    So I decided to do some videos on common procedures specific to Fords. This is a must after any engine or transmission repair and you don't have access to a scan tool to clear the KAM manually. Many times the pcm will still be using the learned values and compensating for the problem you just repaired. This procedure is good for all model years late 80's to current but is much more important on 2004+ model years that incorporate a electronic throttle body system. Dual Battery setups require both batteries to be disconnected.

    As a fellow FORD guy and a do it yourself er, I would like to personally thank you for your in depth knowledge and step by step instructions on how to diagnose and repair these vehicles! By FAR one of my favorite if not my ABSOLUTE favorite repair channel. My family and I thank you for your service to our country, and I personally thank you for being an outstanding mechanic who's willing to help less advanced mechanics such as myself say "that don't look to bad" and try it!! Keep on doing what's you're doing boss IT HELPS! Peace and continued blessings.

      Using the "tow/haul" mode is still a good idea for the longevity of your trans if you are hauling wieght. I was told by a career trans co. owner/race car guy, rebuilder(he did all the law enforcement vehicles in the area)so.....well experienced, that having the choice he would never use the Overdrive on unless he was empty and then press it on once up to highway speed. It uses more fuel/gas no doubt but the trans does not suffer nearly as much. My 96 f250 4x4 wieghs in at nearly 7000 lbs empty. You can feel the difference in torque with it "off" I'm sure.

    I find myself going through this each time I change my oil and clean my MAF sensor after cleaning my CAI filter. You were 100% correct that the problem I was having with MPG was 100% related to the oil coming from the aftermarket CAI filter after cleaning and re-oiling. The excess oil from the aftermarket air filter had put a light coat of oil on the very thin and sensitive MAF sensor wires/resistors. There wasn't wasn't much filth on the sensor but it was enough to cause my poor MPG issues. Cleaning the MAF sensor, the Throttle Blade and Seating Area combined with redoing this super easy reset of the PCM's stored vehicle adaptive learning settings has restored my MPG to 14-16 MPG from the 11- 12 MPG that I was getting prior to these cleaning and resetting procedures. Your videos are always Awesome and a HUGE help for us and combined your Super Easy step by step video Information has made a huge difference and made me a better and more confident DIY'r. I just did this on my 2007 Mustang GT (after doing a tune-up and new aftermarket mufflers) and I can honestly say the automatic transmission shifts better and accelerates better. And I did a testdrive after doing the tune-up but prior to resetting the PCM. Shifts are better, downshifts are better when accelerating. It used to feel like it was a gear too high and trying to struggle through it. Not anymore. This is definitely a good "hack/fix."

    First off I have to thank you for posting this video. I have an 07 Ford Edge one of the coils burnt up and I guess trashed the PCM as well. Had a mechanic that basically runs a shop out of his home ship the PCM off to be repaired and flashed got it back transmission issues hard shifting etc. So he then took it to a Ford dealer to be flashed again. Transmission still hard shifting. Shipped PCM back to be repaired again and still the same transmission issues. Took it to aFord dealer to have it diagnosed they said it was an internal issue with the in transmission. I still didn't believe that because after driving it a few times the shifting pattern changed if that makes sense instead of hard shift it was more of a longer shift. That might be what you guys call slipping not sure. I then put the Lucas transmission fix in it and it was shifting way better. Went ahead and tried disconnecting the battery cables for 30 minutes after doing some research online to try to reset the PCM that way. Did basically everything in your video that you recommended except for the alligator clips. Did the test drive the shifting pattern is again back to the way it was when I first started driving it after the repairs, hard shifting. I'm going to try your suggestion in the video using alligator clips. So frustrating I'm a female and trying to diagnose this myself is absolutely crazy!!!

Some say, "she's a female she doesn't know about cars", well it's just as bad when you're a guy and you're EXPECTED to know about cars and you don't. I believe I was born 150 years too early cause I don't know crap about cars and don't WANT to know. In another 50 years cars will drive by themselves, but then people will be complaining about their home robot acting up. "He won't vacuum, clean the bathroom or take out the trash. I'm never buying a Ford robot again".

      How do you use the 12 test light instead of the jumper wire

    • @carl3820
      @carl3820 Před 2 lety +9

      @@tashaelizabethgooden211 you place the 12v tester on both terminals just like he did with the wire but when you use the test light it will light up because of the power that’s stored in the PCM and capacitors. As the caps discharge the light will start to dim and fade away. Once it fades to off you know your caps are discharged. Same goes for many electronics. When installing fuses into things like car audio amplifiers. To avoid the initial spark you can apply the test light in the same way and power the caps inside the amplifier so when you install the fuse you won’t get that quick ark and spark. ✌️

    I have had cars that were being difficult.
    Leaving it unhooked for 24 Hrs has always worked for me.
    I also cycle the key on a few times before I hook it up.
    I have four fords and I can say for sure they do learn and you have to drive them the way you drive.
    Don't leave out 96 and up because 95 and below can be cleared just by unhooking the battery for 30 min.

    I just bought a 2013 Fusion with the oftentimes 'dissed 1.6t engine' because the previous owner hated its shift points, shuttering and of course the high pressure fuel injector noises. Per your videos, I reset everything and put about 100 miles on it and it now runs great. $1000 for a 118k mile car that runs well is a bargain in my opinion. I think people are misunderstanding this video. If you have a bad transmission, then replace it with new or rebuilt, you need to reset your ecm,pcm,computer so that the bad curves that it has saved will not be used on your new transmission- thus causing a good transmission to act just like your old bad transmission. Resetting your ecm,pcm,computer does NOT FIX current problems with your sensors, airbags, engine or transmission. Those issues must be traced down to their source, bad grounds, skinned wire, mechanic failure, etc and fixed....then.... you reset your computer, ecm, pcm (all the same but different names).

The only time it is important to follow specific steps regarding the ignition sequence/key position is when you have already reconnected the negative battery terminal after waiting 5-10 for the capacitors to drain. It is a professionally rebuilt engine from machine shop with many new parts such as camshaft position sensor, crank sensor. Has 40 psi at the fuel rail, has spark at the spark plugs, has 12 volts at the fuel injectors and compression is 145 to 155 on all six cylinders. All wires and grounds between the PCM and engine were checked and are good. It seems to be the fuel injectors are not being activated since I have compression and spark and fuel pressure. I'm thinking the injectors are not being activated, but not sure. Will this method clear the PCM for the engine also? Thank-you.

    an even quicker way to do it is to disconnect the positive side as well from the battery and run the jumper across the positive and negative cables. If there's enough slack you can even touch the positive and negative cables together once they're disconnected from the batteries. On vehicles with two batteries make sure you disconnect the cables from both batteries. Doing it this way drains the capacitors in about 60 seconds or less.
