    I remember watching this clearly in 1995, i was in hospital in Germany and watched the whole conpetition, what an athlete. I dont anyone realises how technical this event is, this was just peak prime perfect performance. Incredible speed, strength and technique in combination, a once in a lifetime moment. And what a gentlemen. salute

    All of us who were competitive athletes can relate to that feeling at the time you were in the best shape of your life and knew you were and then looking back decades later in disbelief at what you did when you were younger. But to be the best ever in the world like he was and to hear him describe his disbelief that he did it was very interesting. He is such a thoughtful athlete. You will find that most people who set world records in athletics are also very intelligent about their sport and their event. I've always admired Edwards and he was one of my all time favourites because he was a 5'10" 160 lb. jumper and I was almost exactly the same size as he was and was also doing LJ/TJ. It was so awesome to think that you didn't have to be 6'2" to be successful at the TJ.

    I love the triple jump, for me it’s the most technical and aesthetically pleasing event to view. Jonathan Edwards was made for the triple trump. Perfect physique, slender, speedy, wirey. Hope young Hibbert can test the WR, gonna require a perfect storm to beat it. I am a huge fan of JE 🙌🏽💫

  • @RichardIILionheart
    @RichardIILionheart Před 29 dny

    Edwards was not physically imposing, but he was fast on the runway and so very fluid in his jumping technique, with each phase transitioning into the next such that his triple jump looked more like one jump in three parts rather than three consecutive but only loosely connected jumps. Rarely did he sit back into the sand, perhaps because translated more of his horizontal speed into horizontal distance rather than vertical height.

      There are several really talented triple jumpers competing today, and they have a chance at >18.29, but if I were betting on it, I would say Edwards will still be WR holder when the calendar turns to 2026.
