Excellent, so here's the teachable moment:
When I didn't break pink in Iceland I'm showing a ton of good faith. Why didn't I break him? Because I'd rather have a friend than an enemy. Pink insisted on being an enemy and immediately using the five troops I gave him against. Ok, fair enough, lesson learned, we're enemies, now I have to kill you or I die. So we both die. Or should have.
Or we could have been friends and both held +5.
@@TheKillPeteStrategy If you watch the video back - while you were afk, you missed a tell unfortunately during your exercises on how pink would act. They fortified into Greenland followed by a thumbs down at the end of their turn that began at 14:40.
@@paulpratt6207 I saw that as well, he asked Pete to attack green just prior to Pete taking SA. It's like Pete said though, he was just out for himself, most likely spotted Pete was playing the long game and judging by the other players skill levels decided he was the biggest threat.
If you suspect one of your allies is allied with another color, ask them to hit that color, especially next to their bones. If its been a few turns and they haven't hit them once, even a 1stack. They are most likely allied and you must decide if they value you alliance or the other more. And make a tactical decision base off that.
I've had to attack plenty of allies before because they're letting one person get too strong:/
@@TheKillPeteStrategy often, the europe player attacks greenland first to delay everyone there, and they can bully south america taking out external stacks, without punished, that forces SA to attack trough others.
At this point, alliances are a joke, they are the first to break you sadly. I'm still having trouble in progressive, to judge the power of opponents with increasing stacks, generally if I don't go for a kill but still set then I'm screwed. If I go for a kill, my 'ally' will not let me hold anything and I'm the first to die with my cards. So a kill guard is the best strategy.
This game had just the right amount of drama. Australia undid two players immediately, green was a ride or die homie, and magenta was catty and vindictive. Glad you survived their needless aggression and eventual suicide run. There was absolutely no reason that they had to keep attacking you after you showed good faith by not breaking them in retaliation. They got what they deserved after that.
And the evildoers are punished!

This is probably in the top five comebacks I've seen.
First was Fil a month or so back having 2 troops in one territory in NA with 4 cards and no trade, and none of the three players who had kills on him did so.
Two was the other day, Kylted battling back from 4 troops in two territories to get the win.
Three was an Earth 2099 game you played a while back with you, red and a bot where the bot left you with one troop in one territory in Asia and Red was so preoccupied with the bot to come take the kill.
Fourth and fifth are close calls between this and a game Olive had the other day where you were both on the ropes but fought your way back.
You know, for a while all the work everyone (you, Fil, Olive, Kylted) have done lately it appeared the quality of game play overall was on the rise, but we must have had a large influx of new players because I've seen some absolutely horrendous play this past week.
It's very satisfying when it happens.
hey pete, have you noticed that the intro is getting cut off? maybe you could count it in so that it doesnt? its just a pet peeve of mine that has been mildly annoying me the last few Videos. love em nonetheless.
I don't know if this explanation will help but what is happening is that I have to fire the lobby, switch back from the scene that hides the lobby on the stream and pretty record simultaneously. I'm missing the timing but I bet I'll get the hang of it.
The upside is my games aren't being sniped which I'm sure you can appreciate would make for worse television.

Hi, this was such a fun game to see and also I just got a crazy win on progressive.
I have lost a ton of troops only hitting one's stacks, so I had 11 troops on turn four without a set to at least save my life (beeing in the last position). Then I tried a kill too riski on a bot and failed leaving me with four troops and a red player holding australia and SA (beeing before me on turn), but a second bot broke SA and the red player didn't get the kill on me with 6 trops right next to me, so I got my set and killed green, who took my kill but without trigering a set, (he had NA but with only One's stacks), and then i just killed everybody because they were too weak after trying to get continents. Excuse my english I'm still learning the basics

This is probably the fastest I've ever seen someone take Africa in a game
So I think the key moment that Pink went bad, was He/She wanted to send his troops though Alaska not Europe but Green was blocking him with a 3 stack, so he said attack Green to you, to get rid of the 3 stack. Then he got p-off when you didn't, so he went through Europe, and left a stack on Greenland for you lol.
When pink used his set and broke you after thumbs up and thumbs down. All you do is thumbs up and retake your bonus. It’s hard to control emotion and stay calm but that’s the play, make him think you’re his ally. That’s what I would have done anyway. Love ya Pete.
Even without applying an emotional lens a player willing to use the five troops you allow him to have against you probably suggests that they are your enemy.

Crazy "comeback", but still enjoyable. It was nice to see magenta's bad neighbor get punished without him taking you down also. Hope he saw the end.

I think what might have happened with pink is that he misread your fortifications after the blue kill. He and purple both viewed the reinforcement of Brazil and Mexico as a switch of position to SA. They assumed either that you no longer wanted North America, or that you wanted both continents which they could not allow, and so they added to their stacks there. Purple clearly thought he could get cards over several turns by leisurely strolling out through Alaska. When yellow suddenly set and hit their medium sized stacks, I think they were very surprised and pink in particular took offense to losing the 8 stack without warning. He viewed hitting your 9 stack as reciprocity for the lost material, but of course it came across instead as him insisting on breaking your continent bonus, which is much more aggressive and long-term. He may have thought that not reinforcing into Greenland and offering the alliance again would be a sufficient signal for de-escalation. I'm not saying this is good play by pink, but it may have been his train of thought. After that it's a death spiral.
Hey, and on the beard/facial hair comment, I agree, for me it actually took growing out as much as I could and leaving it for say 30-60 days, then shaving, and letting it regrow again. Seemed to thicken up.
I wonder how much of that is superstition vs the natural process of getting older. But I had a similar anecdotal experience.

Hey Pete. I recently started playing risk online after watching you. Thanks to binging your videos I managed to get two wins in a row today! I feel I have a similar mindset to you, being friendly with everyone and assuming that it will be reciprocated. Very happy magenta got wrecked 😂

Ah, I don't think green was too bad, except for two mistakes:
1) Not realising when you would break them/entrusting you that you wouldn't in that moment.
2) Either not realizing they play against you and/or forgetting a fundamental rule of risk: All other things being equal, you always kill Pete. And you don't let him live, when he's on the ropes.
With my camoflage how could they have known it was me?

Just played a caps game that went on for 4+ hours where i went from the top dog to being the weakest player half way through. 2 Grandmasters fought each other for a while until suddenly the stronger one suicided into the other one and gave me the game seemingly out of no where. Is this normal behavior for Grandmasters? This is the 2nd time a GM has gifted me the game.
The GM threshold is currently bugged at 5k lower sp than usual so we're likely seeing a lot of poor quality play from low level 'gms' at the moment.

Your arguments were completely reasonable but I do think your read on the magenta player was a bit off.
It felt to me like he was prepared to let you have NA, but only after SA would have been broken. So at 18.19, I would probably have threatened pink's 8 in Greenland one more turn, rather than hitting it, combining with a fortification Brazil to Mexico/Alaska.
I might be completely wrong, and if so, please explain me. I'm not a risk player (I do play chess, bridge, stratego and diplomacy) and my only wisdom about this game comes from your channel. Which I appreciate a lot, by the way :)

It's remarkable how many players of the pink type there are, and how few really good players, who can live with the neighbour having bonuses as well.
with pink i wonder if you should have sat your stack next to Greenland and done an "i need to attack your territory" and given him a chance to move first? or is there a big flaw in that?
It gives them the chance to fortify half of their big stack into said position.

On the other hand if I saw them fortify the 5 up there I should have know there was no chance of working with this person.

Most players in Pete's position would simply pass without taking a card and play for second. I watch Pete because he's always trying to win, even after getting salty and going full tilt into a scumbag player

In regards to the play with pink, I feel it would have been a better move to wait a couple turns and let SA get broken so then you and pink would be on equal ground after taking NA and he wouldn't see you as a threat, but I'm not that great at the game and he could have just been even more aggressive and you lose both

I've seen so many people in my games win by doing exactly what purple did- no one ever wants to break the stacks and they don't bother anyone, just farm cards and keep up the triple stack
It's a pretty straightforward play for the Australia position. Usually good enough for second place.

wow, at the start i thought that white was the worst player i saw in a while rolling 3 on 2 first turn and 12 on 11 or so second turn. then i saw blue do very bad rolls. then i see green aggressively take africa and using that material every single turn to attack blue because nobody else can have a bonus. and then i see magenta taking europe and not accepting you taking NA. then he tells you to attack green and at the same time hits your guard stack to break. how much brain do these people bring to the game?

Have you considered playing other maps for fixed friday? I would love to see how fixed would work on the other 100 maps, seeing the same map 1000+ times gets a little repetitive imo.
I play other fixed settings as part of the regular show. I did trigon's last week. FF will always be Classic.
@@TheKillPeteStrategy yes, I really liked that episode and the japan one but those episodes are few and far in between. I know I don't speak for your entire audience but I feel like watching the same thing over and over again gets boring, I've switched to watching your twitch vods since you have much more variety over there and usually skip around until I find a game I would like to watch. Maybe I just stopped enjoying them since I don't like playing processive or classic fixed. Prog caps seems to be a good in between that I've found enjoyable and I have been religiously watching ET's and JJ's runs into the top 50 with those settings but those are just for the games themselves, their content is 1000% less engaging than yours and find myself wishing that it would be you playing. IDK I feel like if you did a different map every week for Fixed Friday, it would be great content but this is just my opinion and food for thought.
Also, on a side note I've meaning to catch you live to give you another series suggestion, Guess the elo is extremely popular in the chess community. You watch viewers games that are sent in and try to guess all the players ranks (Look up Gothamchess's series on yt for reference). I feel like you would be the best in the community to make a series like this.
