    I have in my recommendations so many fitness videos that I'm starting to forget how female body looks in reality. Today I visited sauna and I needed it, it was like detox from CZcams and instagram. Seeing so many imperfections was beautiful. I love positivity of fitness girls, but I'm starting to realize that bodies they have, have very few girls. And it's ok 😁 Now I feel better knowing that I will be exercising to feel better, not aiming to ideal look.

    • @MissFitAndNerdy
      @MissFitAndNerdy  Před 4 lety +92

      Honestly most fitness girls have normal bodies too. It all comes down to angles, posing, and lighting. My body certainly isn’t anywhere near “perfect.” It’s very, very average. I’ve just learned over time to twist the right way, angle the camera in the right way, and wait for the right lighting. Just keep that in mind if any fitness influencers are making you feel bad about themselves. They don’t look as good IRL usually lol

    I love your initial message (distinction between relationship with self as a base before focusing on aesthetics...focus from the inside out)! I have historically had much resistance (pun intended lol) to society's and particularly the body-building world's hyperfocus on body image, strongly contributing to mass pressure on people (especially women) to look a certain way. I have recently been going through a shift with this and really want to help people through my industry (psychotherapy, hypnosis, eft tapping, etc.) to feel how they want to feel first, allowing the physical manifestations to then match this, therefore becoming easier.
    I also love that you tell people to get out of the restrictive mindset, to not be afraid of calories, and to enjoy their food!! As I have been in closer contact with the gym community, I have actually, without ever hearing it from a leader in this industry, been "protesting" and saying that there has to be an easier and better way, that there must be a way to eat what you want and enjoy it while enjoying carving your body to match your internal feelings that ideally come first. My point is, this message you give to so many viewers/listeners is amazing and powerful! So again, thank you! Personally, I so appreciate it!
    Aside from these points, thank you for sharing so many super helpful points!

    My problem is a year ago I started my journey and started weightlifting . I was “skinny fat “ so I was really petite (4’11” 90 pounds) but had no butt and a little belly so I went into a caloric surplus . I think I may have increased my calories too fast or maybe my training wasn’t intense enough but I ended up gaining A LOT OF fat especially around my love handles and stomach . I kept going with my bulk bc I wanted a dumptruck but now I want to tone up a little bit but I want to continue to build muscle . I tried going on a caloric deficit but my body is so sensitive to even the smallest change in diet . I managed to get down to my maintenance calories and now I’m hoping for the best

    I do have one question. By the rule that you mention - that one should train more frequently the muscle groups they want to grow - should one avoid doing abdominal exercises at high frequency? Does building abs actually make one's waist look bigger?

      @MissFitAndNerdy  Před 4 lety +3

      Thanks so much!!! If you want to build your abs and are training them for hypertrophy then I would recommend taking a day off in between. But no, building them won't make your waist look thicker unless you really, really work at it.

    New follower and LOVING all of your videos and tips. I used to work with a trainer one hour three times a week. He wanted me to cut my calories to 1000 a day and burn 500 a day doing cardio for 6 weeks. 😳 He was great but I never cut my calories that low. I actually got a concussion during one of our sessions and the next few times I tried to get back into the gym I actually made myself sick. By the time I was ready to get back into working out he had actually lost his space and I kind of gave up after that. I’ve been wanting to get back into the gym and build muscle (from a pretty sedentary lifestyle), but I do have about 15-20 lbs of fat to lose. Would you recommend cutting calories when beginning weight lifting, eating my maintenance calories and adding weight lifting, or eating in a surplus and weight lifting?

    • @MissFitAndNerdy
      @MissFitAndNerdy  Před 4 lety +11

      Holy moly!!! That is insane! That trainer has probably caused so much damage to people. I'm so sorry you went through that. But I definitely recommend building muscle first! Go on a mini-bulk (or reverse diet if your metabolism is slow) and build a solid muscle base. This will help you burn more calories and keep your metabolism up when you cut.

      Sorry whats -100?
      As far as building curves with ballet, you're gonna have two opposing goals and need to decide which is more important. If ballet performance is top priority, having more mass will decrease performance. But if your aesthetic goals are more important, then you just need to lift more and prioritize that over ballet training

      Start with body weight THEN build your weights bit by bit (even if you start at 2.5 lbs per hand, for example)--the way that I was able to build past 50 lbs or so with weight-lifting is I do almost the same (if not, the exact) routine over the course of a couple weeks with ie. 5 lbs per hand until it starts to feel too easy and not challenging anymore (during this time, I also increase my reps), then move on to a slightly bigger weight (I add 2.5-5 lbs per hand). Every time you switch to heavier weights, it should feel more difficult/challenging again, but doable. With consistency and persistence, you will eventually feel that it gets easier to do. At one point, I was able to somewhat exponentially add weight + switch up my routine to introduce and nail new types of movement. Ultimately, listen to your body and know when too much is too much (one example would be when you can't even maintain decent form doing one rep of a movement--if you can do three or so before failure, try to keep going until you can't).

      Hey, girl! I can tell you what my experience with this was - when I was overweight, I used to eat around 2500-3500 calories per day (and not doing any workouts). Being in surplus means that you eat only about 200 calories per day more than you burn. If a woman does only some light workout, she burns around 2000 calories per day. In surplus she should consume around 2200 calories per day. So yes, you should be in surplus, but before changing your diet check online how much calories you burn per day, then add 150-200 and stick to that number. Well, at least that was my experience, but I am not a professional! I lost about 44 pounds in course of 4 years. Not a quick fix, but works in long term. :)

      Yes! For a while. To build muscle, you need progressive overload. Progressive overload means gradually increasing volume over time. Part of volume is how much weight you use. You are limited with the weight of resistance bands. They will work for a while but as soon as your body adapts, your muscle growth will plateau

      I wasn't pregnant, but I just got really fat, damn near morbidly obese. I can build muscle on a deficit. I recommend going back to maintenance calories for a week or two every once in a while. I don't do this on a schedule. I do it around my life schedule. Like I did it from Purim to just after Passover, which are Jewish holidays, it'd be like eating maintenance from Halloween to early January. I eased back to maintenance and then eased off of it. Then I've been fluctuating my deficit and I started to feel hungry all the time, so just last week I actually decided to eat at maintenance for at least a week, but one day I was too tired to eat more so I left it at 1300 ish and just went to bed at like 7pm. I'm also going to have a deficit today because it's 10pm and I'm full with only 1300ish calories. I tend not to eat much on Saturdays because I don't do anything. Anyway, I really like this channel, but her advice is often geared for thin women who want to lose max 20 pounds really like 5 pounds. Check out Luke Narwhal, Beatrice Caruso, Nicole Collet and Obesetobeast because they are more geared towards people who have more than some vanity pounds to lose. I hope this helps.

      The lack of videos is honestly probably just due to the fact that the process of losing muscle is just a lot less complicated: stop using it. It takes quite a while to lose muscle but if you eat in a deficit, do some cardio (rowing would be good if you’re trying to lose lower body mass), and stop training the muscle, you’ll lose the muscle.
      But oftentimes, it’s actually excess fat on top of the muscle that makes people think they are “too big” in certain areas. I have no idea if that applies to you but in most cases people just need to lose a little fat and then they’re happy with their physique
