- New York City is under curfew this week after the weekend’s protests against police brutality erupted into violent clashes between protesters and police. More than 2000 people have been arrested since they started. It’s the first time a curfew has been implemented across the five boroughs since the second world war.

I give it a little under two weeks now before we get a wave of Covid-19 case. I hope the don't end up in the hospital because those are the ones mostly to die. And in a hospital system that's already in crisis a new sudden influx will kill a lot of people just from lack of needed equipment.

I feel like I’m watching major history, I remember how horrified I was in school to learn how the civil rights protests in the 1950s and 60s were met with fire hoses and dogs. In school then the white people around me acted like we were so much better now and we’d never do anything like it. Mexico is a perfect example of this.. they have a higher crime rate and an increase in corruption because police are more susceptible at accepting bribes and working with criminals instead of against them. Defunding the police helps because cities can reallocate those funds toward other services, programs, etc in marginalized communities. These dollars can go into things like social services for mental health, domestic violence, etc. In these mental health cases, police are the ones called to take action, however they're not qualified to respond to these situations. This money can also be used to fund schools, hospitals, housing, etc. Also data shows that the number of police have declined over the past five years, and the rate of police officers per 1,000 residents has been dropping for two decades. At the same time, the violent crime rate has also dropped, meaning less police less crime. By the way the nypd has a budget of $6 billion.

They’re gonna last at least another week. depends on the outcome of the case. if any of the cops are let free, Im worried the entire country will be burned and looted. It will be even worse. Currently in my state of minnesota the dept of human rights has charged the PD with systematic racism the past tej years and is doing an investigation. First avenue, the teachers union, minneapolis public schools, and a lot more have cut all ties with the police. The city council is looking into completely disbanding the police and replacing it with community outreach. Change is happening, slowly.
I think the fact that people are still on lock down across the country for the most part, will mean they'll last for a while. The Rodney King riots lasted 6 days, so this has already been longer. And we've already seen some impact: LA reduced funding for the LAPD, Philly announced a number of reforms they'd implement, the charges for George Floyd's murderers were both trumped up and applied to all 4 officers involved, and Congress even announced interest in demilitarizing the police.
People have all day to protest. What's wrong with a curfew to stop looters and rioters in the night?
I was there on the bridge with the protesters that day. We weren't "told to turn around and go back to Brooklyn or get arrested". The police did not give us any instructions. We stood at the Manhattan side there for about two hours, and then made a collective decision to go back to Brooklyn, assuming that we would be arrested there if we try to break through there. We thought that it's better to be arrested closer to home, since the march started in Brooklyn, and we thought that it's better not to split up, because then more people are likely to avoid arrest. When we asked the police on the Manhattan side if we will be allowed through on the Brooklyn side, they said: "it's the same on that side as it is on this side". We were told by bike messengers that they are arresting individual people on the Brooklyn side who are trying to get off the bridge. So what Vice said on 6:08 is incorrect. We were allowed to get off the Brooklyn side without anyone getting arrested, but we did not know that was going to be the case a priori.

I completely understand what is happening in today’s climate, but I will say this just because there’s a handful of bad officers does not mean all police are bad and I won’t go into detail but I will say this ......my father is a veteran along with 20 years of service in the ARMY along with (USPHS)-stands for - United States Public Health Service - when he took his life in 2016 Memorial weekend.....every officer, every detective and every person at my parents house that evening were so nice, Respectful and especially wonderful to my mom, who was married to my dad over 30yrs.....I appalled the Fort Worth Tx police officers for that night because that was the worst night of my entire life and they were wonderful and sensitive to our situation. Along with maintaining my fathers memory and respect for himself and his family they made sure we had privacy during this tough time and made sure that we would not end up on the news because they showed up. Say what you will but I have love & respect for the entire department of the Ft. Worth Tx police department.

another man who was also sentenced and making time in the low state to the
supreme court and managed to see To Collat in one of the cells, this man was
of Spanish-American Dominican origin, and belonged to a bargain called the
Trinitarians.
The Spanish-speaking man spoke with the guard in charge, who
was working alone because those who entered the shift had not yet arrived, the
Spanish-Indian said in English: put the handcuffs on that bald man who is in
that cell, give me that knife you have to cut orange and open the cell where he
is, the guard looks at him and says: and why would I do that ?, the sentenced
responds: you want to rise in rank, you want to be made a sergeant, you want to
get that promotion and they increase your salary, of course you want it, then
the African-American guard looking at the sentenced person tells him and after
he has done what you plan to do, the sentenced man replied: you will come and
break my arm, and you will be the hero, the guard He said: break your arm, the
sentenced said: if I break my arm, do not be surprised, I already have it as I
want, and I am in recovery, the guard said: that will hurt you, the sentenced
smiled, saying: that means that you accept, no you worry, I'm under the
influence of drugs, it does not hurt me.
A few minutes later the guard went to the cell where Collat
was, opened the cell, ordered him to put his hands to put the handcuffs, he
began to say aloud, I know what they want to do to me, because Collat came to
see to his enemy, but he acceded to the oppression and command of the guard who
told him to put his hands behind him, put on his back and so the guard put the
handcuffs on collat, and left the cell where he was open collat, gave him the
knife to cut orange to the other sentenced who entered the cell where he was
collat and knifed several times, then left the cell leaving Collat dead
lying on the floor, the guard split the broken arm to the other sentenced,
which had killed collat, everything as they agreed between them, they only saw
the little Machiavellian smirk on their faces for having satisfactorily achieved
their tasks. The alarm went off and other guards came and made the report just
as the guard wanted it to be done. That is called: manipulation of authority
and justice. Another case: at the beginning of 2009 at BareHill correctional
Facility, another murder happened, it happened because of the sergeants,
because of that facility, there was a fight between a young Boricua and an
African-American, the alarm sounded, and that day two white American sergeants
were guarding, the sergeants are the chiefs of the correctional police, the two
sergeants brought the young Boricua from the bedroom where he was being taken
to another place, what they call the box, which is another dormitory but of
cells and there are those who fight between them, the point was that a sergeant
had the bad habit for his personal satisfaction of dislocating the arm to
sentenced prisoners, and had the habit of dislocating several Sometimes, in
what he brought the young Boricua walking from the bedroom where he was to the
box, he purposely dislocated his arm more than 15 times, after it was
dislocated, he went back into his position and then took it out again, That
gave a great satisfaction to that white American sergeant of that young
Boricua, the other sergeant who was with him, only laughed, after they put the
young Boricua in the box, they dislocated his arm again, handcuffed him and
left him locked in the box, without giving him medical attention, three days
later, the young man died, they fixed the medical papers so that none of them
will be indicted, that he served the sentence and be paying his sentence for
that young man, to finish that way , and the sergeant who killed him, who
charged him? Nobody, then was promoted and added to another higher position
with better salary and promoted to work in a prison of maximum security,
because the Penal System did not charge that death to that man, because for
deaths like these there are many people doing a long time in Prison away from
family and friends. This is faults of the penitential system and prison medical
manipulation. Another case is one that came to me greatly, two murders
done to sentenced people, the murders were shot, Barehill correctional facility
has a shooting center right next to where shots are heard at every moment, this
is when they are practicing corrections cops , according to the type of
sentence that the person who is in that facility has a job called "outside
clearance" that means that the sentenced person can work outside the walls
of the prison for the type of minor sentence he has, the correctional police of
That facility has a group of policemen belonging to a brotherhood that are
dedicated to assassinate the sentenced regardless of their case and for this
rules are created between them which use of those convicted without rights.
One of these nefarious rules is that sometimes cats are
found in the area near the facility and if by chance a convicted person touches
or approaches one of those cats, they police use that excuse saying that it
will bring great rage to the other inmates obtained by touching a cat, and they
take the sentenced to the shooting range that is next to the barehill
correctional facility, and they put the prisoner to carry the cat and take
pictures, then the policemen are placed among them joke saying: I buy this gun,
let me premiere it with this prisoner, and among several corrections policemen
they take out their weapons and shoot that prisoner, leaving them clean of any
criminal criminal charge.
So it happened to a white American inmate, but it did not
end there, because this was the friend of another sentenced African-American,
who saw all the abuse, this was an older man and decided to legally denounce
what he saw, but his Friendship and decision of doing justice cost him his
life, because at night he was taken in a minivan outside the prison and killed,
sacrificed for doing good and denouncing the injustice and murders that were
being done in Barehill correctional facility by the security guards . I want to
clarify something, when you are in court and you are sentenced, the first thing
the prosecution wants you to do is to renounce your rights even if you are
illegal, even if you do not have documentation, in this way when you renounce
your rights they are immune to any Situation that happens to you and that you
can blame them And so it happens day after day cases and cases with people who
walked into the criminal system and the system lied to them saying: if you have
been in prison for so long you pay your fault, everything is a lie, they they commit
worse faults day after day and nobody charges them and they do not have to pay
them, you commit a fault and you are charged with many ill-treatment and even
with your life.

1) the curfew is not meant to prevent you from peacefully protesting. You have tons of non-curfew hours to do that
2) when you protest even peacefully in large numbers you are being used by looters and anarchists as cover by diverting resources away from preventing the anarchy and also creating confusion as to who is a peaceful protestor and who’s an anarchist
2) you are not a peaceful protestor if you are trying to provoke a response from the police by abusing them. That includes not obeying the curfew.
3) unless you are complicit or accessories to looting and anarchy, know that breaking curfew you are not peacefully protesting but aiding and abetting the looter, anarchists and arsonists

1. Its called civil disobedience for a reason, you (peacfully) abridge laws that you see as infinging on your rights to make a point.
2. You cant fault the peacful protestors from allowing others to do harm simply for being there. The police dont need to send multiple riot squads to the peaceful protest.
3. "Provoking a response" is kinda how a protest works you are voicing your displeasure with another group by making your presence felt. (In a nonviolent sense) If they didn't it whats the point because it doesn't impact those who they want to hear their message at all.
4. You do not help the looters simply by breaking curfew and that does not make your protest non-peaceful, Its like blaming the crowds at a consert for creating an enviorment for pickpockets.
