  • My wife and I traveled through the Alps in September 2021. I rode a motorcycle, she drove an SUV. A GoPro Hero 9 was mounted to the front of the motorcycle windscreen and recorded 4K video wherever it was legal to do so. We recorded tens of hours of high-quality video and also got some good 4K shots with a DJI Mavic Air 2 drone.
Back home after the trip, we extracted full telemetry data (e.g., GPS coordinates, speed, altitude) and overlaid that data over the video. This offers a richer viewing experience than plain video footage. We also produce a 3D terrain preview of each segment using Google Earth Pro's features together with actual track data recorded by our navigation systems during travel.
The video here is from our traverse of the Stelvio Pass in the Italian Alps. The pass is the second-highest paved road in all of the Alps and the highest in the Italian Alps. The pass is popular with bicyclist, motorcyclists, and automobile drivers. For good reason, as it offers spectacular views and an exhilarating drive/ride.
We have produced two other CZcams videos from our rich bounty of footage collected during this trip. The links to those videos are below.

Super filming and directing! you managed to capture very well everything that means Passo di Stelvio, both as a road and as a landscape.

Great video. Beautiful scenery. Looks like a fun ride. I wouldn't want to do it on a bicycle, however. Very good narration Laurie. Sounds like a professional travel video.

Which software do you use for the overlays of speed, angle etc?
