Canoeing the wabash river this weekend. I haven't canoed since I was younger and this is my first time on a river. However the river is way low and not flowing fast...... should be a great trip and thanks for the tips.
Awesome! Enjoy!
I love long paddles. Short paddles are a pain. 🇨🇦👍
Amazing!
the key...that's important!
I don't know what a stern is
A few points. The woman using the long paddle,, Long paddles can be a very good thing in white water. In large white water,, the water can be a long distance away momentarily, and air strokes are no fun. The long paddle as demonstrated however,, should still be grasped at the palm grip and the throat (or close to it) NOT half way up the shaft. Loss of force, loss of effort.
Kneeling,, you have forgotten the single most important reason to kneel. Yes, kneeling brings down the center of gravity,, very true and very important. Kneeling also shifts the center of gravity forward,, lowering the bow and often helping greatly with directional control. But,, mostly,, canoes on rivers and in white water MUST be allowed to rock left and right,,. The canoe must be free to move perpendicular to the direction of travel,, butts cannot absorb the twist,, knees can, and do. And if fitting between rocks,, the intentional rock of the boat to fit between two rocks can only be accomplished when kneeling. Only.
Gear in the canoe? ALL GEAR,, ALWAYS is tied in and and lashed down. Gear that shifts left to right can carry the boat right over. Gear that shifts fore and aft can and does land against a paddlers feet and knees. The tenet IS "Only tie in, the things you want to keep." All the rest will just be more debris in the river and you will not have your tent two days later when it rains all night,, or your food or water when hungry or thirsty. And my favourite,,,, I find shoes and sandals and flip flops all the time. Lots of people must do the next portage,, over the rocks and through the blackberry bushes,, barefoot.
How do you get back to the car ? Lol
Why do they keep referring to wearing a life jacket when no one is wearing a life jacket? They’re wearing a buoyancy aid!!!!
This used to be true, but the term 'life jacket' is now used universally for any buoyancy aid that you wear like a jacket. The US Coast Guard now rates them on 'Turn Ability', which is whether or not they turn an unconscious victim face up.
Settle mate. Potato tomota. Everyone understands what they meant by life jacket
The woman in stern has a seriously too long of a paddle.
