) but again, this is not the point. The point, to my personal taste, is the disconnection between the sound of the words and the music. There's no reason we couldn't agree on something and still be capable of a civil discussion. Regarding being in touch with her orchestra, I agree that it is not the soloists responsibility to keep up with them. Of course it isn't! Nonetheless, she is overall on her own island here. Likely what would remedy the problem would be if she sang the piece with greater accuracy. There is a limit to the amount of liberty a singer is allowed, particularly with such a high-level piece such as this.
      As far as her breathing goes, it is rather excessive and is therefore proof of lack of vocal control.
      All in all, she seems to be a junior in the field of professional lyric sopranos, and she does not meet the criteria to perform at such a concert.

      Agreed. Her breathing is not placed well, and she isn't in touch with the orchestra.
