I love how historians reference Da Vinci man design to talk about how an athlete is a freak of nature instead of just saying Da Vinci was wrong for the idea
At the time, it probably was quite accurate especially when you fact in the fact that diets were much worse and health in general was a lot worse. Nowadays I would still say it's a lot closer to being true than studies on athletes will show. We did a case study on it in high school (please bare in mind we only did the major measurements, e.g. wingspan, shoulder width, hand span and length of legs = half total height) and something like 55% of the total measurements matched Da Vinci's Vitruvian Man's proportions (or were within 2cms). Something like 20% of the total measurements recorded were shorter and 25% were longer. Strangely enough, the vast majority of the measurements that registered as being longer than Da Vinci's Vitruvian Man's were from students that were extremely active and/or played multiple sports. Obviously the sample size compared to the total human population is small but for it to only differ by that little I think gives his theory a lot more credibility than I think a lot of people give it.
