I think M C Escher might be the most influential artist in my career. Ive been inspired by hundreds of artists as an adult but as a kid, Escher was everything. I still feel the sense of wonder and astonishment when I look at his work. This video aims to try and capture a bit of the sense of awe I felt as a child. I don't intend for this video to be educational, but rather just to share appreciation for an artists work who I find absolutely amazing. I hope you enjoy.

My father had two Escher drawings on the wall when I was a kid. I would stare at them for long periods, totally captivated. It also heavily influenced how I developed as an artist. Wonderful work Jono! Thanks for sharing, as always.
Eschers work just instantly draws you in with interest. The second you see an image, your brain begins to work on solving the contradictions and patterns. Which is what makes them so captivating and as you say, they are drawn with absolute clarity and precision.. Such amazing images...what an artist!...Thanks for sharing Jono! 👍

I remember replicating his works in art class in middle school. His mind-bending art is what inspired the dreamy surrealism in my art. I feel like I don't fit in with any of the galleries I've been in, because my combination of realism and surrealism. He is a huge inspiration and I'm glad I stick out like a sore thumb. Especially using my "peasant medium" graphite pencil. The subtle rebellion of not fitting in is energizing. It used to unnerve me that I didn't have a niche, but now I see it sets me apart.

I saw Escher’s work as a child too. I could look at it for a long time. So much detail. I loved the feeling it gave me like I had entered a different world.

My daughter's boyfriend painted two birds in a bird bath. One cardinal and the other a blue jay. The cardinal had a paintbrush in its claw while relaxing and threatening to paint out the blue jay if his peace was disturbed. Simply Amazing. Beyond Art!

My favorite artist. He’s inspired my art also. Being a sculpture you can definitely see his influence in my pieces. Younger I didn’t see it as much But being much older now and looking back it’s so noticeable it funny!

One of the greatest and most brilliant artists/craftsmen who ever lived. It has always been a mystery to me that when the many great Dutch artists and their huge influence on Western art are the topic of conversation (as in the BBC series The High Art of The Low Countries) they always name Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Vermeer, Rietveld, Mondrian, etc. etc. But they ALWAYS ignore the great Dutch artist Escher!!! Why is this?

I think Escher would have had a grand time talking shop with you. I think he would have loved your materials and techniques and would have been thinking how he could use what he'd learned in his own work. The two of you almost do the opposite work, lithographs and mezzotints, removing the substrate to create an image while you build a scene with graphite. I think you'd both have had a good time!

Escher was able to do a new way to draw, jumping from reality creating another one, maybe trying to find the true world. By that He said did not belong anywhere... I always felt, looking his work.. he was really looking for a consistent and heal Heaven.. getting rid from Pain and Uglyness

awesome - I know a very interessting escher pattern for knitting - looks like a lot 3D-cube´s ... the reptile pattern I also know - because I´ve seen pictures from someone that hat made a way in his garden with this pattern of reptile concrete parts poured.
