Great idea! These engines actually did race back in 1989, though at the time 844 was known as 8444
The SP 4449 had to stop, had to stop.
It just means that the model of UP 844 is extremely advanced. At over 140mph, it simulates the damage that is done to the running gear and pistons when the locomotive is operated beyond its design limits, until eventually the packing glands in the cylinders blow out and the loco loses power. Daylight doesn't simulate that and just keeps on going regardless.

How about a rematch but this time with each locomotive pulling an identical consist of 12 or 15 of the UP lightweight passenger cars. That would prevent 844 from exceeding 140mph and allow her to finish the race without damaging the cylinders.

844 and 4449 actually raced in real life, in the 90's (I think), when 844 was numbered 8444, it raced 4449 with a passenger train

I'm surprised 844 reached such a high psi to end the scenario! The real UP 844 goes over 100mph in real life many times!
The psi was still at around the normal 300psi. The problem was that it exceeded 140mph, well above the design safety limit of 120mph. The excessive speed stressed the rods, putting them out of alignment and caused the cylinder packing glands to burst.
Can next race please be a j94 (the tank engine you called ugly) and a 14xx

If they run as AI, light engine, 844 will always exceed 140mph and blow its cylinders. Oliver could instead put 12 of the "lightweight" passenger cars behind each locomotive, which would fix the problem (and look even better!).

if excess steam blew out in this race and the race stopped, THEN WHY DIDNT THE RACE WITH MALLARD STOP WHEN THE 844 WAS BLOWING OUT MUCH MORE EXCESS STEAM, AND 844 WAS BUILT FOR PASSENGER SERVICE

@@NeighborSenpai I'm not sure, I don't keep track of it, all I know is that it was the only union Pacific steamer NOT retired. And here is another thing, the Challenger was retired, but was restored and is back in service, AND they just started restoring one of the two Big Boys still in existence into operating condition and will be put back in service.
The 844 is based in Cheyenne, Wyoming (along with Challenger 3895 and Big Boy 4014).

oh that's interesting, i'm assuming they just put the 844 in heritage\excursions because they have no will of using steam engines for duty but at least they actually care about steam locomotives, if more railroad companies in the US could be like Union Pacific and actually care about heritage. And yes its not just cool its AMAZING that they restore the Big Boy, one of the biggest locomotives ever built (idk if they ever built anything bigger than the big boy)

The max speed of Daylight is 110 mph where the UP 844 is 120 mph. Sorry even though Daylight didn’t break it still lost this one in the math.

Bonnie America never made any tank engines but i might be wrong about the American Dock Tank that replaced The E2 Tank engines However The American dock Tank is not on train simulator.
