I think excal mag volt and loki might get protoframes since DE said the update isnt going to be single player and it would be wacky to have 2 of the same protoframes running around, so it would make sense to have 4 of them at least.
@khaozcat I think maximum: The Starter Frames will all get "Proto" Characters. They're the most deserving since they are all the oldest. We dont need 57+ Proto frames.

A lot of people seem to have missed rebs saying that protoframes will have fashionframe. We might be able to use them in the main game as well. Unless it's like duviri. In the sense that it's just them playable in this extra 1999 mode.

I gotta be honest, as someone who went up and asked a question at the panel, the whole time I had to stop myself from thinking that there were probably tens of thousands of people watching me do it. Kudos to the dev team for being so kind to all of us camera shy people and giving solid and quality answers to our q's.

@@Vaz_G I was the guy that asked if Reb was happy with the current movement in Warframe (and also how Soulframe's movement compared). I was curious if we would see another evolution of the movement system in the future. If I had more time I would've mentioned the Bullet Jump -> Dodge Roll -> Aim Glide combo being hell on my pinky finger but, ehh, panel time limits.

@@beegyoshi1685 listen, default mag and her prime skin have the proportions of Gumby, she needs a skin with more love to the different departments. Her deluxe skin is good, but I don't know if you can toggle the cloth on the front, and I see a lot of people have asked for it to be a toggle over the years.
it's worth noting that proto doesn't just mean original or prototype, it also means rudimentary or primitive, and that's precisely what they are. rudimentary, primitive, pseudo, quasi, protoesque.
I mean the real warframes are people. So those "proto" seems to be better than the real warframe, since they seem to still be ... human and not just crazy machines that run amok.

Protea Prime has such a great future behind her
"Proto" does not mean "first" it's short for "prototype" which means early rendition or early concept. Meaning the first Warframes are based off of the Protoframes. So when they made the Warframes they took Arthur and Aoi as inspiration for them most likely.
I am guessing it's either getting retconned, or they are implying that it's a Time-Loop where Warframes are based off Protoframes, which are based off Warframes.

Albrecht says in his notes that he took Ballas' design and designed the protoframes based on that. Rebb even said during the stream that Arthur is not Excalibur (as in the warframe in the now), so I don't think it's a paradox/retcon.
Albrecht simply took a future design to the past.

About the Q&A panel: we got confirmation we're getting infested lich info somewhere between now and during tennocon, and we got confirmation protoframes will have some fashion options.

another update for 1999 for those interested, there was another character's name revealed on the warframe website through some Orokin alphabet text, Quincy. Quincy left a note to Arthur about how hes always parking his bike in his spot, so basically, Quincy is in 1999 and he's probably Volt. Here's the full translation of the text:

I think its supposed to be protowarframes in the sense that they are not fully transformed into warframes. Like pre-conplete
I feel like the idea of calling them Proto- is that they seem to be some type of hybrid of the Warframes and Humans//Orokin(???) and all the same even with time travel if they were to become the first Mag and Excal wouldn't it still be technically accurate to call them the first due to the time travel? Although I do believe that this is just something that maybe intended to connect Dark Sector's lore into Warframe. Darksector happend after the cold war (1991) so at this time the Technocytes would be around. I don't 100% remember but wasn't there some connection to the Technocytes and the Infested? What if these two are just like Hayden and infected and developing abilities and Albrecht is just helping them control and develop the abilities with the knowledge that he has from the future. which does lead to the idea that Ballus found all this information that Albrecht used to help Arthur and Aoi which ultimately led to the development of the warframes WHICH leads to Albrecht being able to go back in time and BAM TIME TRAVEL BS!!!!! because one has to happen for the other and it makes the needed loop for all events to exist and happen thus why we have the paradoxical shifts that are happening in the game where the Drifter and the Operator can exist simultaneously despite their existences should be paralleled.
FYI JTLYK: I have been in and out of the lore for about 2 or 3 years at this point and my memory on some parts of it is a little sketchy and I do remember there being many conversations and questions on devstreams about the lore connections between DarkSector and Warframe and it was back and fourth of the concept connections and actual story.
From what i can tell lore-wise, Warframe 1999 seems to take place INSIDE a computer. So it may mess around with concepts like simulation theory, with the deep topics warframe likes to touch on i think this is what they're going for...
Maybe it would be a good idea to put yureli in the rotation for standard circuit instead of the awful waverace based quests to get her.
The Quests is terrible, the story of it is terrible. But acquiring her is so easy due to the quest she might as well be a starter/freebie frame.
The Circuit would be worse IMPO....

That's as disappointing as getting Caliban from The Circuit...

I think they are being called Protoframes because they are Albrecht's attempt/version of a Warframe.
They are basically his "Prototypes".
Actual Warframes are tireless Infested Golems that get piloted via mind control.
I respectfully think protoframe is a fair title given that they are conceptually an entirely different direction that Ballas' mess.

Don't worry Brozime. If experience with randos is any indication, there's a lot of people out there who don't realise hold casting her 1 makes Protea (And by extension any member of the squad with shields) functionally immortal.

Margulis Warframe????
After sleeping on it and giving it a bit more thought, I've come to realize the above makes zero sense without DE having to do some serious heavy lifting in the story department to explain the following:
How the jade light was a thing that people were threatened with by the Orokin for a long time before Margulis came along when it would have to have because she can't have died to / been converted by something that didn't exist prior to her existing.
How it is that a warframe could have inherited the pre-existing power of the jade light. Something that makes very little sense when simply supposed the jade light was always a warframe with this power.
Why being exposed to the jade light would convert Margulis into a warframe with the powers of the jade light rather than just kill her which is what the intent clearly was.
No, its very unlikely that Jade, the warframe, was ever Margulis.
Its far more likely that Jade was just a warframe candidate that manifested the famed powers of the jade light when exposed to the helminth and Margulis met her end by Jade's hand.

Anywho, I am curious with Protea Prime will come and it kind of tells me I need to step up my Gauss farming since I did take a small break from the game and need to get on top of that.
The original starters were Excalibur, Loki and Volt. Mag stole Volt's place, Volt took it back from Loki.
@@Joe90h Ah. Apoligies for getting them mixed up. So then it is possible then that Loki could take Volt's spot then.
Mind you it does seem like a safe bet that we'll see a "Human Volt" over "Human Loki" (although one could argue the chance of there being a human with cloaking capabilities seems just as likely as someone wearing an electrical suit).

I'm thinking that Arthur and Aoi are the best that Albrecht could create with a 20th century techbase, and without access to a true Operator or any Infested. He essentially built frame-like technology onto a couple of soldiers/criminals that he found when he went back in time to help him fight the Man In The Wall. I don't believe that either of them are progenitors to true warframes. The time gap between 1999 and the Orokin is thousands of years, and it's unlikely that Arthur, Aoi, or even their bodies would last that long to be reverse engineered in the future.
Are you aware of the interaction of Xoris and Vex armor?
I have to admit, I think Protea Prime looks better than her Deluxe, and I'm really excited to see it in game!

Proto warframes but theyre the most advanced, because aoi and arthur are intact people not puppets. Other than umbra the process basically brain blanks the subject afaik

I think the main reason new prime weapons feel disappointing (other than bad numbers) is that the base weapons just don't function very well. How would you feel if a prime release also included a new incarnon form for the weapons?
some had alt fires that the original didnt with just way better stats, granted his main complaint about the melee weapon is melee sucking atm even if he didnt say it lol, it not that they dont do damage they just arnt fun, and if they were fun to use most of the weaker ones would just be better because of how they worked, but because they all got shafted....

Of course, Arthur and Aoi could also be a paradox where, because Albrech brought future tech to the past and augmented them, their remains, or if they actually are still alive when the Orokin come to power, themselves are studied and reverse engineered by the Orokin to create the first proper Excal and Mag, which leads into the continuous cycle of warframes only existing because Albrech created the first protoframes using warframe parts, which causes the Orokin to create warframe proper ad infinitum. I'm SO fricken hyped for 1999, and like you said Brozime, DE is just cooking this year it seems.
How can you see little to no potential for weapons with no available stats? Especially with primes getting cool gimmicks on weapons these days. Really preparing for the next warframe update, "Jaded shadows"

Almost positive his point there was most weapons besides incarnons and kuva/tenet weapons aren’t really worth too much consideration. If you enjoy them, cool, but there’s no shot they’ll be high tier.
@MattR8605 there's a disconnect here. You're saying "not high tier", he's saying "no potential". Seems super jaded to say that a weapon doesn't have potential when something like this definitely has the potential to get a newer player into steel path
But we haven't seen the stats, so how are we supposed to know?
Unless Okina is the first Primed melee that launches with a cool Incarnon-esque gimmick that makes it kick out AoE stuff, or force procs electricity because Melee Influence is THE meta now, Okina is just going to be some pointy daggers that look nice in a game where we have Torid murdering everything in the tri-state area.
@Joe90h I'm not suggesting they are going to be war crime weapons, or even that they need to be, I'm saying that saying a weapon has no potential to be usable with all the tools we have now, especially prior to seeing stats, is incredibly myopic.
The Okina could get a minor buff to crit chance and damage on the base form and that would make it a serviceable weapon. Not game breaking, but not "without potential"

well it is a cyberpunk voice actor, and they made the 2 protoframes look like the actors as its easyer that way, keep in mind the proto frames are wearing suits, they arnt true frames as far as we know unless that changes, thats how they were first presented, and shouldnt have the same proportions as the original frames, and as he said and i had to double check, it is the same actor that did hanako from cyberpunk

I like Warframes new direction of, what if we have Excalibur and Mag thick thighs? You know, for saving lives and stuff, but also to terrorise people, bi people especially. Whilst I don't expect to get a human equivalent for every Warframe, I do hope we get a few more (and hunting Eidolons on a motorbike?!?).

So clearly a Japanese influence. Is this CyberFrame 2099? And, given the date in the trailer are the proto-infested actually the Y2K bug(s)?
