I don't blame them for cancelling the shows. I blame them for letting it get to the point where they needed to cancel the shows.
This is a good point.
100%. The show used to have a fun energy that made you feel like you were part of the crew, just sitting around nerding out about films. Over the last 2 years it's turned into a serious news show with a less energetic feel to it. Even with the great group of hosts and panelists that they had, it wasn't enough and that tells you that something is seriously wrong.

Collider cancelling all there shows is one thing but informing all your employees that they're out of the job only hours before an officals statement is unacceptable. They deserved better

What else does Collider actually have? I've only ever seen Live, Heroes and Movie Talk
I hope these guys had regular jobs also because youtude jobs weren't going to last anyway with millions doing the same type of shows reviews eventually the checks were going to stop and everyone was already complaining about it because they were basically starting their own stay at home jobs reviewing movies and TV.
Schnepp was the heart and soul of Collider after John left. When he passed, the transformation accelerated to the point I could not watch it. It was not the show I subscribed too so I unsubscribed which i think happened with a lot of people.

After Campea left the only stuff I watched was stuff Schnepp was in. Once he passed I stopped watching Collider all together.

@@windso878 Not being PC would piss off the left more than the right, would it not? Either way, I appreciated Rocha's opinion on things because it didn't sound like he just towed the line, similar to but no where near as insightful as Dan Murrell on Screen Junkies.
I was watching Movie Talk in its early days at AMC. It felt more "professional" back then, at least in terms of personalities and film knowledge. There were people like Alicia Malone and Amirose Eisenbach who had significant knowledge of classic and indie films. Even if those films were not discussed on the show, they still provided a different perspective and they brought with them a knowledge of cinema that rubbed off on the show. Those aspects have been seriously lacking in recent years on Collider. I stopped watching consistently back in 2017.
Ya the new folks are just a bunch of film students who they let lead the shows, that what it feels like.
They're not even film students. Film students would be an improvement.
I was too, the dynamic between Campea, Ellis, Harloff, Schnepp....etc became a part of my daily routine. I felt like it was sportscenter for movie nerds.
Been watching Jon since the broom closet days. Stopped watching after Jon left. I watched it for Jon, schnep, Dennis and the rest. After that it just wasn’t the same and I unsubscribed.

COLLIDER saved me when I was the new immigrant kid that had no friends. I’ll never forget that channel, I never felt alone.
I know the feeling mate. I've started listening to a Podcast called Star Wars Sessions, and they feel like family.
I used to watch them everyday (when John was there, and beyond that with AMC). The contents were so good.

Yeah I known how that goes. I'd recommend the weekly planet podcast. The guys on it are awesome as well as their CZcams channel.
The passing of Schnepp is understated how big that was for Movie Talk.
I think it accelerated it to some extent, but Schnepp was on the way out before long anyway in my opinion.

Honestly, Collider has been going down for a while and losing Harloff was the death nail. Their shows just aren't good anymore. I stopped watching their videos.

Karim Zakaria and I didn’t really realize it until John left and then Christian left. I was still watching movie talk on occasion until Christian left....I just couldn’t watch Heroes anymore after Schnepp passed

I’ll say it for John. Collider became too unfocused and brought in a lot of people who may love to watch movies and TV shows, but do very little research on em and don’t know how to articulate much from their experiences. Couple that with the complete lack of research and ear to the vessel a lot of their roster had, people realized a lot of it was un-insightful talk and started to sound more like a bunch of 14-year-olds giving discussions on Michael Bay films (besides the collider OGs)

Despite how classy John stayed in this video, it is extremely apparent that he is the reason why Collider was as big as it is and that Colldier ignoring his advice is the reason for their downfall

John has been put on blast mocked made to look stupid by Andy Signore 3 times in 3 different videos it's not fair. I'm all for John Campea making a name for himself having a popular CZcams channel he keeps pushing and going through things that seem irrelevant to get into! How unfair is it that Andy Signore wants to make John Campea look dumb here?.
The golden age of Collider with John, Harold, Ellis, Tiffany Smith and John Schep was lightning in a bottle and hit at just the right time! Loved them and watched them everyday.

I quit watching them a year or two ago. I remember waking up and being so pumped for movie talk. The place was stacked with so many great personalities. I was watching Jedi Council religiously. When Campea left, it was the beginning of the end. I still loved the show and have fond memories of Harloff and Schepp's "shitrats" bit and I smile just thinking of it. Once Schnepp passed and the Schmoes werent involved in the day to day, I quit watching the show. The personalities are what make the show and without them the channel is just one of many.
Yes the shit rats were great. I sometimes watch the great compilations someone made of them. And pete peppers and tony ravioli

Much more respect for you, John Campea. You've reached the pinnacle of loving instead of hating that every man has gone through. It would be SO easy to just be nasty about all this, but not you. Much respect, John!!!
After Campea left, I still watched Collider. The core group of talking heads were still there, and Schnepp was the anchor of Heroes and Movie Talk. After Schnepp died, so did the channel in my opinion. Heroes was never the same and Movie Talk was a shadow of its former self. Sad to see this era end.

@Go Time NowJeremy's contract was only for a year 11/2016- 11/2017 .There are plenty of youtube videos from the shows he did and the one from the day they announced he was leaving.
While I'm sorry for the people who lost their jobs...hearing John go "What do they call it? 'The Tea'? Is that what they call it?" cracked me up.

I fondly recall once you traveled home to 🇨🇦 to deal with a family tragedy, and you STILL made it on air for a weekend episode of AMC MailBag. I held on for Movie Talk and For Your Consideration and watched bits of Collider “ Live” But it became too much of a mess especially when Elis & Harloff left, Perry just didn’t have the gravitas or big personality to host Movie Talk plus she was way too positive about every Movie 🙄 If I had to hear her say “ I’m rooting for this Movie “ again it will drive me up the wall, I liked her input into box office takings but she went on and on about it, I don’t mind Rocha even though he goes on a bit about politics, Roxy I’m sure is a nice person in general but she didn’t give much insight into Movies and how many times does she go on about her habit of smoking dope, she seemed to be way too self conscious about herself to give an honest opinion , Dorina was cool and spoke her mind mostly what we all thought but was brought in way too late, the most annoying thing was they would have guests on or taking Movie Talk and most of them haven’t even seen the Movie they’re discussing! It was just stupid

It's accurate you compare it to the MCU phases 2 and 3 I agree and like the MCU phase I kind of enjoyed 2 more than 3 even though 3 was a beast of a run for both Collider and the MCU.
I’ve felt like collider didn’t have any clear direction for the longest time and all this going down just confirms it, classic movie talk was some of the best movie discussion
In hindsight, I disagree. FYC had been becoming a larger part of the channel in recent months. The writing was on the wall we just didn’t see it at the time.

I never understood Collider Live. They spent 20 minutes talking about what they had for lunch the day before :/

Lol that was always the point of the show. It was supposed to be like talk radio and very fluid conversation and discussion. Just watch some of what Kristian does on SEN. It’s a riot, and very different from various “movie news outlets.”
It was kinda Shmoes Know lite. It's the personalities that carried it and just listen to the talk, sometimes about movies sometimes not. It never reached the level of shmoes know unfortunately...
Sadly that was true. It di6d become unwatchable. Only a few of us can take the reins and lead. John. Mark E. Some needed a partner. Kristian needed Mark. But Ken, Josh, Roxy and even Perri weren't strong leaders. Too many people disliked Rocha. I don't know why Dennis didn't step in and take the desk unless he was too busy.
Pixi 2k agreed. I always saw it as a waste of time, space and money.
You can tell how much he wanted to avoid it because it’s already been 2 years and it took for this to happen for him to talk about it
From AMC to Collider, many of those people on the show were there through my darkest days and just in the background while doing laundry and cardio. These great people shaped a passion in me and gave me something in life to look forward to and have essentially created a better part of me and I am forever grateful for what John created and the team he put together when he was with Collider. It is the end of an era, but it will never be forgotten.
I'll be honest John Collider started the beginning of it's end when you left. Shortly after it's just been bleeding out to the point where it isn't even the same show anymore. John Campea, Mark Ellis, Kristian Harloff all ended up leaving. But in my opinion John leaving was the beginning of the end. Collider is less than a shell of t's former self now
Schnepp was a HUGE loss too
That and Schnepp was the dagger. He was the soul of that show and on 3 different sub channels sometimes 4. Then Ellis and Kristian. It seems like Collider is wanting to do a lot more live interviews with things nothing to do with Movies. Which is fine, but don't make movie talkers talk about things they know little about.

I'm so thankful for watching since AMC Movie Talk WAY back in 2012 and up until now. I've been introduced to so many amazing journalists, pundits, and personalities that shaped my understanding of the movie industry and media reporting in general and had the biggest impact on my freelancing career choices since I was first watching when I was just a senior in high school considering majoring in film for college. Its been a highlight of my day watching AMC and Collider Movie Talk and now TJCS as well as all the content that the Collider crew has spun off into. I'll forever adore the original crew and am so inspired and proud of what they all accomplished being one of the only high quality movie talk shows on CZcams and you guys were truly the pioneers of it. Thank you John Campea and many others for bringing something special to CZcams and I am so glad you are all still doing what you love and bringing the filty on all your own channels that I actively follow. Thank you.
They didn't know what to do with the show. Shows would be an hour +, then we need to keep it under 30 minutes, then we'll keep it under 50 minutes. Then there was one full host then another and another. Here's a great idea let's have a different host everyday. They kept changing things every 2 to 3 months.

God the good old days of collider. John, Schnepp, Ellis, Harloff. Those were the days. That old gang was so amazing together.
Campea, harloff, Ellis and schnepp brought so much joy to my life back in the day. That was the golden age of movie talk. It felt like sports center for film buffs. It was lightening in a bottle.
Can't stress how professional John is about all of this and how much respect he shows, really respect him for that. Honestly, watching AMC/Movie talk during the rise of Marvel was a pleasure to behold and we got see some amazing shows. I can certainly say it's not what it used to be and glad we still have places like this to see topics disccused. It was breif, but think the peak for me was when John was back and Jeremy Jahns joined for a while, watching him and his dogs interact with the staff still stands out. Him, Schnepp, John and Ellis on a table together was pure Geek magic. Thanks for this video and thanks for the memories Movie talk.

God how I miss the glory days of AMC / Early Collider. You, Dennis, Schnep, Amirose, Harloff, Ellis, Mova, Malone, Smith Lord. You guys got me through some of the hardest times of my life when I was in the hospital. I cannot express how thankful I am for you all and what you did. And what you John continue to do. I remember making you a photoshoped image of Yoda riding your back and you made it your fb background one time. I felt so honored by that.

I actually still enjoyed Movie Talk, Heroes, Jedi Council, and Live even after the "glory days." I'm immensely dissapointed in this decision by Collider, but it makes sense business-wise...

Martin Jørgensen the outrage is not important. The people who are voicing their outrage don’t understand that it was unsustainable.
Collider deep fake stuff, many are over a million views. Not cinemasins view counts but still. Had no idea deep fake was popular .. it's crazy but it does seem like , while it may be a trend, that combined with other contracts for their game development area could be good for them.
This whole thing sucks. Although Collider has had some ups and downs, I've always enjoyed watching Movie Talk and Jedi Council, among others, and I'm a fan of so many of their onscreen talents. I hope we see them all again in other shows.
The talk shows were so great. I remember having them on in the background when I was working at a part time job freshmen year of college, up until John left. Great memories and a lot of laughs.

I was there watching when it was AMC. Stayed when it went to collider, and I saw how much work you put into it. Loved Heros with Schnep! Was my go to place for movie news. Came over here when you started your new journey. And eventually Collider just stopped being part of my day. Sad to see.

@@thewanderer2020 The professionals dump you too. The Federal govt has fired people with no notice. Wall Street firms have done the same. Hospitals, police depts., the military all have shut down operations literally overnight and employess found out when they arrived at locked buildings or security escorts who showed them to the desks to clean out and then get escorted back out. The Enron Company which was making a ton of money and had huge pension funds went bust in Texas did it to their employees.

As usual you are very diplomatic, from a Canadian to another "Hey!" But seriously it is the end of an era. I loved the glory days and made a point to watch the videos. Loved the inventive opening themes and graphics of Heroes and Jedi Council. It was growing and growing. The team you assembled was part of the daily routine " Welcome to the ..." energetic, astute, wise, knowledgeable Schnepp was amazing, everyone contributed and although I still think Empire is still the best and I think Lucas started to slide when he introduced the Ewoks + turning stormtroopers and their armour into useless dorks, I really respect what you had then. Thy at least should have given them a send off like Chris and Mark
I appreciate the professional response to Collider John, I can hear your sadness/passion in your voice and I'm so sad that Collider had to get to this point but I completely understand this situation from a business perspective. Collider lost thousands of views after you left and John Scnepp passed away. I hope everyone at Collider Movie Talk, Jedi Council and Heroes are able to find new jobs soon.
I've been listening to John since the AMC Man of Steel Review. I listen almost every day. Movie Talk became my daily walk/jog listening routine.
Crazy to see it Grow and fall.
Keep up the great work John. Its people like you and Robert that keep us glued. Perri and Jonh Rocha were some of my faves. I hope that all ya can get together sometimes for one good ol Movie talk.
John, Schnepp and Kristian were the heart and soul of Collider, and for John he has been working since the AMC days so in my opinion had every right to feel like he should have a say on what he wanted to do and where he wanted Collider to go, but sadly some businesses don’t like to work that way.
As for Collider now I couldn’t give two shits about them; and it is so sad to see a lot of their employers now looking for jobs. An absolute joke. Good luck to them.

D Hårdrock he’s just not for me. I watched the SEN episode with roxi and Reilly just to hear their take on being fired, and I couldn’t even make it through the episode. Kristian’s show is geared towards immature teens. I’m not his audience and that’s fine.

Honestly the most underrated thing about this video was how Canadian John's "sorry's" sound.
Felt rude sending in this question so I'm glad he's addressing it but sad he is as well. I've loved since John made it happen and even now still watch movie talk cause I love Perri and a few others at collider still. Very sad news, but what you're saying makes sense as well
They lost me when they started trashing the people who didn't like the last season of GoT, and I pretty much disagreed with almost everything else they talked about... and it was annoying that they often had discussions about movies they didn't even bother to see (when that's obviously their job)

@@malcolmflex7997 I didn't know that. But I caught their remarks about people who didn't like the new Star Wars film and they were saying the exact same things about fans who hated the film. I mean shouting and yelling stuff about how those fans shouldn't come to the site and that they were the worse. I was left speechless.

Never watched Collider because I was watching a lot of the old MovieFights, and began watching you when you started doing your own thing here. But going back and watching the old stuff when you were still there, i think it's pretty clear that you, Schnepp, Harloff, Ellis, Malone, et al. were the heart and soul of that show.

I stopped watching when I notice they followed trend, affraid of disliking a film because it had a political message. If the channel is meant to bring news or be a professional criticism it has to be subjective. One thing I like about you is that you state you like the film but it's not for everyone else.
You built the best movie-related show on the planet, because of AMC Movie Talk I appreciate movies much more since then. I hope someday there will be an other show like that.
I’d like to share a couple things, John, if you ever get around to reading this...
You got me into movie news and helped me appreciation film in a new, refreshing way (thank you!). Schnepp taught me to be proud of nerding out & of liking things that weren’t mainstream and Kristian/Ellis closed the deal with their humor and Star Wars chatter. I listened to you guys on the daily and reinvigorated my love for Star Wars/comics.
I was bummed when you left and devastated when Schnepp passed. It felt like a family member had suddenly been taken. Then, much like Disney Star Wars in the last 2 years, it became a gradual process of deflation of hype/goodwill & losing interest from all the mismanagement.
This is how it ends... 😔
The problems I think Collider had were they had too many redundant shows discussing the same exact topics using many of the same on-air personalities and then created so many niche shows that had already small potential markets. Also, they changed around the formatting, hosting teams, and scheduling of their shows way too often.
Eric Hovland they had far too many on air personalities. Couldn’t have been cheap.
Been here before Collider was created. After realizing John left, I'm here now.
Thank you for your comments on this. Miss those good old days but I love all the people and creators across the board. I watch your show for movie news as it’s more my style though.

I stopped watching colider movie talk because MY CZcams home page stopped alerting me to new uploads and I just forgot to look them up....hmm? I was also subscribed.
Its sad that Collider is cancelling Heroes and Jedi Council. I wish them the best
The amount of class when speaking of the situation both with what happened and why he left is a testament to how much John impacted AMC/Collider Movie Talk while he was there and why his channel has grown so well. There’s a reason why when good people leave companies that numbers dip. You can read news about celebrities, movies, or really anything anywhere now. In a world of media and news overload it’s relationships and the people themselves that will differentiate the successful media outlets from those that can’t find their footing. As long as there are people like John that hustle and grind toward something they believe in and companies that support them to in their goals and message we can always count on news that matters to us, even if it’s over something as trivial, in the long run, as film and television.
Thank you John for the years of work you put into movie talk. It was the channel that helped launch me into the movie world beyond typical blockbusters. I miss the content discussion you guys all had and was disappointed with the direction collider went but like you said it was their decision.
They didn’t let everyone know the way things were going...so many people thought they had jobs and then boom happy new year your fired

I used to watch movie talk every day. Originally found it when I was working overnights back in 2013. Campea, Schnepp, Amirose, Denis. Those were the ones with the passion and you could feel it. Especially Schnepp. I tried to watch when the others left but after Schnepp’s passing I couldn’t bring myself to anymore. I think a lot of people weren’t watching movie talk for the concept but for the personalities on it. Loosing them made it feel like something different.
Respect to your take on all this though, John. That is class.
And man, I am sad for you seeing this thing you build be torn down.

I’m very late to all of this. Don’t know if anyone will see this but I just want to give my 2 cents. I loved AMC movie talk/collider movie talk. I remember coming home from highschool everyday, making food, and sitting in front of my computer to watch movie talk. My mom would come home and we’d talk about the topics they brought up. I really loved the show and it kept me so informed in this topic that I was really interested and cared about, movies, of course. I remember when it switched over to Collider and how scary it seemed but then it seemed like everything was staying the same and it would be alright. I remember working in the library my first 2 years of college and I’d listen to movie talk everyday. Then at some point, I just kinda stopped. It was kinda gradual. I just wasn’t watching anymore. Now I’m graduated from college and haven’t watched movie talk in a couple years. I didn’t even know it stopped until just now. Personally, I stopped watching collider because it got too pop culture/comic book movie focused. Don’t get me wrong. I love comic book movies. But it was every episode, going on and on and on about the new DC movie switching directors or getting cancelled or changing stars or whatever whatever whatever. It was just on and on. I watched movie talk for MOVIES. All movies. I wanted to be in the know and listen to people who I felt like WERE in the know. At some point it just felt like a bunch of people gossiping. That’s personally why I stopped watching. I wish all the best for everyone involved and hope another platform comes around that does for people what movie talk did for me. Thanks John for creating something that gave us so much.
