I love the respect you show to our military. Past and present. My grandpa served in World War 2 and my uncle served in Vietnam. Neither one of them would talk about their war experiences. My Grandpa finally opened up about his experience in World War 2 when I called him and asked him about it when I was in fourth grade, doing a school project on family that had served. He told me things that happened that he had never told even my grandmother. I felt so honored that he was able and willing to open up to me for a school project about family that had served in the military. When we went to go visit my family a few years later, I was hanging out on the back porch of my grandparents house and my uncle lived with them. He came out on the porch with me and we were talking, I forget about what, and he was laughing his butt off. I dont even know what I said. I didnt know at the time but my grandma was standing just inside the door watching the interaction. Later on that day she pulled me aside and said she had not seen him even smile since he came back from the war and thanked me for bring joy back into his life. I was embarrassed at the time because i was young and didnt know what she meant but when i got older i was happy to have that kind of connection with both my grandpa and my uncle. They both passed away shortly after that. I still feel a loss and i love them both so much.
It's a sad morning. RIP, Toby. This Vet Salutes you 🫡😢😢 Thank you both for your support.

This was written in response to 9-11 and to his father who died in the same year. He wrote it to sing only on his USO tours(and there were many of those) but the commandant of the Marines told him he should put this song out for everyone to hear if he really wanted to help the war effort. He put it out the next year and it was an instant hit. I am sure you know by now that he lost his fight with stomach cancer and died in Feb. He was a great patriot and will be greatly missed.

Hello, u guys are great. Little info on this song, Toby Keith actually wrote the song for his Dad, as a tribute, when his dad passed away. He didn't record it because it was personal. He's would play it once in a great while. But after 9/11, those that heard this song encouraged and told so often, to record it so he did. This is one of the greatest Patriotic songsive heard!

This old fourth generation vet just loves his patriotic beliefs and his amazing respect for us vets. I don't think a lot who haven't served can really understand what these songs can mean to someone like me, who lives with TBI and PTSD, existing under a VA homeless program for vets. Seeing the Big Red 1 patch on the wall behind him and in the upper corner of his tank cert, yeah that hit close to home me. As for how the country is, i would be more concerned by what the government is doing, then some person wanting identify as a cat. If they want that fine. If you see them as an idiot, fine. People need to understand that is what you get when everyone has the freedom to openly think and state how they feel. Which because the majority of the country tends to stay silent, people mistake that for weakness. Make no mistake, when those freedoms start getting attacked, that is when the silent will start being heard. Which your seeing growing right now. There is an old saying be careful of the strong and silent, for they have nothing to prove untill required too and the ones who required them to get involved, wont be happy they poked that sleeping bear.
Ive got a flag flying on the front of my house here in Texas and I always will I was in the National Guard years ago but I understand the sacrifices people made for us. They deserve respect.

Looking back on it those 6 years in the Navy were the most important thing I'm done with my life. What I was doing was making a difference at a national level not just at my personal level.
RIP Toby, I love you and your music will live on forever. What a great songwriter, singer patriot and just a great man. He has done so much for the veterans and childrens cancer research

Toby was a true blue American who loved and was proud of his country and a steadfast supporter of our military. We loved him every bit as much as he loved us. I spent 24 years of my life in the US Army Infantry with 3 combat tours in Iraq. And in all of that time I never ran into anyone who did not love him. I am not ashamed to admit I shed tears when I heard of his passing. One of my greatest regrets is I never got to meet him in person, shake his hand and hug him and tell him just how much all of us who served loved him. RIP American patriot, you will live forever in our hearts and though your music.

Y'all said it yourself the brave men and women who serve this country are not paid a damn, and left out in the cold. This country only cares about the money and the stock market. Our politics are bribed by multi billion dollar companies who do their bidding. What is there to be proud of?
because it is THAT notion right there is what this country is all about. Ppl can voice their opinions FREELY with pretty much no recourse from the gov. That cannot be said for all countries in the world. NO country is perfect! Rather than looking at the negative, you need to look at the positive. There are countless things to be proud of about this country and we will ALWAYS stand by that!! But we're glad you are enjoying our channel :-)

My grandady fought in Korea, my daddy died in Vietnam, my oldest brother fought in desert storm, the other in operation Iraqi freedom. My youngest brother wanted to join the Marines. The few came home, if you can call it that, made us promise we'd never go. There's more but I'll shut up.
My dad always flew the flag and growing up we had Marines come to our school to teach the kids in charge of raising and lowering the Flag how to do it properly.

If you didn't join the military during the cold war, and were willing to save your family against the Russians...and then went through the Iraqi war and then 9/11, you wouldn't understand what it means to sacrifice your life, time away from family, and the fear of raising your children. I am a female 20 year Navy vet. I was always scared for my family, my sisters, and ultimately my children. I am proud of our country during that time. I hope we can get back to having pride in our country once again.

This song was released on the album "Unleashed" on month prior to the 1st anniversary of 9/11. Toby Keith above all other artists validated the overwhelming anger of that event and gave us an outlet. The song was performed live for months before its release for the troops of Desert Storm.
You're wrong on one thing, there is not a problem flying our flag. If anyone has an issue with it, it's a free country, they can leave at anytime.

My grandfather served in WWII, my Hubby's Dad served in WWII.. both of my Uncle's served in Nam.. My own father served between wars..My parents brought me up with so much respect for our country and our Flag!!!.. 9/l11 was truly one of the worst days of my life... I lived 30 miles outside of DC... My husband, now passed away, was on the other side of NSA... We had 4 children in school.. I had to go and get my children home not knowing if their Daddy was going to get home. That day will stay in my mind forever.

I love this song - it always make both proud, sad & mad at the same time! When this song came out, it was very popular, but also "controversial" with some. Some of the Anti American, Anti War people claimed this song was war mongering. The song even sparked a fuede between Toby and another country singer, Natalie Mains of The Dixie Chicks (No just called 'The Chick's, because the word Dixie is "offensive") Mains was one who claimed Toby was just a war monger and even went so far as wear a T Shirt with the letters FUTK on the front in bold print. Mains claimed the letters stood for "Friends United in Truth and Kindness", but Toby and his representation took it to mean "F&@ck You Toby Keith". Later, Mains admitted that IS what the letters stood for.
Keith later ended the feude, stating that there were much more important things to worry about.
