    PRO TOOLS SHORTCUTS

Creating New Tracks: A New Workflow
Most Pro Tools users are familiar with how to create tracks using the New Tracks dialog box.
From the Tracks Menu, choose New
    OR
Type Shift+Command+N (Mac) or Shift+Ctrl+N (Windows)
Some folks don’t know the shorter shortcut for creating new tracks!
You’ll notice in the tracks list, there’s a big blank space underneath any current tracks in the Edit Window of your session. This same blank space exists in the Tracks List and the Mix Window. If there’s no tracks in your session, you just see a big blank space.
Most Pro Tools users don’t know that double-clicking in this blank space will create a new track of the same track type as the previous track created. If you just created an instrument track, double-clicking the blank space will create another one!
There are additional modifier keys for this shortcut too!
    • Holding down the Command key (Mac) or the CtrI key (Windows) and double-clicking will create an Audio track.
    • Holding down the Control key (Mac) or the Start key (Windows) and double-clicking will create an Auxiliary Input track.
    • Holding down the Option key (Mac) or the Alt key (Windows) and double-clicking will create an Instrument track.
    • Holding down the Shift key and double-clicking will create a Master Fader track.
