    Everyone talked about this episode because of the priest, but it was that beautiful moment with Boo when she offers to take Fleabag's love for her mother that really made this episode for me.
    Olivia Coleman, aka the Godmother, asked Phoebe Waller-Bridge to write a role for her where she could play a real bitch. Waller-Bridge expanded the role of the Godmother from her stage show from an essentially silent side character specifically for her. She certainly succeeded. (I am a huge fan of Coleman!)

      Ya Coleman is amazing in everything I've seen her in ESPECIALLY Broadchurch), I just didn't know she had 'bitch' in her, but she definitely showed us her ranger with the Godmother! lol

    I find it so poetic that the priest can look at us, it shows how he gets into Fleabag's mind, how he really listens to her and understands her more than anyone else. And it's logical that she freaks out and wants to escape from it at first, she is not used to that kind of intimacy and emotional connection. It's similar when she runs away from us, like in the first season she didn't want us to know what really happened with Boo. I call that going further with breaking the fourth wall, giving one more twist. It never ceases to amaze me how Phobe was able to overcome what she did with the first season by adding a much deeper meaning to it ... Is it obvious how much I admire and love her? Haha

    • @DFQreacts
      @DFQreacts  Před 2 lety +3

      maybe just a lot? lol its so original how it was executed in the show, too. the 4th wall being a way to vent, almost like we're her conscious, constantly scrutinizing her, and she always checks in on us. Imagine someone breaking into your own mind out of the blue, it would definitely be startling at the very least! lol

    Hi! Quaker here! *waves* So. The idea of the silent meeting is that God (however you want to picture him/her/them) is talking to us all the time, and if you just sit down and shut the hell up for a while you can hear what they're saying. The thing is, if you DO end up hearing something, it might be something that feels so big and important that you can't not share it, which is the "moved by the spirit to speak" bit. There's often a bit of "Am I moved? Should I?" internal monologuing going on, but often when you need to speak, you absolutely KNOW it, and it's scary as hell. Hopefully, it's not about your November travel plans.

      @@DFQreacts The faith started in England, but there are quite a few Quaker meetings in the US, which is where I first encountered it. (Fun fact: Richard Nixon was a Quaker, although he totally failed at the whole pacifism thing.) I don't know if there are any perpetually open "drop-in" meetings in the States, like the one in the episode; usually it's an hour get-together, generally on Sunday mornings like your average Christian service, in either a house owned by the local meeting, somebody's living room, or space rented from the nearest Unitarians. These meetings come in two flavors: "programmed," which is your basic Protestant service with a big chunk of silence in the middle, and "unprogrammed," which is a full hour of siddown and shaddup.

    Hmm... I didn't think the compliments to FleaBag at her mother's funeral shone her to be the "Golden Child" but rather just another 'fault' (through no fault of her own) that she isn't able to do 'anything right' like 'look awful or bereaved'.
    It's just points out how "different" she is.... or how different she is from her family & friends. I don't think anyone who gave her compliments (except her father- which is a scene I really enjoyed) were actually complimenting her... I think they were all thinking, 'Geez. Her mother's dead, and she went and got a haircut and facial....' (or something along those lines.... but I could be wrong on how I see/ saw it.)

      I definitely see where you're coming from, and you could be absolutely right, I just noticed, and again, perhaps it was just me, but they all treated her differently in those flashbacks. Not as rude or pointed jabs, even the Godmother was slightly nicer to her. To me, it feels like after everything that went down with Boo, they began to (rightfully) blame her and because of that she began a slow descent into being 'that sister'? idk, I could've read it all wrong as well.

    I was rooting for Fleabag to get with the priest, but the wait it (almost) happened in this episode makes me really really unconfortable to the point it's difficult for me to watch, because she was being very vulnerable at that moment and actually managing to open up and ask for help, both of which she desperately needed. But, at the same time, the priest is probably an alcoholic and was drunk at that moment, so we can't really blame him for it? it just goes to show how both of them are so fucked up.

    • @DFQreacts
      @DFQreacts  Před 2 lety +2

      They are! They are both equally fucked up and that means they are PERFECT for each other! I don't think we've seen Fleabag as vulnerable as she was here. Not even when she was talking to the banker, she laid (almost) everything on front street, and it all came crashing down...literally lol

    • @Exoixx
      @Exoixx Před 2 lety +7

      People might disagree but I always interpreted it as the priest relating to what Fleabag was saying, that’s why (or at least part of why) he went into the priesthood but here he is, still drinking because he’s still scared and I think they were both vulnerable in this moment-which is why he reacted the way he did when the picture fell.

    • @DFQreacts
      @DFQreacts  Před 2 lety +1

    • @Exoixx
      @Exoixx Před 2 lety +3

      @@DFQreacts You know what? I think it kinda goes deeper than that. Be it sex or drink the problem is the same, he just hasn’t faced it. The priest talks about being lonely and having no friends...just like Fleabag. They’re both scared of being vulnerable or emotionally intimate with people. That scene in this episode where he’s asking her all these questions and she’s trying to deflect, he does the same thing. That’s why he sees what she’s doing: using us to deflect when something is difficult or challenging. She performs for us and thus separates herself from the situation. And becoming a priest? Fast track to being in a position where others are vulnerable with you but you don’t have to be. You give the advice. Even if he truly wants to be a priest. He’s still giving into that self-preservation. Given the way it all works out, I think they both needed to face the same fear in order to move forward on their own paths. Which is heartbreaking but also beautiful.

    Please, please, please stop calling him Father Moriarty. Much as Fleabag doesn't have a name, Andrew Scott is known to all and sundry as "the Hot Priest". It's followed him everywhere much more than Moriarty has. Other than that - great and very funny reaction.

      I've only ever seen him in Sherlock, so that's what he's known to me as, just like no matter what role Tennant/ Smith/ Capaldi is in, they will ALWAYS be The Doctor lol (watching The Suicide Squad was like watching Peter Capaldi's take on The Master lol) a bit off topic, but I'm afraid I do keep referring to him as Father Moriarty for the remainder of the series! lol I will admit, he is a hot priest though! haha
