Heya, nice carbooty again and a nice MB at the end got to love this vlog
You are right that the plastic enclosure is for a "juke box" of CDs ... good idea but useless as they held 6 disks and you always had a stack of 20! :-)
Timestamp 1:37 Open it !!! Open it !!! Open it !!! Open it !!! Open it !!! Open it !!! Open it !!! Open it !!! Open it !!!
The last of the V8s
Timestamp 1:39 MSI board I bet MSI board with that bracket for the diag LED's
I actually decided to trash such kind of P4 motherboards even it's 3.4 MHz.
the output on the gpu was svideo no composite
the output on the gpu was kaput
You struck gold with that Asus motherboard! I am a little perplexed, however. Who is paying that kind of money for such boards, and why? What are they doing with them?
To me these boards are too recent to have sentimental or collectible value. The real "vintage" or "retro" machines are the 8- and 16-bit home computers of the late 1970s to '90s like the Apple II, C64 and Atari ST. These are the computers of my childhood. Maybe I'm too old for this game!
Those were great tips on desoldering, Richard. Too many have the idea that the iso cleans and removes the rosin flux. Dissolving is not the same as removing! See you in the next one.
Well I guess if you want to build a PC that can run Windows 95, 98 or SE natively (including loading all the device drivers and running period original games) and you want the fastest PC posible that can do this, then this last generation of AGP motherboards are exactly what you want. And there are plenty of people who want to do just that, or want to speculate such items will increase in value considerably faster than inflation in coming years. These motherboards were made to support the owners at the time who had expensive graphics cards and wanted to upgrade their processor without buying a new GPU. This was a relavtiely niche market even at the time and there were not so many of these made and sold. Then factor in that many of these motherboards, like others of the era, ended up in the trash a few years later. So now we have the classic combination of shortage of supply vs the larger demand to, and interest in, building that sort of killer Windows 98 retro PC, which you can't do with later hardware as PCIe is not supported by those operating systems or games. And that low supply vs high demand formula always results in high prices. So no need to be perplexed really..
@@LearnElectronicsRepair So, it's about running legacy software that's incompatible with modern-day systems. Now I am understanding.
I went from ISA to PCI. I never had an AGP card, nor was I much of a gamer. I disliked MS-DOS and switched to Linux in 1997 (which I'm using to this day). Thanks for the great explanation!
Yes - Its about building a system to play old games on the fastest hardware that was available at the time those games were released . most people hadP4s in the day with lower end AGP cards ie 9600 pros or geforce 4s - to be able to run a fast AGP card on a core 2duo or a quad core was just a pipe dream for most of us - remember crysis and the intel logo at the beginning - "play with intel core 2extreme inside" who could afford that so we had to play at 20fps low settings - i had a AMD k6500 with a 9800pro - well now for $200 for the mobo and the fastest AGP card you can find for the best price you can benchmark and play the game and see what FPS the rich guys were getting in the day - and those boards which take core 2duos or quad cores with AGP slots are rare as most were already PCIE and they dont make AGP anymore - so thats a very nice find - im jealous - the best ive got is a core 2 E4600 gigabyte board with AGP i found for $30 - and a pentuim dual core 965 which has both PCIE and AGP i found for $10 - actually the the pentiuim dual core boards more common than than any core 2 duos- I payed $240 aud for my Asrock 4 core dual sata 2 board which im building a system that will have SLI voodoo2s for Win98 , a HD3870 for XP and a gtx570 for windows 10 - (because steam have stopped supporting windows 7) although only version 1511 Win10 has the drivers for the agp bridge chipset - when im done - as i want to use both the AGP 3870 and gtx 570 to play my steam games ie halflife 2 - the voodoos can be onthere own for win98 - eventually i should be able to install every game ive ever owned onto one PC soon - from unreal up to maybe farcry 4 on real genuine hardware
The people whose childhood was in the mid 2000s are now in their twenties and thirties and looking for the equipment they used to have or couldn't get at the time.
It seems like the value of a piece of tech depreciates to practically nothing at 10-15 years old and then prices start going back up when most of the original supply has been scrapped.
Great stuff as always.
You did mention last week you may design and build a speaker dummy load at some point. Would love to see a video on that.
Yeah I do need to do that
Look forward to that one 😊
that wasn't a matrox gpu at all
It wasn't but I do stll think it looked like one
Timestamp 25:04 .... Intel cpu .... 🤣🤣🤣
