Welcome to our new content. As the Weapon Detective, we are investigating modern weapon systems of the Second Cold War. The Weapon Legends is about the older weapon systems. We tell their epic stories, which made them a legend. The Weapon Legends investigates these stories, reads between the lines, analyzes, and tells the untold. You can find technical information, historical backgrounds, what happened during the development processes, combat experience and political projection. Let the wisdom of history show us what the future will be. Let’s investigate the veteran weapons of the past together.

Great video as always! Can't wait for the next Z8 Chinese super frelon copies
Frelon/Super Frelon is a beautiful heavy helicopter, much more beautiful than the Mil Mi-8
But on par with the Mi-26, which it more closely resembles.
@@zacklewis342 It's between Mi-8 & Mi-6 in my opinion. Which is fantastic still
It was a wonderful video about French designed heavy Helicopter SA 321 ferlon ...video clearly explained all characteristics of that remarkable helicopter. Video also labeled to historical background of that flying heavy weights...thank you 🙏 ( weapon detective 🕵️♂️) channel for sharing.
Good video. Thanks. But, I think it was the rival of CH-53 rather than SH-3.
CH-53 is heavier and can't swim
Nah it's definitely meant more to compete with the Sea King rather than CH-53, the Super Frelon has more similarities with Sea King in terms of capabilities (large naval helicopters with amphibious capability) than with the CH-53.
Can you do an episode on the m47 dragon? Never seen a video on it :)
It was strange, at least in my opinion, to call such a huge helicopter a Wasp
IDAF used 321F, I've seen the airframe long time a go but now I don't have idea where's the airframe
The Libyan Super Frelon in Malta were not leased but the Libyan military was based here
Thanks for info
With 3 SA3160 alouettes
DO THE SPEAR3 MISSILE BY MBDA!!
Given the size of the hornet I have a hard time imagining the blade of grass.😏
i cant wrap my head around the NH 90 models and why they all seem to be lemons.. How the F can airbus make a product that fails so hard in this day?
Actually, it’s a joint venture of Airbus, Leonardo and Fokker. But that does not explain the sometimes very disappointing performance results of the NH90 family…
NH 90 sucks that's why Australian Navy and Indian Navy purchased MH 60R Seahawk
However, in France the NH-90, although requiring delicate maintenance, is more than 75% operational. It may not just be the helicopter that has a problem, it may be the qualification of the mechanics that is a problem.
No it’s definitely the helicopter, Sweden relies on the Blackhawk now as the NH90 is so expensive to run, and they aren’t the only ones.
She is not a looker.
Interesting information. I was not aware of that 👍
the Aérospatiale SA-321 Super Frelon multi mission helo is just too big for a fast & flexible ship-borne maritime multi mission helo . . . the SA-321 is a direct competitor to the ship-borne MH-53KU Sea Stallion II maritime multi mission utility helicopter . . . both airframes have proven their worth & still continues to do so for more than quarter of a century . . . the prototype fuselage design should have been carried over to the SA321 final configuration prior to pre-production . . . instead of the modified boat type fuselage . . .
Check Fact - in Sinai - Sharm El Sheikh - was Established by Israel AFTER capturing Sinai after 1967
The military grade concrete airstrip at Sharem is still in use today by commercial airliners.
Good information, but the narrative is biased. The planes that the Israelis destroyed in Beirut airport were all civilian, but you only labeled the Iranian oil tankers as "civilian" ships. Those ships are the reason the war lasted eight years due to Iran's refusal of a ceasefire. The Iraqis had to have them sunk. The Iranians only accepted resolution 598 a full year after Iraq due to Iraqi dominance in the Gulf by sinking any ship that dealt with the Iranians. This was achieved by the efforts of the Iraqis in the Super Frelon, Mirage F1, MiG 23, and 25. It wasn't an easy job, but it was done. Also, the liberation of Kuwait was in 1991, not 1982, as you mentioned.
Thanks for your interest. We mentioned Iranian tankers as civilian ships because we divided civilian ships and naval vessels in our narration. And when we mentioned the planes in Beirut we used civilian plane footage. So, we did not need to use the term "civilian" specifically. Sorry for our mistake of referring to the year 1982 for Operation Daguet. Even though we double-check our text, we occasionally fail to notice such things.
Due to its rotor design, it was an American achievement, not a French one. This was why many countries preferred the original American helicopter, the Sea King.
It's like saying that it's the propeller that makes the plane. What you are saying makes no sense.
@@CROM-on1bz I'm just saying, that designing a fuselage was not a success in the 1960s. No stealth and ancient aerodynamics knowledge. The rotor and gearbox were the real deal at that time. Obviously, they were not French.
@@CROM-on1bz I can see both of your points and I think both of you are right. Ingenuity, evolution, enhancement, and perfecting all tie into and feed new revolutionary ideas.
Different class. Sea King is akin to the newer Eurocopter Puma. Super Frelon is bigger.
Countries "preferred" the Sea King because, as they were developing their own version, and here I'm talking about France (Super Frelon) and Italy (Agusta A101) in particular, Sikorskyi made sure to sell them the Sea King's license, so a double win for Sikorskiy because it both eliminated the potential competition and made a ton of money too
Sikorskiy also lobbied the US gov to refuse the US-101 (us version of AW-101) when the US DOD chose it in 2005
(Just to make it clear, A101 and AW101 are two different helis from completely different periods)
