Best lightweight inflatable kayak?? Sea Eagle EZLite 10 Review

In this video, I'm reviewing the brand new Sea Eagle EZLite 10. The EZ Lite 10 was designed with the idea of creating an inflatable kayak that performs like a hardshell kayak, but weighs half as much, and fits in the trunk of any car. In this video, I'm reviewing one of the lightest sit-on-top kayaks that you'll find anywhere - the Hurricane Osprey 120. While sit-on-top kayaks have many benefits, one of their biggest drawbacks is that they're heavy. Hurricane claims to have solved this problem with the Osprey 120, creating a sit-on-top kayak that is significantly lighter, and better performing. Did they succeed? That's what ...

    My wife and I love these videos, Ken - such a fantastic blend of adventure travelogue and education. Also helpful for me because I’m seriously stuck deciding between the Leo, Virgo, and Stratos for this sort of trip (up to maybe 3-4 nights). Now that you’ve paddled all three and camped out of the Leo a couple times, do you have any thoughts on the pros and cons of these boats for this sort of use? I’ve paddled the Stratos 14.5S and Virgo MV: I loved the playful character of the Stratos, but don’t like those hatches and preferred the glide and hull speed of the Virgo. The capacity of the Leo seems good for camping, but I worry about weight and maneuvering it in the narrow waterways we have here in the Mid West. I also plan to get a proper 17+ foot touring boat at some point and worry the Leo would be too similar to that. Thanks in advance if you get a chance to reply. I saw you at Canoecopia a few times but the timing just never worked out to talk to you. Hope to see you there next time!

      Most communication devices like the Zoleo (or Garmin) use very little power. You only need to power them up when you want to use them. We didn't come close to needing to charge it on the trip. That being said, I use simple portable batteries to keep my electronics charged on trip (phone, cameras, etc...)

    Thanks for another great review! I have 2 Explorers, a couple of months ago I bought the Explorer 300, and right after this one came out! I was a little annoyed because if this one was available then, I would definitely picket it up instead for my solo days. I love the Explorers, but sometimes I want easier and lighter. I wish SeaEagle would just sell the kayaks without having to get any more of the other stuff, I don’t need more paddles, or seats, or pumps. It should be an option to get just the boat and not the package.

    Looks like a great kayak for many people that want to spend extra on a good inflatable and that stick with flat water. I have 3 Sea Eagles 370, 330x, and 380x. The SE370 has been sitting in its bag since we got two Explorer series, but I took the SE370 on the Nanty (class II and one/two class III rapids) and it was really fun however I had to bail some water out two or three times. The Explorer series is great for people who want a inflatable that can do flat water and whitewater, but are willing to heft a few more pounds around.

    Another overpriced Sea Eagle model... Too bad! :( The first generation of FlexBrace footpegs use to have broken clip-ons on the back of them where you would store the metal shaft that's now easier to insert : Have they done anything about that ?! Mine got broken pretty much immediately when I used them for the first time after buying them for my AirCanoe Cruiser 393S and basically have the Sea Eagle RazorLite 393RL for 50% LESS !!! Aren't there any similar models available over there in the U.S.A. or Canada ?? You reviewed the Aqua Marina Tomahawk in the past and they have single seaters too : How about reviewing one of those ? No bungees on them, but then again the Sea Eagle RazorLite 393RL doesn't have them either... LOL! And for footpegs you could add the NRS PVC Footpegs or these new Sea Eagle FlexBrace2 when they become available as a seperate kit just like the old ones :)

    • @PaddleTV
      @PaddleTV Před dnem

      I personally don't agree about any of the Sea Eagle kayaks being overpriced. I think they're all solid value. You can always get cheaper stuff, but you get what you pay for. And no... I'm not being paid to say that. :) Not sure what you mean about the FlexBrace system. And so, I'm guessing that's a much older system that has been revised. The Tomahawk solo kayak is on my list to test... a list that doesn't seem to be getting any shorter. :)

    • @GTN355
      @GTN355 Před dnem

      @@PaddleTV All those 393 models are made in one of the 4 factories in South Korea and China so in the end it's all the same IMHO ;) Test the AirCanoe Cruiser 393S if you can get your hands on it and see for yourself. Or the Star ones... Or the Verano ones... And so on... The footpegs in the Sea Eagle RazorLite 393RL are the so called FlexBrake Kit and are also available on their 473/480/490 tandem models of which there is a long term video by some lady explaining the issue I am talking about : You can't store the metal shaft on the back of them at some point because the clips break very easily! I hope they improved that on this 2nd generation that also seems to mount a lot easier onto the kayak now...

    I have been using the Coast XT as my regular kayak for a few years. The biggest down side is that its stability comes at the cost of being able to roll the kayak, to right it requires so much force that I have trouble not puling myself out of the cockpit, and even when I succeed, the torque through the hull always causes all the bulk heads to pop out. The second problem is that it is difficult to travel with he wind my my side, I seriously injured my shoulder trying to get back into harbour as I had to paddle hard on just one side to stop from turning out to sea. The biggest advantage it has as a touring kayak is that it rolls up like a burrito, so you can access all your equipment in the unfolded hull at loading and making camp. I recommend not buying the thicker seat, use the seat that is included but place a good quality hikers sitting pad under it. The kayak is incredibly light, meaning I can out acceleration a coxed-four.

    I bought this kayak on Amazon based on the reviews. My husband and I usually rent (hard shell) kayaks but then we are limited by the hours of the rental company so no evening kayaking or early/late season kayaking. This seems like a good option as we live in an apartment and there’s no room to store a hard shell kayak. We paddle 2-3 hours at a time on a calm lake so we are hoping this kayak will suit our needs. We won’t be using it together as we paddle separately - husband bought himself a paddleboard but I have difficulty standing up on them due to health issues and previous knee and ankle injuries. I hope my $199 CAD won’t be a big regret as I am already accustomed to paddling using a hard shell.

      Good question! The 393rl is significantly faster than the EZ Lite. But, the EZ Lite is significantly more stable. And so, if you want more stability and are willing to give up the speed of the 393rl for it, then the EZ Lite would be a good swap. Otherwise, stick with the 393rl!

Did solo numerous class II rapids, several class III, plan to do some class IV this year. Bounced of head-on walls, rolled over rock bars - no damage. Tried it on a lake against a strong wind. There is a sponge-like material on the chamber floor to protect it from scratches. Will it absorb water if it gets wet? If so, how long will it take to fully dry before I can pack it up? I dislike inflatable kayaks covered with fabric because water always penetrates through the fabric, and it takes at least two days to dry before I can store it. I do not have a backyard at home, so it will occupy my dining room space for a long time every time I use it.

    Ken, a few of questions, if i may. Are you at all bothered by the fact that this has only 2 air chambers instead of the typical 3 you see on other Sea Eagles ?? Do you think it would be possible to add Scotty glue on mounting pads ?? How precarious would it be to take it through a short/moderate Class II rapid ?? Finally, is it fisherman friendly ?? Thanks !!

      I would look into other models, because to drain this thing you would have to flip it upside down each time and I can tell you from experience that it can be really annoying once you head home after a long paddle... :( Look for dropstitch models with at least 1 or 2 drainage holes at the bottom of the floor!

    I bought this kayak and love it! What electric pump are you using?

      Sea Eagle tells you to only use the auto stop pump on their site. It’s not a major investment but it saves a ton of time and energy. I can get all the rest of my gear together while the kayak is inflating.

      I also wondered what cordless electric pump he's using in this video. Anyone know?

      @@arthurcheng5338 The BP auto stop pump on the Sea Eagle site is what they recommend. I usually set it a little under max pressure and it stops right there.
