keyboard guy plays the bassline, bassist plays a modulated loop, guitarist blows his guitar, drummer is half asleep and the singer hits every single note the album version contains and it all sounds phenomenal. Great soundboard mix too.
It's funny because some lyrics are just amazing. This is one of the top ones. The other on I hold in high regard is "I will be calmer than cream, making maps out of your dreams" - TV on the Radio (Young Liars). Also "I will turn those screams to rhymes" "And I'll be cashing in each time!" - TNAF (backslide). God I love a great lyric :)
Its because they all use the same exact equipment they used when recording as they do when playing live. That and they're just one of the most tight playing bands on the planet.
+KaptainKokosnoed well no because you will have to thank both sets of grandparents and they had no control when it came to Leon meeting his wife and thus creating half of the gene pool that kings of Leon have. so no i will not thank the grandparents
But their grandparents can also be the parents of their parents, in theory... And you know they're from the south everyone is having sex with their sister and shit
That crowd has no idea what they just witnessed 😳. Live Closer from KOL that was absolutely nailed! Close your eyes and you can swear it's studio recorded! Outfreakinstanding!
don't blame the crowd, you can tell they want to move but i've read there is a terrible culture of security threatening the crowd during these tv performances of being booted if they enjoy themselves
That's a nine year old comment but I'm sure it's just as true today. I was scrolling through the comments to see if anybody else thinks this is the sexiest song ever. Not many people say it, but maybe they don't realise that that is why they like it. :)
Anyone still listening to this in 2021? This song should main event a Super Bowl half time show could you imagine the pop of the crowd and the sound Matthew makes on that guitar inside of a stadium would be amazing
That's exactly what I think every time I see him play. Like he has to have a metal band on the side that no one knows about. If he doesn't, he should definitely get one.
Absolutely. He spared not a note and absolutely shredded it. Love when the artist sticks to almost the same notes and melodies as the studio version. This is super perfection.
There is something in this song which makes it specific, different, it moves me to another place and that's why I can't be cured of this sound and I don't want to, even if I have completely different music taste.
martiansarepunk band sounds sexy af mixwise, no one bats an eye. Bands sound like shit, can't hear certain things or something's to loud. Audience loses their shit. Can't win.
There's something that feels so good about music that evokes such a strong melancholy. It aches a certain way that feels good. It's a way to bleed out your sadness in a controlled burn. Nothing life ending or terrible happens, but yet you get to feel so strongly. Songs like this have a way of showing you there's an ache you don't even know you need to let out. Maybe you just need to be reminded you're still alive and you can still feel deeply. Let it out, feel every beat of it.
Stranded in this spooky town Stoplight is swaying and the phone lines are down Floor is crackling cold She took my heart, I think she took my soul With the moon I run Far from the carnage of the fiery sun Driven by the strangle of vein Showing no mercy I'd do it again Open up your eyes You keep on crying Baby I'll bleed you dry Skies are blinking at me I see a storm bubbling up from the sea And it's coming closer... You shimmy-shook my boat Leaving me stranded all in love on my own Do you think of me Where am I now Baby where do I sleep Feels so good but I'm old Two thousand years of chasing taking its toll And it's coming closer...
Even though this song has age on it, it is still my favorite song to this day. I love the gravel and emotion Caleb poured into these lyrics, I can feel his emotions through this song and I feel so much from it!!So eerily haunting yet beautiful tragic all the same time. And the guitar sound just makes the lyrics feed into it, like you can hear the pain. I love it! Kings of Leon you guys do not get the nationwide recognition that you all deserve! #numberonefan
My favourite live performance of any song... The bass guitar plays the lead which I find awesome. Made cooler by the fact the keyboard plays the bass. That cool as fuck sound in the intro? Thats a guy singing into his guitar ofc. The drummer may aswell be a metronome, timing is perfect the whole way through. And well, the lead singer, I needn’t even say anything.... Truly incredible
Kings of Leon have grown on me year after year, saw them at the 02 earlier this year, absolutely incredible unique band, the definition of quality music.
I think he's screaming and blowing air to the front pickup, theres a device using a tube connects to a pedal effect that could make a similar effects by sing and blowing to the tube...
Because these fellows had the misfortune of living outside Nashville, TN who openly snubs anything NOT country music related. SHAMEFUL! Have seen then both times they brought their concert "home" and it is an unbelievable vibe in Nashville when they are "home"....Mechanical Bull was an incredible show as always!
Good to hear, at least they are now getting the recognition they deserve. I still think these guys are one of the best bands out there, so much feeling and soul in the music
I agree, they don't get the recognition they deserve. I'm always sitting here like do people not hear what I'm hearing?!? Some of the best work I believe I've ever heard in my 23 years of life.
Listen to this song everyday. Watch every video of this song. What can I say this song has lyrics and music that make my hair stand up. Don't care that years go by Kings of Leon this is your best song ever. I live in Florida and would love to see them soon.
The crowds at Letterman shows always seem to be that way. Deftones played Change live and they were the same way. Most of them are probably into shallow top 40 garbage.
I've got their CD my Oldest Son went to go see them when they were in South Africa! I had a stroke last year and put into a coma! I love this song! Everything happens for a reason!
keyboard guy plays the bassline, bassist plays a modulated loop, guitarist blows his guitar, drummer is half asleep and the singer hits every single note the album version contains and it all sounds phenomenal. Great soundboard mix too.
this is poetry.
hah, that's exactly a depiction of this performance))) lol
Top 3 of theirs for me....I get lost in it. When I hear it live in person I go bonkers, like possessed
You forgot the drummer looks like Jesus.
Keyboard guy playing the baseline and holding a beer! Haha
“She took my heart, I think she took my soul” will always be my favorite part of this song!
Agreed
I love that part too. I considered tattoo’ing it on myself
Leaving me stranded all in love on my own😭
I love “You keep on crying, baby I bleed you dry” ... That hits hard
this may legit be the best song i have ever heard
This song hits deeper than I want it to. The distance, the depths, the loneliness and disturbance of the inevitable sea crashing upon me.

Damn, your comment got so poetic out of nowhere.
the thing i love about them is that they sound the same way live as they do on a recorded album track.
Abdul Rashid This version is 100x better in my opinion
I'd also suggest you go listen to John mayer to get the same live vs recorded feeling
I'd also suggest you go listen to John mayer to get the same live vs recorded feeling
I was just going to post the same sentiment.
Its because they all use the same exact equipment they used when recording as they do when playing live. That and they're just one of the most tight playing bands on the planet.
thank GOD for these guys parents..
Alfredo Vigo Thank this guys grandparents for his parents

@@samjohn5639 Thanking anyone for anything like that is completely weird anyway lol. This thread is boomer vibes
Easily the best band in my generation where will you find vocals like these . Such talent

His vocals are sick!
These gentlemen are pure gods. Guitar played by mouth, keyboardist with a beer. Unreal live sound.
Their music is timeless. Play it 20 yrs from now and it will still rock 😘
In 5yrs it will be 20 years old 😂
I'm speechless..... what an amazing band.
Pure brilliance!! ❤
You are without speech
And amazing brothers.
Watched them live this song specifically it was something that I will never forget

Singing into a guitar pickup is always a mega power move
It's not for rookies LoL
The sexiest song I've ever heard. I shiver every time I hear it...

Hats off to the guy's. They made a live version better than studio.
If only it was on Spotify
It’s so good when real musicians are heard on huge platforms.
Drummer on 1:04 is like: "Can't wait to get home, play my metal shit..."
haha, these guys are awesome!
That's exactly what I think every time I see him play. Like he has to have a metal band on the side that no one knows about. If he doesn't, he should definitely get one.
this is definitely accurate lol
This song makes me feel like im brokenhearted and walking alone in a dark spooky town...anyone else feels like that ?
No; it makes me feel like I'm eating a corned beef sandwich inside a spherical concrete sculpture in a mid sized city in eastern Europe.
But also yes. :)
It's a song about being a vampire. 2000 years, bleed you dry, run from the sun...

Gotta admit, the first time I heard this song, I was blown away. Beautiful song. Great live performance.
What a masterpiece.. Totally underrated group..
they are world famous...i do not think you understand the word underrated lol
His voice is insane! Exactly like the album and amazing band🔥
The amount of the talent in this band is ridicoulosly high.
Crowd didn’t even know where they were, what a special concert to be at.
Best Vampire song ever
One of the best voices in rock if you ask me

They sound amazing live. I love it when a band can sound as good live as they do in the studio. Chevelle also sounds amazing live.
StylezMakesVideos AM were great live at Austin City Limits too. Was there and it was amazing ^^
what if i told you , good bands sound better live than they do in the studio .
Chevelle rocks
i like chevelle but they suck live

It may go unnoticed by the casuals but when the band and the folks at the soundboard pin it. You are gods eternal.

My fav song as well. Just saw them in Houston last weekend for the 6th time and they still amaze me how well they sound live.
But isn't there only 4 members. Which one is the 5th? The guy playing the keyboard?
