      my sentiments exactly, Radar love was second rate compared to the rest of the album. The funny thing is Big Tree Blue Sea wasn't originally on the Moontan album, at least not on the European release, they originally had two songs that didn't fit the feel of the album at all, "Suzy Lunacy (Mental Rock), "Just Like Vince Taylor". it was a US record producer who took Big Tree Blue Sea from an earlier album that hadn't been released in the US and put it on Moontan, thus creating the cohesive masterpiece that made my top ten list of all time greatest albums

    Picked up this album at a friends house to hear the new song radar love. Quit listening about three hours later when I had to go eat supper. Shortly later I had a copy of my own. Pure rock long songs one of the greatest of the 70s. Been turning people on to it where ever I have lived in the states since. Kick ass from beginning to end.

    Moontan was a flash of genius and one of the main soundtracks of my high school years. Sex and drugs and rock and roll seemed like a lot of fun at the time but when I think back to the people who were hurt as a result of my self indulgent lifestyle God knows I would have done things a lot differently.

    Got turned on to these guys when I was first stationed at Williams AFB (don't look for it now, it don't exist anymore), since that time back in '74/'75 I've been hooked. I Luv songs that last more than 10 minutes, which really sucks where I live now, it takes less than 10 minutes to get anywhere. But for a pure driving experience, it has to be Golden Earring.

      @donnadarkstar9130 Před 7 lety +1

      butch196018 True , many people loved Foghat but my tastes were more towards Golden Earring. I just loved the Moontan album and other songs but I there were other albums that had that I didn't care for at all. I always gravitated to the music that was not played on the radio with all bands . For instance although I liked Radar Love there were Golden Earring songs that were never played on the radio that I absolutely loved and still do like Big Tree , Blue Sea ... are you receiving me. I could imaging if they played on of their lesser albums and there was an audience that wanted to hear familiar songs they would absolutely be booed off the stage or even if they played their good stuff and people didn't recognize the music. I know a lot of people that don't like the music I like as they will say " I never heard that , I don't want to listen to that "

    • @esdanny1
      @esdanny1 Před 7 lety +1

      Even today, I can't stand Radar Love, when it came out it was the best song/tune, but the radio stations screwed it into the ground playing it over and over again. I love everything Golden Earring has done except for that song. Maybe someday I might listen, it's really such a great song, but when radio stations kept playing it over and over it kinda lost it's magic.

    in defense for the newer generations (I was born in the 60s). The 20 something of today heard yours and my music first so they got the taste of it BUT got stuck with what was on the radio. They are getting the "Made in China" plastic stuff.. they can't help it. I know for a fact many do indeed get to hear the great stuff. They aren't all boxed in. Most of the great stuff they listen to is on Independent Labels and underground. I promise, they have good stuff. We just aren't listening.

    • @cazgerald9471
      @cazgerald9471 Před 4 lety

      Agreed - we got lucky that great music was mainstream, but exploring deep cuts could get expensive, and finding independent releases could be challenging. Today the mainstream is less than stellar, but social media allows the exploration of interesting new artists plus virtually anything that's ever been recorded. OK that last bit is an exaggeration, but the amount of recordings readily available is staggering.

      The record execs did change the cover because of potential US controversy, but changing album tracks was a very common practice - look at Beatles, Stones, Jimi Hendrix, etc. The Beatles stopped the practice for their albums when they renegotiated their contract prior to Sgt Pepper - an artist has to sell a lot of product before they can dictate every detail of their contract.
