when I was a kid, a local TV station had a contest where kids who wrote in could win a computer. It was to promote the filmation Ghostbusters show. Second place got the ghost command as well as two figures. Third place I think got a figure and the ghost buggy. I got second place prize. This meant a whole lot to me because I was a kid with poor self-esteem and I hardly want anything. It was the last year before I stopped playing with toys all and all and I loved it. Those toys were well made and I wish I still had them.

Boy, you could had gotten lots of money from the Ghost Command. I feel your loss, last decade I won a sweepstakes from Newtype magazine, got a Rei Ayanami CD but I believe my parents threw it away as it was covered and protected inside some old envelopes. Guess I can confirm this as I was searching around an area of the house were I believed it might had been but found nothing. :(

I have to admit I was probably one of the few that liked Filmation's Ghostbusters quite a lot. In Australia back in the 80's it was well programmed to not have either cartoons of 'Filmation' and 'Real' play against one another. 'Real' was always a Saturday morning cartoon that was fun to wake up to and eat breakfast with. While Filmation's Ghostbusters was a midweek late afternoon cartoon shown at around 6 to 7 pm. It was a good whining down cartoon and due to the ghost theme it was fun to watch as the sun went down. And for that I loved both shows for different reasons.

btamamura Ha ha, I'll give you one better. I still remember to this day, being the youngest out of 3 brothers. I was about 6-7 years old and I would try and get my brother to do the "Lets go Ghost Busters" slap with me. With the magic words and all. Of course, being 10 and 13, they weren't too keen on doing that. Ha ha.

I can't ever remember seeing these toys in stores when I was a kid, but I do recall that they were available from Sears, JC Penney, and Service Merchandise in their annual holiday catalogs' toy sections. It seems odd that Schaper would shuffle them off to Europe before even attempting to see how well they would sell here in the US, but after their TOBOR robot very nearly sunk the company in 1978 due to poor quality control and sending out incomplete toys (Mine was missing many parts out of the box), I can definitely see why they pretty much stuck to producing preschool games like Cootie.

Never stopped to think how amazingly accurate and detailed this ghostbusters toyline was. I was able to get a few figures in package but wasn't easy! Had no idea the ghost buggy did all that too, crazy... now I need that. I saw the Toy Hunter Jordan selling the Ghost command center at a comic con for $1000 or maybe $2000, can't recall. Too bad I didn't pick that up! Oh right, I don't have that money. Great great video! Loved the cartoon.

Dude, I have been binge watching your episodes and I am LOVING these retrospectives. I love that you clearly do have a love and appreciation for these toys but aren't afraid to call out what doesn't work and your sarcasm mixes in well since even if it sounds like you're (retro)blasting these toys a new hole, it's done out a love and jokey humor.
As for the toys. Never saw them. Too young to be in the crossfire to see them on shelves but holy heck, I gotta give them MASSIVE PROPS for giving the female characters actual hair. One thing I can tell you as a girl, hair on dolls can be so iffy when you continuously play and wash it as it gets stiff, loses it's color and luster, and sometimes dries to a completely different texture but those look GREAT so I guess they didn't cheap out on the type of hair they used for them.
Also, I want to give you props for your theme song. The last second where someone is clearly getting bitch-slapped off screen had me do a double take when I first heard it.

You're absolutely spot-on about that ridiculously long uniform transformation scene. It alone drove me away.

I never owned any of the Schaper/Tyco Ghostbusters when growing up,
but I played with all of the toys between 2 friends. The toys were truly awesome!
I do remember my friends had broken pieces already and were well aware of how fragile they were. Back in 2006 I started to track down all the toys and was able to complete them all except the Scare Scooter because I wasn't too interested in it. I still want it to complete the series but it's a low priority. I got the Ghost Command unused in an open box. I haven't applied the decals yet. When my mother brought home the Filmation version I didn't want to sound unappreciative. But boy was I pissed when friends would point that out a lunch time LOL. But you are correct that there were 13 Joes. Was confused a little on either that was Flash or Grand Slam, then I got to the end with the drivers. Then it hit me, you got Flash and version 2 Grand Slam (which is the '83 figure).

Nara Burns female was 2ed in command. As far as the Neo-Sapiens were concerned they were all genetically engineered Eunuchs including Marsala the only Neo-Sapien that was a part of Able Squad. Yeah, this was a Saturday morning cartoon. Besides that, they were not afraid of killing the main characters too. RetroBlasting, what are your thoughts on the news of the Ghostbusters reboot and spin offs?
    Great video as always!

As always, we hope the result is a great film, even though we more often wish for fewer reboots and more original ideas.

I wish the Real ghostbusters toy line followed the show more.....but in my opinion the RGB's were better as far as the show.

I think Dan told the producers of the movie. Is not the same as in the
original Ghostbusters cartoon. But when the song said who you gonna call?
Ghostbusters. Not the song let go ghostbusters let go. But when they made the
cartoon title The real ghostbusters. That's why who heard on the 1st epsidoe of the cartoon.
    Now that's a history

Also do you know if that type of mold is harmful, say to us, or if it has any risk of spreading on the whole figure or even another toy if it’s too close? This is why I was a kenner kid, because those toys would last and be made with the best plastic. R.I.P. Kenner.

Ya know, when I was a kid, I told my parents that I want a Ghostbusters figure which I meant 'the real' but instead my parents wrongly bought me a Filmation version... What a mixed up! 😁

Sadly, I've come to realize I should have bought more toys. Considering how much importance they had and have with whether or not a show is successful (even more so now).

Could Futura's hair Helmut be removed?

I bet that if Filmmation had changed the name to other than Ghostbusters, it would have been more successful show and toyline.

Yeah, the Filmation's Ghostbusters cartoon absolutely sucked, but the toys do look very cool and superior to Kenner's The Real Ghostbusters line (which I still collected as a kid, because they were better than nothing). Also loved the inclusion of G'n'R 's "Night Train" at the end! Melinda is awesome, does she have a sister? Happy New Year to you both, Mike and Melinda!

To bad someone at Filmation didn't have the foresight to name this show and toy line "The ORIGINAL Ghostbusters." That would have stemmed a lot of confusion for viewers such as myself, who thought this series was a blatant rip-off of their movie and cartoon counterparts.

This is Leiastar1234 on Xbox live. The Ghost buggy was named Geebe and could turn into a spaceship In one episode. Jessica reminds me of April O"Neil. It would been neat if they made Hauntquarters. The crack in Jessica's ass is for the Ghost buggy.. in on episode is Peter Cullen as voice.
