Quibi is literally blaming their failure on the pandemic, as if people aren't watching netflix, hulu, and amazon prime all day. Quibi's content just looks awful🤷♀️
We're all stuck at home, unable to do things for extended periods, which is the perfect time to sit down in front of your TV and watch long-form content.
Predominantly on-the-go short-form content is... I wouldn't say "gonna suffer", but I can maybe see where he's trying to come from? Quality aside, why would I watch Quibi when I have netflix right there, and it will keep me entertained for longer?
Now, if I were out and about and had 10m on the pooper, public transit, or whatever, to watch something? Yeah, Quibi would be great!

The worst was the one with Sophie Turner comparing British and American terms (jumper = sweater, etc.) as a front to say the use of the term "quibi" to describe 15 minutes is weird...but also without explaining what the hell the app even is.
I was just coming here to say that. It's a big marketing failure. It wasn't until I watched this video that I even knew what it was, nothing about the ads I've seen motivated me to try and find out what it was.

Honestly, CZcams is the only place I've ever seen Quibi advertised. I've never seen it advertised on any other site, on TV, the radio or, anywhere in public.

Each episode can be about the next clue, or a brainstorm session trying to figure out the clues collected so far, or maybe even short conflicts with suspects that end up ruled out. I think dummy is written by Cody Heller and is loosely based on her finding her husbands (Dan Harmon) actual sex doll. The age gap in their relationship is twelve years but Harmon has a really old look so I think it’s somewhat faithful

He tried to make changes to his channel and add new shows, but got accused of plagiarism, and they just didn't really take off. In the end, he jumped ship and made passable content on Facebook, I guess. That's the last I heard of him
this reminds me of when everyone's phones started getting smaller and smaller (remember Samsung Jukes?), and then apple came along knowing what people REALLY wanted...bigger screens. This is like that, they thought they knew what people wanted, and they didn't.
To be fair, Samsung came out with the Note and everyone made fun of how big it was, and thought it was unwieldy. Apple said it was way to big and world never so that. Then a year or two later had big iPhones trying to catch up. They all do it in tech, misread customer needs.

I think the idea was that people would watch Quibi on their lunch hour and on breaks. Then Corona happened and a lot of us are out of work. Now, we’re looking for long form content to pass the time.
From what I've heard working under Jeffrey Katzenberg is hell and after production hell it might work out, but the process to get there wasn't sustainable in many many ways. Like apparently people like Stanley Kubrick and Hayao Miyazaki are difficult to work with, but in their case it's because they know where they're going with the project and they want the details to be just right. So it's not production hell with those two.

I signed up for their free three month trial and a out 24hrs later received an email saying my free trial was rejected and that my card would be charged full price... I never got a reply as to why...

Quibi looks like it was something for us commuters that maybe have a 10-30 minute public transit ride to work. And so having it only on smartdevices would work great. Then the pandemic happened and now most of the people that would go and commute are not.
Yeah, that was the premise. I don't think it's dead on arrival purely on it's concept alone but the shows seem insane and it dropped at the absolute worst time it possibly could have.
But you can watch youtube for free ... and you can watch quality movies/shows on the netflix app and just pause it ... am I too zoomer to see the appeal here
I feel like while plenty of people do watch things on the go, and I'm mostly speaking from my own preferencrs, but counting on a video app that people will watch on-the-go was kinda silly. I think people mostly if they're gonna watch on the go, will just bring a laptop anyway on a train/bus or whatever, negating the need for a phone app trying to compete with all that, plus weirdos like myself who mostly just use their phone as an mp3 player while on walks.

As far as Apple TV+ I got it for Amazing Stories expecting 10 episodes since that's what was bought and they decided to only release 5 for the first "season". However they felt a little better than the new Twilight Zone episodes but not as good as the original series of Amazing Stories.
I actually like HBO Max. It’s just the new HBO now/go and it has fresh prince of bel air plus the Max originals that will come out should good. Apple TV is awful because it came out and had basically no content for its subscribers except for two shows that people were really interested in and subscribing for
Jen Seedling Same Apple TV is split for me. On the one hand it’s not amazing and truly overhyped. But on the other hand the originals are decent enough. HBO max was disappointing for me because I feel like it wasn’t worth the price and it felt like the bare minimum. Disney plus is still laggy boring and uninteresting.

I actually downloaded quibi to watch some content from my favorite actor on my birthday. I tried to zoom my shared screen and the audio wouldn't share. You'd think that quibi would make it more accessible to share considering THAT'S HOW PEOPLE TEND TO ENJOY THINGS?? WITH other people and especially online during a pandemic.

I remember seeing ads for Quibi on CZcams and thinking it was a spam ad. It didn’t matter that there were a couple celebrities in the ads, none of the ads I saw explained what Quibi is, and the formatting looked super sketchy.

Idk about the other programming on Apple TV, but mythic quest was genuinely one of the best shows I've seen in years, so it has that going for it.

Quibi commercials gave off Wattpad vibes, like after the update where there’s a shit ton of ads that now make it impossible to binge material.
This reminds me of some online comics that I read which publish only one page at a time, but every day or so. As mentioned, the broken down format doesn't work with everything, but I find it can do wonders with slice of life/comedy/and such types of stories. The fact that you have to wait in between mini episodes is similar to watching series air on tv, in the sense that the wait makes you invested in it, and the overall spread from the time you watched/read the first episode to when you did the last one or the one you are currently at really makes it grow on you. And isn't that how stories become important to us? I reread some of those 1-page-a-day comics after some time, but all in one go, and found that my experience was rather less appreciative of the story. It was just so much better when it was still airing, because I would get home after class/work and every day before I went to bed I had my one page of daily story episode. What I mean to say is, I do believe that this kind of format could work, because I've seen it happen. I don't think it is adapted to all genres though, since as mentioned build up and action wouldn't work out too well. There were elements of build up which worked nicely in the comics I read, but rather on the long term (waiting for the chapter when that one thing is finally going to happen). Anyway, just wanted to share this.
Honestly, Katzenberg wasn't even "with it" when he worked on stuff like the Disney Renaissance. It's well documented that he wanted to do stuff like cut out "Part of Your World" or believed that Pocahontas was the "legit" movie compared to Lion King (which were produced simultaneously). The guy never had any clue, he was just lucky to get an amazing creative team together at disney animation and the support of michael eisner.
Oh, and he also screwed over Robin Williams. So there's that.
He also screwed over his own studio by canceling Me and My Shadow, a movie that combined hand drawn animation with cgi animation so it could be a tax write off, he said Megamind, a movie that perfectly subverts the hero and villain tropes, was bad, Over the Hedge was bad and he probably thought that Peabody and Sherman was going to the next big thing like Shrek or Dragons.
I am so pissed they brought back Reno 911 and put it on this damn service.... 😑

Saw some commercials for The Most Dangerous Game and got pretty excited for it, had no idea it was a Quibi thing. No wonder I couldn't find it anywhere.

Good points. The only thing I want to say is that I find myself unable to screenshot or screen record on other movie apps either. Not on Netflix, Disney+, or Hulu. So I’m not surprised Qibi has done the same.

About Katzenberg being in the know...yeah, on Katzenberg's first day at the Disney company, he demanded a scene from Black Cauldron be cut, only for the director of the film to be like "You can't just "cut" an animated film."

i downloaded it because some of the stuff seemed interesting (they tried to block me from a 90 day trial bc i was in quebec like people dont have vpns lmao) but it's pretty disappointing. the video quality keeps buffering and there's no way to fix it, the fictional contetn has potential, like there is some good stuff, but a lot of it is just frustrating, like with the editing and such, especially reality tv ugh

Also, I get your frustration about the age difference. It just feels like a classical Hollywood/ porn couple in which the woman is young, fit & gorgeous & the man is way older, average (sometimes even below average let's be real) & very, very hairy for some reason. It sends a terrible message to the audience, gives a distorted view of reality (which many people take at face value) & it's so heterosexual male-centric. Just wrong on so many levels.
But when the anger/frustration is fresh it's hard to put the finger on it. So yeah, I get it.
Great breakdown! I got the app for the Reno 911 revival and that was fun but it was weird that just when I felt like the episode was picking up it was over and on to the next. I think the app creators thought oh people are on the go so they don’t have time to watch long shows. But look at the views long CZcams videos get. Look at shows that are binge watched. People will gobble up content no matter the length if it’s interesting and good.
