VW Golf MK7 (5G): cup holder ambient light coding & wiring

- How to retrofit DIY cup holder #ambient lights & front cubby #LED illumination, enable it with OBDeleven or VCDS in #VW Golf MK7, including coming/leaving home illumination and slider controls from Volkswagen Discover infotainment system screen. This is not just a piggyback connection to footwell lights or dashboard backlight. This was wired as independent BCM (body control module) circuit, coded with it's own controls, brightness, and logic.
ℹ️ This tutorial is based on my own research and documentation that I found related to Audi A3 8V with interior lighting package. Same procedure should work for all other MQB platform vehicles, including Seat Leon MK3 (5F), Skoda Octavia 3 (5E). This tutorial might not be 100% accurate and may be updated in future. Some coding and adaptation changes might differ because of the production year, software versions, or vehicle trim version. Required coding procedure might be adjusted for facelift vehicles.

🔌 Wiring connection
Ground to any chassis ground point.
Positive to empty and active pin in BCM. In my case that's plug C, pin 9.

Good video, very clear. I did the same with facelift BCM. Coding works the same, but no long coding necessary. Adaptations is enough. Its how I control my self installed ambient lighting on the dash and reardoors(Lichtfunction a** Ambienlicht 3, for control door ambient lights). Gives a very nice oem-like Feeling. Also did a lot of adjustments to how the domelights work when lock/unlock and open/close the doors, so Ambient lights are more visible when unlocking car in the dark.
That's cool! Does the rear lights and dash ambient light stay on if you change drive mode to sport? As far as I know ambient3 is active with normal/eco/comfort and ambient4 is active with sport/race/dynamic. This way you can create different scene in sporty settings.
@mr-fix Actually, I don't know, I don't have DSG. But maybe add lichtfunction B or C then with ambient 4? For the dash and also "Ashtray" I set on ambient 2 and the reardoors to ambient 3.

As far as I know, you would have to install BCM from Passat or Arteon, in HIGH trim and start from there.
Anyone knows what is the maximul power consumption on that pin of BCM ?

Not sure if Octavia is equipped with rear door modules. MK7 is not.

i would think they is a wire in door loom to connect too but the question is which one id it . if they is no door module i dont fancy running cable to bcm its not worth it

Thanks for the tutorial. How did you mount the led strip on the cup holders? Double sided tape that it already has? How did you feed the cable in the cup holder? Drilled a hole? How much led strip was required for cupholders and wireless charging area? Thank you.
Yes, double sided tape, 3mm drill, bought 2 meters long strip to add it in couple more places (front cubby, glove box, door pockets, trunk under-floor storage, sun shades holder) and still have some to spare.

Hej, masz pomysł jak rozdzielić sterowanie jasnością ambiente od podświetlenia nóg, po zmianie na mib2? Na mib1 było w sekcji oświetlenia wnętrza, w mib2 jest osobna zakładka ambiente i przycisk wszystko, który reguluje obie te rzeczy naraz. Co prawda Leon 3 ale komponenty te same.
Moduł 09, adaptacja, "Interior light, light configuration".
Tam wyłącz dwie rzeczy: "Ambientemenue mit globalem aus" oraz "Ambientemenue mit alle Zonen".
Jak to zrobisz, to osobne menu oświetlenia wnętrza powinno zniknąć, a suwaki powinny wrócić do menu świateł.

Drive Modes are protected with FEC/SWaP code. It's not that easy to make it work.

That's what the slider is for. And full brightness on the slider is 10% of the absolute.

pack contains device and license.
plan is just the license for someone that already has the device.

Most likely but can't say for sure.
Also, Passat B8 had an factory option of illuminated cup holders.

If the BCM supports RGB controls, yes. I'm not sure if Golf came with such BCM and one from Passat is needed.
Do you use the 12v or 3,7v Stripe?
