Coming from a 17 year old apex enjoyer, honestly theres a lot of better games out there than apex. If you truly love it you wont mind the challenge but compared to other games like fortnite etc the matchmaking doesn't strive towards new players. Apex keeps players in a cycle where you lose a crap ton but right at your breaking point you have a good game and then it repeats all over again to keep you "suffering"

Gen X here, 48 years old and still going strong. I've been playing Apex for a year and returned to computer gaming two years ago. I also play Fortnite with my two teenage sons, and it's great to share this activity with them, even though they are much better than I am.
I enjoy Apex and consider myself an average player. Balancing gaming with a full-time job, kids, a girlfriend, household responsibilities, and sports (football) means my gaming time is limited. Sometimes I miss playing with more mature gamers, but I occasionally meet friendly players in Apex. Thanks for your great videos, Dazs!

64 years old, have been playing Apex, my first FPS game, since season 3 and play it every day. I tried a few others, didn't like them, too much looting, crafting, KB commands. Health problems: back, neck, shoulder, elbow, vision, reflexes, as a consequence of my age. Given my age I don't have much video gaming time left to throw into training, I'd rather enjoy the game, but I've certainly improved my skills. If you agree, I would suggest my CZcams channel, if not, delete the comment.

I'm 29 now. I started gaming at 18, just built a PC, hopped on the 1st free game (Ghost Recon Phantoms) and ended up top 200 globally, playing in both the top two competitive clans (MRN and /V/). At 27 I joined Fortnite, very quickly secured myself as an amazing Zero Build player hitting the highest rank in the first week every season, and placing in Skin Cups and qualifying for cash cups. Now at 29yrs old, I've started learning Builds, and in two seasons I now completed in the FNCS opens (highest tournament) placing top 0.8% in EU. I've just learned of AimLabs and Voltaic and am working towards Jade. I do not feel slow, I do not feel outpaced by 16 yr olds, I feel at my prime honestly, with a lot more ceiling to go.

Honestly I think the biggest thing going against older gamers is that they simply can't sink 6+ hours into grinding the game daily. And not to mention your mental can be so shot by the time you get on the game after work and other life responsibilities. Though I must admit having Solos back in Apex has been a god send; now I can play in peace without having to hear some kid with more ego than skill talking trash from his deathbox half the game.

I compare it to being a musician (which I am myself as well) and we know that professional musician's careers can last a lifetime. But it requires dedication and staying on top of your craft, ect. As for a more physical sport, I mean just look at golf.. you got the champions tour, those guys play well into old age at a pro level. That sport requires unbelievable precision.. One thing you didn't touch on is what the stress of playing a highly competitive game like apex does to you. Maybe it's just me but when I'm in a crazy fight my heart rate spikes and pounds like crazy. The stress causes your sympathetic nervous system (your fight or flight response) to kick in, which over time causes high blood pressure, and eventually could cause a heart attack, stroke, CHF, a pulmonary embolism etc. I'm wondering if we'll see a massive uptick in heart disease in a few years

Going to be 42 this year, and I’ve been playing Apex on and off since season 2-3. My biggest issue with gaming In general (but it’s not a bad thing by any means) is when I starts having kids. My son just turned 4 this year and my daughter will be 3. It’s tough playing competitive gaming with two toddlers let me tell you😓 I wish I could be online more but with work and kids, it’s big challenge. But I think I’ll always be a gamer, just not so much as I used to✊🏽

Most times my little brother would come in first, I would be second, my mom third and most times my dad would have been last funny enough. My little brother used to always sneak up behind my dad and melee him in the back and kill him then my dad would say " fight me like a man from the front" lol my parents never really played video games so controlling the sticks was always confusing. 😂 fun times

  • @Gavlar040378
    @Gavlar040378 Před 23 dny +1

I’m 46 and coming back to Apex after a long lapse….the struggle is real. I only get on once kids are in bed so I maybe get a couple hours a night if I’m lucky, and even then, depends on how awake I’m feeling cos more often than not I’m tired and not at my best in terms of alertness. Apex is a fast game with so many interactions and a high TTK so it does feel very difficult most nights (and matchmaking really does not help as there’s no real “safe” space to gradually ease in and see some real improvements). I still do somewhat have an improvement mindset in Apex and I consume alot of content while I work from from home (yours especially) but as above, putting in meaningful practice is hit and miss. I’m kinda at peace now that I’m never gonna “git gud” at Apex as the needle always moves in terms of skill level - I WILL improve, but not enough to keep up. I just wish the game wasn’t so punishing ALL the time. I seem to always get similarly low skilled teammates and then face very good players (often in 3 stacks) and it’s extremely hard to coordinate 3 randoms of lower skill. I can contribute very effectively on the rare occasion I get some decent teammates who can hold their own and allow me time and space to play around them.

Thank you for discussing a niche but very relevant topic. I have 160hrs in Apex and totally suck at it. Never won a single Trios, ever. I was better at FPS in my younger age playing UT & Quake. But Apex is what clears my mind after a long day at work. I'm mature enough to realize it's about having fun; not min/maxing, following the meta, or win rates.

We'll Dazz, I had been wondering about this myself. I have a few years on you. Still enjoy fps like apex. To give little background. I played pro cs about 23 years ago. And was wondering If i could still keep up, whit the younger lads. I recently kicked it into high diamond in apex. And tho my aim/movement/fliks Are not ,het they used to be, i can still keep. I think a large part of this is due to game sence and expierence. I have noticed that for the most part, my younger pears. Lose sight on whats going on around them, stratagy. Even go into tunnel vision on a current fight. This is a tip for any one that plays competive. Always think a few steps ahead, untill it becomes second nature, might be a bit difficult at first. Since there is so much info to process at any second of apex. But if you stick to it, you'll notice drastic improment over time. And that feeling of outsmarting your openent never gets old. Sorry for rambling on. But wanted to give a view of a older vertran player. That played pro lvl at the very beginning of what was considerd to be pro gaming. Keep up the good work my dude!! We are genuinely poor even if we've improved, but we have a bit of fun and a chat.

I like this has come up as a topic and it's great to see so many responses from folks my age and even older. I've always thought of gaming like other sports. If you want to be 'great' you need to start young and for us older folks gaming didn't exist in its current form 30+ years ago when we were young. I think there are natural talents and exceptions to the rule but generally it's harder when you didn't grow up playing these games.

32 years old, been playing FPS games online since 2002 playing Battlefield 1942 casually and competitively, people around my age and even a bit older were there for the beginning of competitive online FPS gaming, and it became an integral part of our lives, its a culture, and it will always be special to us, and people who think there's some maximum age, or discriminate, are likely just kids who will find out sooner than later when they are 30+ still playing FPS games.

I'm 59 and I still play Apex, which is my favorite game, a few days a week. No, I'm not very good at all but I do have my moments. I've played from late season 1 when Blackout died and needed to find a new game.
I've played games all my life - our house was the first in the neighborhood who's parents bought an Atari system when it came out in the 1970s. Been playing games ever since.

I wouldn't say being old is the problem, its that the younger kids coming into the gaming scene use more of these features that we see as unfair or cheating and refuse to give in to like supergliding for example or neo strafing or kids who will use a cronus so they can get the extra edge to get that top rank, I've always challenged myself in fps games so i understand the urge to do these things but I've never given in to the urges if i can't achieve it through hardwork and dedication I'll simply take a step back and try another approach. But in general apex like fortnite isn't your standard Fps the main focus is shooting yes but their are so many other factors that give you the edge over others who are dead accurate mainly being movement. There's very few scenarios where game knowledge in Apex can outplay someone who can simply out maneuver or out shoot you due to "unfair advantages" the best solution is just to find a more vanilla fps which there aren't many of right now that are decent

Stopped playing for a while and got back into with COD BO1 and played COD until BO4 (quite COD due their monetization practices) and that happened to be when Apex released. I haven't played another game since.

Good video Daz! I’m 30 been playing video games since I was like 8 nonstop even through high school stay up on school night till 4am and go to school and I’m still like that but losing my reaction speed does scare me because I’m a competitive person but it’s weird because I sucked at apex but now I’m way better from me like 5 to 3 years ago I’m 100x better than I was then even tho now I’m 30 but I mean look at guys like summit he’s over 30 and still destroying people In games so idk might just depend on like reps on playing games consistently or taking breaks but taking breaks for me helps me so much if I play a fps like apex and sweaty ranked all the time I’ll start getting worse and worse if I playing for weeks straight but if I take like 3 days off I come back and I don’t miss and I’m at my max level of skill very weird
And I used to be hard stuck D4 but now I’ve hit masters and got pred even tho I would think I would get worse the older I get but I feel like I’m getting better and better

You’re a hero for making this video.
(Disclaimer: This isn’t about me, im not seeking attention and no ‘woe is me stuff’ going on here: I have a good life. I want to back your points because I feel you’re absolutely right: people who’s first fps was Goldeneye need to hear everything you said. I feel the ageism in the apex community can actually be detrimental to mental health)
I’m old as the f word. (I don’t wanna share my age but I am older than you dude. like …. Older.)
I’m decent at the game, actually kinda good, not the best but a lot of teammates that I randomly match up with make fun of me cause my voice is clearly not 20 years old….
I have 2 children and a wife; they are my world. As a lot of comments I’ve seen here, my schedule doesn’t permit anything other than solo queing. Also I’m disabled from a spinal infection 3 years ago. (Disabled as in federal student loans forgiven and handicap parking and mobility devices…. Ive had 5 spinal surgeries.)
These randoms make fun of me until I outperform them and clutch up.
My Surgeon actually tells me to play more Apex. Literally, Actually, those words came out of their mouth. it helps my hands not drop shit all over the house and stay functional. It also helps with severe chronic pain issues.
If I take a week off there is glass everywhere on the floor when I do dishes because my hands lose coordination due to ulnar nerve issues and I drop things. Playing games as you get older can actually help with serious arthritis if, exactly as you said, you work out even just what youre able to and use proper form. Games can actually fight against neuroplasticity.
My point of this obnoxious text-wall is if you’re over whatever age it is that you think disqualifies you from the game please don’t let anyone in this very ageist community tell you you that you’re finished.
(Sorry for going off but I I applaud you for addressing this. It’s very important to people who are part of the accessible community as well and needs to be said.)

I'm 39 atm, and while I don't feel overall too old for FPS (I play Hunt, Arena Breakout Infinite and others that allow for experience, decision making etc to dictate the flow) but I do sometimes feel too old for Apex specifically. As more time passes, and people get better, I see more and more a trend towards erratic, adhd movement, especially with younger people pushing for that style of gameplay and its difficult to keep up vs a 16 year old in the game.

I am born 88' and i play FPS games from 2000s. I really can't say that my skill changed even if i was in doubt multiple times. Month ago i had really bad experience in Apex Legends which forced me start playing one very old game called Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. I played that game from 2004-2019, almost every day (etpro mod). I was adjusting on first day, the second day i realized that i am same player as before. The only problem i saw is that i can't play for more than 4 hours. Which is not strange because i play full time job. Combining gaming with hard work led me to a problem with back pain, last 2 years i was in therapy 4 times.
I still think my cognitive abilities are about the same as before, but i get tired of gaming quickly.

  • @Drinkyoghurt

No server browser means you can't really make friends. The SBMM which puts you with bad teammates means you won't make friends, not being able to chat without getting banned means you won't make friends. Initially I had 20+ friends online in this game, now I have 1 if I'm lucky. I recently joined some ranked games with someone I met a while ago but didn't really stay in touch with. We played ranked (we're all Master level players) and his friend kept dying and blaming me, so after 3 games they left my lobby and found a different third. I just removed him from my friends list because I'm not about this toxic stuff.
Then there's the other issue of SBMM and aim assist/controller players in PC lobbies. I grew up in a time where games required skill. You got stomped on by someone who grinded the game and it made you want to get better to do the same. Learning skills, maps, strats took time and effort. These days most people sit on their beanbag and let aim assist take the wheel for them. There's hardly any skill expression when I'm watching controller clips, just some guy on rails that's getting the computer lock on dialed in. Either way, I'm not about that life, if a 30+ year old can make it to Master as a solo ranked player on MnK, then so should most kids, but everyone wants the rewards these days without putting in the grind.

I’m 42, and I’ve been playing since Season 12. I got to max Prestige recently. Although, I haven’t gotten to the highest ranks because I don’t grind ranked that much, I am usually the one at the end that has to clutch up because my younger counterparts rush in.
Surprising, I haven’t run into serious carpal tunnel issues, maybe soreness once or twice a year. I am usually playing everyday. Unfortunately, I will have to travel soon. But I love playing Apex. And I have always loved playing video games since Atari and NES.

I play at a high level still, i hit the highest rank in most FPS games but i can already feel myself falling behind.
I haven't been able to move away from a default controller because i just cannot get used to, nor do I have the time to learn on the newer controllers with back paddles and stuff. Getting older sucks 😂

Im 39, i dont have great movement but years of CSGO and such gives me a pretty good positioning. I have solid aim and can handle myself well in most situations. I got up to Masters and thats my peak, i dont have the time or energy, patience, etc with work, kids, wife, etc to grind a game to get to that next level.
Age is mostly an issue with the mind. Your priorities change, i mean yes of course some peoples bodies break down but assuming no catastrophic accidents and taking care of yourself most people can stay at the top if they were there before. Perfect example is Fernando Alonso right now in F1. Hes 42 and driving a mid range car, and hes still getting on the podium.
Finally, the muscles crap, lean vs big etc is totally bunk in this regard. Majority of the movement is in your fingers and wrist, where muscle size will have next to no impact. Yes you also move your arm a bit but its minor and not a speed focused aspect. Stick to what you know my guy, anecdotes degrade your argument. This is the fist video of yours i was like "wtf am i watching" some good advice in here for sure, but sprinkled in with bro science and misinformation ruins the whole episode.
